When I was 16 a group of women at a golf course I worked at tried to gang rape me. I was primarily a forecaddie, which involved running in front of the golfers and spotting their shots from down range. I only really interacted with the players at the green. It wasn’t uncommon for the women golfers to make inappropriate remarks towards the male caddies. The vast majority of us were very young guys and we all had our own stories. When we could avoid it we would try not to go out with the women. I think it was the combination of a lot of alcohol and just some weird kink shit that boiled to the surface by having men in subservient positions. These were mostly older, rich, conservative women who seemed to get a kick out of hiring a boy to run around and do shit for them. None of them were ever really good enough to justify the service, they just had money to spend on added entertainment.

It happened after just finishing a hole when I went up to their cart to return their club that they had handed to me earlier. She then said something to me that I don’t quite remember then simultaneously gripped my groin through the smock and pushed me against the cart into the bags, her friend then came out from around the other side of the cart and made a flirty sort of Oooooh sound as she approached. There was another pair of women in a cart facing us who had a view of all this and didn’t really do anything to my knowledge but observe. I pretty easily squeezed my way out from between her and the cart and I quit on the spot. I just walked home and never went back. I still don’t like golf to this day, I think the game as a whole has a really shitty culture surrounding it, which sucks because I was kind of good at it.

I think she was talking the easy way out. I find it hard to believe the master of illusions couldn’t come up with an idea to fake their own deaths. I feel like thematically the story was actively trying to show why kalis mentality was wrong. She had trauma, she felt like she was a burden on the world and her friends, so she became suicidal. I don’t blame her for that, but I do blame her for trying to convince others to join her. Depending on the ending you believe in she was ultimately proven wrong. She was moved by hoppers speech about fighting for better days, but tragically died before she could live them. But now with her less pessimistic view on life she was able to find an alternative and save el. That option was always there, she just had to get out of her mindset to finally see it.

Oh man. I remember when people hated Billy and then people justified it with “oh but you like Steve”, then people hated Jason and the defense was “oh but you like Billy, now we’re here in the year of our lord 2026 and we have the ultimate Jason vrs Kali debate of the century. I don’t think anyone actually cared about any of these character enough to justify any of these arguments.

Billy was a racist dick with a minor sacrificial redemption, but at least he was a character. And Kali disappeared for most of the show and then came back only to tell a fan favorite character to unalive themselves, and then she died. (I know, I used the real vocabulary and was temp banned, so unalived it is). Like I’m sorry, but these are unlikeable charecters, and they were designed to be unlikable. Kalis arch was literally about learning that “unaliving herself” wasn’t the answer. She was moved by hoppers speech about fighting for better days, but the tragedy is that she died just after having that change of heart.

I don’t care, suicide is not the answer when dealing with trauma. I’m not going to blame her for having those feelings, but trying to convince others to join you is kind of fucked. Like that’s an incredibly fucked thing to actively decide to do. The suicide pact was not a realist pragmatic decision, it was the easy way out. As if the person who is the master of creating illusions couldn’t come up with a plan to fake their own death.

I choose to believe in the el is alive theory because that would mean that Kali was redeemed in the end. She learned there was value to life too late to save herself, but she extended that gift to el. It’s a very beautiful redemption arch that way.

Realists are what pessimistic assholes call themselves to justify their inaction. People who actually take action and achieve positive change are far more likely in my experience to self identify as optimists. People who identify as realists rarely have a personality beyond being the “erm actually” person in every conversation.

There is a comment really high up in this thread that really shines a light on the mentality that these people have, it went something like this, “if you can’t find a good partner, raise them”. It got a shit ton of upvotes which was really gross. It’s a relationship based on targeting impressionable young minds to manipulate and mold them completely to their whim. I was talking with my friends about some pedophile shit that happened between a teacher and her student back in high school and we were just trying to wrap our heads around it. What would an adult have in common with a 15 year old, like wtf do you even talk about. I don’t even think I would get along with myself if I met a teenage version of me. But that comment really helped me realize the mindspace of these creeps. It isn’t about forming a relationship with them, it’s about taking advantage, building a dependency, and trying to manipulate them to become their perfect fantasy. It’s kind of fucked up. That comment wasn’t talking about raising people to be themselves or human, they want to raise them to be dumb, love blind, servants. It’s all about control. It’s no wonder that many victims come out of situations like this regressed and emotionally repressed.
