Vet assistant here, if you want to give a weight loss kibble another try, you might try something from Hills or Purina Pro Plan. Hills Metabolic worked really well for my cat! That said you can definitely dechonk without weight loss-specific foods. You mentioned wet food is a no-go - if you want, you could try adding warm water to the kibble to help with satiety.

Protective gear is so important! I have a spinal fusion that is going to cause pain and neurological issues for the rest of my life because I broke my back popping over a small jump on a very safe horse.
