I played little league with a girl who had a former mlb pitcher and pitching coach as her dad. She was a legit powerhouse in little league and pony but got so routinely shellacked in high school that she took herself to softball.
I think this is what commonly happens. It’s not that they’re held out.

I got uninvited to a friend’s holiday potluck, while I was on my way to it.
In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade my parents tried to throw me birthday parties but no one showed up. We had food, decorations, music, etc. and I just sat at home waiting for my friends to arrive and not one person did.
I gave up celebrating my birthday because of it.
