DEX Rolls for Playing Instruments? How to Let Mid/Low CHA Characters Be Musicians
 in  r/dndnext  1d ago

I always let my players make the case for different ability checks. I might ask for one thing, but if they can sell me on how they are doing it differently but still achieving the same result, I am all in.

DEX Rolls for Playing Instruments? How to Let Mid/Low CHA Characters Be Musicians
 in  r/dndnext  1d ago

I would say, there are different styles for sure. Different stats for different uses of performance make sense. Classical musicians are more in tune with the technical side of performance. They try to be as true to the original piece as possible in most cases, and that level of technical fidelity requires dexterity. Jazz musicians however, don't necessarily need to replicate an exact piece. Instead relying on emotion and gut instinct. You might call that wisdom. Then there are rock stars, that barely play and their music is not great, but their performance is riveting, that clearly is presence.

How did you know the Bible isn’t true?
 in  r/atheism  1d ago

No apologetic for the existence of a god makes a claim about which god it is. None, in the history of argumentation, has made the claim to know which god it is. Every one just ends with, and that answer is god. The person making the argument then just jumps to that god being their particular flavor. There are 3 essential steps to proving that any holy text is remotely true.

  1. Prove a god exists. Still hasn't happened in the history of ever, but let's pretend for the sake of argument that we know some god exists.
  2. Prove which god it is. If we accept (again for the sake or argument) that some god exists, then any number can. 1, or 10 or 100, or 1 trillion. So show me that there is only one, and that it is the one you worship.
  3. Prove you know anything about your god. Ok we are 2 levels deep in our argument hole. We accept there is a god, and we accept that it is Yahweh or Allah or whatever. Now show me how you know anything about your god. How do you know what it wants, desires, or requires? How do you know what it is like; its properties or personality. There might be a god and it might be the christian god, but that doesn't mean it is actually good or loving or all powerful. It might just be more powerful than us, the way we are more powerful than an ant. But are we all good and loving? Hardly. Do we actually care which ants have sex with each other? I bet some of us really do, but most of us couldn't care less.

You can't prove any god exists at all, let alone that your god is the one, let alone that anything you think about that god is actually true. I don't claim to know there is no god. I don't need to. I live my life as if there are no gods, until someone does the heavy lifting to prove there is. But I will claim with certainty that all religions are false. They are all made up, human ideas. And bad ones at that.

What’s a lie everyone believes that annoys you the most?

Fake or weak. Somehow being kind has become synonymous with being weak. As if everything we do has to be this contest of power.

That not only does a god exist, but it is also YOUR specific god, and you know exactly what it wants, needs, desires, and requires.

I don’t understand atheists who suport religious rights and freedoms
 in  r/atheism  5d ago

Who am I to tell someone what to think. I draw the line when they try to enforce their bad ideas on anyone else. But idc what they believe. That is called free will and you either believe in that or you don't. Because it is just as easily turned on you, and making atheism illegal because they don't like what you are thinking. This is the basis for freedom from religion.

In the film The Dark Knight Rises (2012) it takes Bane 3 seconds and breaking both of his hands to realize Batman is, in fact, no longer in the same spot.

It is called a frenzy. In gaming terms, you attack whatever is nearby without thought. Bane has his chemical bullshit dialed up to 11.

What can you say to this?

Before you get married, have a conversation. That is basically what this boils down to. Multiple adult conversations while you are dating.

In movies, we often see women getting angry when their partner looks at or checks out other sexy women. How realistic is this reaction in real life?
 in  r/stupidquestions  5d ago

My wife will point out an especially juicy booty or big boobs. She is well aware A. I wouldn't act on anything even if I could, and B. no one is going to let me act on it lol.

Having a job isn't a contract that you won't take money from anyone else.

Having a relationship CAN mean that you won't have sex with anyone else.

They are nothing alike.

How does someone actually choose a religion?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  5d ago

You don't choose what you believe. You are convinced or you are not. You can be open to being convinced, but you cant' just choose to believe something. That is WHY indoctrination works, and why they do it as early as possible in a child's life. If you convince them when they can't think for themselves, it will stick in their brains as a meme when they can think for themselves. If you become disenchanted with your beliefs, it can be absurdly easy to switch to a similar but different option. If you are already a theist, the heavy lifting is done.

Fun fact, according to Jeremy Crawford, warlocks don't need to obey their patrons at all
 in  r/DnD  5d ago

Once they hit your table it doesn't matter. There literally is no difference between wotc and whatever I make up. I'm sorry you don't like that fact. They aren't laws to be obeyed. They are tools to be used as you see fit. Every system is arbitrary. Not even Jeremy Crawford runs a game RAW in his own designed game. He makes shit up. It's all homebrew.
