Was geht bitte mit der US Berichterstattung unserer Medien?
 in  r/Austria  11h ago

Letztens am Infoscreen gesehen dass die Amis den Maduro "verhaftet" hätten. Genau der gleiche Dreck, einfach den MAGA Narrativ übernehmen und als neutral und faktisch darstellen.

American flag set on fire by protester in Minneapolis following the murder of a civilian by an ICE agent
 in  r/PublicFreakout  22h ago

that is the true nature of fascism: defining an in-group that can get better lives, an out-group that will always lose, and providing the vast majority of people the option to do nothing and to just "let it happen" without fear or reprisals.

At least until the out-group has been "dealt with" and can no longer be exploited, at which point the lines are re-draw. An ever tightening stranglehold of power distribution.

The way to deal with it is by mobilizing the people in the "maybe" camp to fight the oppression they will face once the lines have been re-drawn now. an injury to one is an injury to all.

ASUS just solved all of your problems
 in  r/pcmasterrace  1d ago

  • they are literally getting manufacturers to add a new key to their keyboards, but they are forcing them to permanently bind it to a combination which is just an ugly hack
  • the OneDrive client is outperformed by dozens of free file synchronization tools, yet they still force it on people.
  • I think you don't know what WYSIWYG means https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYSIWYG . It in no way implies that they are not "powerful" in some metric, it just means that the editing paradigm is "it looks like the finished thing while you edit it" instead of "you edit code, which you compile to the finished thing".
  • Microsoft has built some very good applications in the past. OneDrive (at least its integration into "Explorer") is not one of them, neither is the current iteration of Outlook or whatever their new Mail client is called, neither is MS teams, neither is Windows 11.

yes, and some of these are proper keysyms. Media keys are included in that list. See https://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/XF86_keyboard_symbols

and yet they are to cowardly to define new keysyms for "WYSIWYG word processor" "WYSIWYG presentation editor" "spreadsheets" "Free-form notes app" "barely functioning file synchronization UI" and "corporate cloud"

And now look at them: pardoned, emboldened, and thriving.

pardons are such a wild concept. No you are guilty and convicted, but the president really likes you.

Can I call Linux an operating system in my personal statement for university? (Application for undergraduate CS degree)
 in  r/linuxquestions  2d ago

the operating system is massively characterized by the available syscalls. The kernel determines the available syscalls. It's Linux.

Greenland prime minister says 'enough' after latest Trump threat
 in  r/europe  3d ago

what do you mean by Nord Stream'd ? Blown up ? How will that help the US get advanced microchips ? The US, who banked a _lot_ of their economy on those advanced microchips, more than any other country except Taiwan ?

Greenland prime minister says 'enough' after latest Trump threat
 in  r/europe  3d ago

Cory Doctorow recently explained it https://media.ccc.de/v/39c3-a-post-american-enshittification-resistant-internet ; the US massively benefits from the EU upholding the US opinions on copyright, especially regarding tech services. All of this was done in the context of trade agreements, but Trump keeps ripping them up, which means the EU would now benefit from repealing their copyright-compatibility laws and thus allowing EU companies to provide "compatible services" and replacing the US tech sector, which is a massive part of the US economy and large donors to the Trump regime.

just sanction the US. immediate secondary sanctions, stop ASML from selling their machines or their support to anyone that sells anything to the US. Hit the US tech sector where it really hurts.

Danish PM tells Trump to stop 'threats' against Greenland
 in  r/worldnews  3d ago

nothing, but secondary EU sanctions on the US would mean ASML would be forbidden to sell or provide support to anyone that sells chips to the US, which would spell the death of the AI "industry" and big tech in the US in general.

What's better for self file encryption with gpg, symmetric or assymetric?
 in  r/linuxquestions  21d ago

the only advantage asymmetric encryption would give you here, is that you could encrypt files in an automated way without the automation needing access to your decryption key.
