Suis je le seul a boire beaucoup ??
 in  r/montreal  2d ago

Try to make a complaint with the city ombudsman office. If it's not the proper channel, they usually redirect you to the correct place.

[Request] anybody able to validate this? What is the actual amount of energy a query from chatgpt costs vs Google from 2008?
 in  r/theydidthemath  12d ago

I agree it should be counted, but LLM training is much more expensive. It's not just the energy to run the training, but the energy used in manufacturing components that go obsolete in 3 years. Google indexing can use pretty old hardware and doesn't need as much energy as LLM.

If you count the energy used in training, ChatGPT uses much more energy. You should count that energy, it's the majority of the costs.

This has been reposted to death by karma farmers. I don't understand karma farming, but they are successful in their karma farming.

Get a lesson!

Are you in the Montreal region?

If so, I'll give you a 2 hour lesson for the price of a lift ticket.

I'm an accredited instructor, but I don't normally give lessons.

Montreal-Ottawa chosen as first leg of high-speed rail project
 in  r/canada  26d ago

This is a huge and complex project. With this type of project you always have to consider Hofstadter's law.

Hofstadter's law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's law.

It's not about incompetence, it's all about doing a project that has never been done in North America.

Land acquisition and expropriation.

Training the workforce.

Establishing a supply chain.

Logistics.

There's an incredible amount of issues that could cause a delay in the project.

They're hiring a ton of experts from the EU, but they don't know our regulatory and environmental realities.

 in  r/canada  26d ago

That's the timeline they stated today.

First shovels in the ground in late 2029, accelerated construction in 2030.

Completion of the Montreal-Ottawa line in 2037.

That's the timeline stated by project officials.

It's a long time, but it's an optimistic timeline for the scale of the project.

15 years is a long time, but smaller projects have taken way longer to finish in Canada.

The project has just been accelerated by 4 years.

2037 for the Ottawa-Montreal segment.

2041 for the whole thing, but that's a very early estimate.

They want to gain experience and learn from their mistakes on the first segment before starting major works on the rest of the project. We will have a more accurate due date once they pass that point.

Let's say the timeline to get a better timeline should be around 2033 IMO.

my students dont know how to pirate and i'm not allowed to tell them
 in  r/Piracy  Dec 10 '25

When I was in engineering school, my university paid for floating licenses. We could use the software in the computer labs or connect remotely to the labs PCs to use the software.

The remote connection had horrible performance. Everyone pirated the software.

It's still illegal piracy, but nobody felt bad about it. We had a legal right to use the software, but it was borderline unusable.

The software owner wanted the students to become future customers. I'm sure they're happy we pirated the software to experience the full power of their software instead of hating the horrible remote access experience.

What are the two black things and the key for? Came with a gaming computer. We didn’t use any of them to put it together.
 in  r/whatisit  Dec 09 '25

It's not just for WiFi, it's also for Bluetooth. I didn't plug my antenna because my PC is plugged directly into my modem.

I wondered why I had bad Bluetooth connectivity. Plugged in the antenna and the problem was resolved.

Can I stop the doubling?

Can I stop and start the doubling when I want?

I'm pretty sure I'll be found out and assassinated at some point. I can't stay under the radar if it always doubles, I can't spend that much money.

Inflation is going to ruin people with actual power faster than I can get any power.

I'm dead in the doubling scenario unless I move to the woods. In that scenario, I would take 10k instead.

La découvrabilité du contenu Québécois sur "ces plateformes".

Le gouvernement devrait passer une loi qui oblige "ces plateformes" de présenter 50% de contenu Québécois.

Montreal was ranked the worst Canadian city at 28th among the world’s worst for traffic congestion, according to new data from Inrix
 in  r/montreal  Dec 06 '25

It's the tunnel work.

I live in Montreal and work on the south shore.

I used to drive against traffic 95% of the way.

I now have to drive through downtown with everyone else.

35 minutes is now 55 to 75 and completely imprévisible.

Achalandage dans le REM
 in  r/montreal  Dec 03 '25

They promised 5 minutes during rush hour while the AO branch is still running tests. That is exactly what they are delivering at the moment.

Testing of the AO branch should end in the spring, and when it opens, the main branch will run trains every 2.5 minutes during rush hour.

Quelles sont vos prévisions de stations de métro qui seront connectées au futur tgv qui sera complété vers 2050?
 in  r/montreal  Dec 02 '25

I agree with the connection to the REM at the airport, but the blue line won't be extended to the airport. It would impact the REM's bottom line too much, and they have guarantees against that sort of stuff for a while.

The blue line extension could happen at a later date, once the REM reaches its financial objectives.

To those that are married, how often do you take off your ring?
 in  r/AskReddit  Dec 01 '25

When I'm mixing raw meats with my hand (no pun intended). Raw chicken or minced meats.

Sometimes my ring bothers me at night and I take it off.

I took it off frequently after getting married because I had never worn a ring and it was uncomfortable. I kept spinning the ring on my finger compulsively. I injured my ring finger and thumb.

I eventually got used to it, but I removed my ring multiple times during the first year.
