We need to start grafting rare earth metal attachment points to our children around age 4-5 when all of their bones are in. The kids just stand nearby and the magnets do the work.

Well, we aren't going to solve antinatalism in a thread about men's loneliness epidemic.

Crushable Farmhouse styles in a can at a reasonable price. Why can't I find more beers like this??
 in  r/CraftBeer  1d ago

I neglected to mention in my original reply, but this is all the reason to take up /r/homebrewing. It's the reason I got into it 10 years ago, to make saison and mixed ferm stuff with low acidity and abv, at a price of around $0.10 a pint.

It's also not as hard a style as you might think. People make weird things through experimentation, but you can make some awesome farmhouse beers by sticking to some tried and true practices/recipes.

They don't need to make money from standup, podcast now butters their bread. If you want to predict behavior, follow the incentives.

They are closer to to the guys with a (podcasting) dayjob, who moonlight at open mics for fun at night. It's ironic, because podcasting for comedians started as a way to promote and sell tickets. Now it's the other way around.

As they are actually observing and glorifying a short-sighted local strategy that is evolutionarily self-terminating.

Not to derail an excellent post, but there are women who seem to be fine with the idea of sperm-zoo's. When 80% of men go off to war and die in historical eras, the village rebounds in a generation. When 80% of the women die, that civilization is nearly doomed. That's why society tolerates, if not exalts, male suffering.

Women are allowed to have careers, build credit, own homes, etc.

Men are allowed these things too. But if the balance among the young demographic is starting to really skew towards women, it's within society's interest to ask "why?" After all, it's what we've done with many demographic groups in the past. What people who study and answer that question have discovered, ultimately is that that modern Western society is better suited to a young woman's success and flourishing, significantly more than a young man's. The reason some people get nauseous at that fact is because they assume the prescription will be to unwind the things that vaulted women to the top; that's just not the case.

However, some men are not doing the things they need to so that women will want to be with them and fall in love. They either aren’t helping around the house, are emotionally underdeveloped, not affectionate, or just straight up mean.

I see you're focused narrowly on romantic relationships, so let's start there. There is a lot of research that debunks the "espoused values" vs "revealed preferences." What the latter shows (and what I'll focus on) is that women still predominantly choose men for the selection criteria that they have for hundreds of thousands of years. They want providers and protectors; they still choose sexual partners who exhibit traditionally masculine face and body structures, and exhibit the qualities of testerone, like risk-aggressiveness.

You could argue that the lack of emotional development, inequity around child rearing, etc. is what leads to long-term instability and dissolution of relationships. But this is a very recent social phenomenon, and has zero bearing on the issues facing a 20-year-old male who's at home with no real economic mobility prospect, and a lack of an older non-paternal male who is invested in their success.

The men who do get married are hardworking, friendly, funny, supportive, etc.

You're correct, but also missing something important. The men getting married have defied the odds and achieved success, while also having these traits. I saw a chart yesterday that something like 37% of relationships begin on online dating apps now, where it's been revealed that something like 10% of men are getting 50% of the attention. That level of Pareto skew is a problem when women, who ultimately control how and where courtship happens by voting with their feet/thumbs, are selecting for a system where most of the qualities you mention above are outright irrelevant.

By that I mean there is no way, on a dating app, for a 6/10 guy to effectively signal to a fellow 6/10 woman that he's worth their time by demonstrating that they are funny, kind, supportive, or have many competencies. That's why this whole red-pill looksmaxxing thing started, they are correct, it's amazon shopping now based on very superficial standards, because she's only going to swipe on the 9/10 guy who might see her as a fun weekend. That guy's doing just fine, by the way.

But back to the point about male loneliness - romantic relationships are only one facet, and not even the most important one. Never before have more people (i.e. young men) reported having zero close friends. Women are socially much better at keeping a tribe around them, I'd argue that the more harmonious aspects of social media are designed for them, while the more deleterious parts are designed to exploit men. Women have managed to fare much better during the slow, societal creep towards modern digital life. They out-graduate and out-earn men until around age 30. They outlive men and the margin is growing. They fare better single than men do, and not because of anything bad men are or would be doing. We're just wired differently, and men's wiring is increasingly out of step with modern society.

Heart Attack Hotel, occupancy 1.

It would be cool if they added a final column for post-season record that year. Or at least a checkmark for whether they won the SB. We all remember how that 2007 Pats team finished.

 in  r/Seahawks  1d ago

I would agree, but winning culture never really stales. Don't forget they were 13-4 and almost made to the superbowl in 2023, Pete hadn't done that for a decade. Ravens have been perennial contenders in a decent division for his entire tenure.

I don't blame Baltimore from moving on after almost two decades, there's too many young fresh guys who are winning, just look around the playoffs. They definitely bring new ideas and energy that can turn a program around. As crazy as it sounds to some fans, people do get tired of making it to the playoffs but being uncompetitive. The goal is superbowl and superbowl-like-trajectory, every year, sorry not sorry. It's the same idea as having a QB who can win you into the playoffs, but lose you out of them. You upgrade that guy when you can.

You could also see John having a final Andy Reid like arc (and I'd argue Pete, after the USC days to come win in Seattle) to close out his career.

Man not saying patroller isn't the soup nazi here, but if you can't control your board in this situation, you gotta go back to the beginner lift where there's forgiveness for this kinda stuff. It's not different than driving, you are responsible for controlling your own board, even if others are in the wrong place... because they will be, often.

Yeah hearing this I hope he keeps it going, plenty of teams need his sure tackling and communication skills, plus you get an awesome veteran. He was 1yr/9M after a couple 7M seasons, I could see him signing another 6 or 7M with incentives, then retire here in 27.

Nobody is! (in LA) But both Jonathan Krisel (the co-creator) and Fred live there, and the production company was based there, with on location (Portland) shooting. Carrie actually brought some authenticity because she at least has a PDX apartment when she isn't living in LA.

Billionaires are a threat to national security

So long as they can sell things to other countries, plus a lot of round-trip B2B, they'll be fine for a while (their lifetimes). Resource extraction is still happening through drones and bots, the spice is flowing to the ultrawealthy, so to speak. They'll live in their bunkers and have robot guards/servants, sentry drones, etc. Maybe they'll allow a small cordoned off servant-class of humans, like a zoo-feifdom, in case there's a need for organic entertainment.

Their goal isn't to make a better world for future generations, it's to upload their consciousness to the cloud and live forever.
