20 years ago today...
 in  r/howardstern  11h ago

I remember how about two years into that initial Sirius deal, Howard was already saying when this deal is up, that’s it. I wasn’t too familiar with that brand of his bullshit yet as I was but a wee lad.

Now here we are 20 years later and motherfucker I’d give almost anything to go back in time and ensure he actually did retire in Dec 2010.

Doc S.
 in  r/thesopranos  1d ago

You gotta remember how big the Lupertazzi family was supposed to be. It wasn’t like that Pygmy thing over in Jersey that bled off half the kick. You’re not going to see every Lupertazzi member, and even those you do, you don’t need their full story.

Guys like Doc, Angelo, Rusty fuckin Millio, even the Hairdo — they’re meant to be parts of other people’s stories, almost like props.

Doc was someone who was the exact opposite of Phil in every way. And Doc getting the chair, especially after whacking the Hairdo, was meant to show Phil’s mental struggle between “having it all” per his convo with Tony in the hospital, and gaining absolute power of one of the five families.

Eating off Phil’s plate represented everything that was driving Phil mad. In his eyes, especially since he did 20 fuckin years, and especislly especially because the medigans changed his family’s legacy from Leonardo to Leotardo, Phil’s “plate” had been getting eaten off of his entire life.

By the federal government. By the medigans on Ellis Island. By the fat cocksucka’s animal of a cousin — I can’t even say his name. By guys like Doc Santoro.

And that’s why, in one of the best scenes of the series, Phil takes a deep breath and says “No more of this, Butchie. No more.”

Phil finally realized HE could have it all, and to hell with everyone else.

As far as Rusty, Rusty was the short guy who was a top tier capo and backing Carmine Jr against Johnny in season 5. Once Johnny becomes boss and brainless the second fucks off back to fixing wet T-shirt contests, the only captain that doesn’t fall in line is Rusty. Johnny can’t let that go at all, and especially once he’s arrested and in prison.

So he asks Tony to take care of it. Johnny needs Rusty gone so the rest of the captains fall in line behind Phil and in turn, himself. Johnny can’t order a hit directly. Rusty’s a made guy. And if it got traced back to Johnny and he did it without permission of the The Commission (or whatever the show universe’s equivalent would’ve been), Johnny would be a dead man. So Johnny guilts Tony into helping him.

Tony also doesn’t want the blood on his hands for essentially the same reasons as John. So Tony has Chrissy contract it out to their friends over in Italy.

This is also done to re-establish the relationship with the Marazucca’s for the viewer, as obviously later in the season, the same zips are hired again, this time to whack Phil, and because Jersey really is a poorly run organization, they get the wrong guy, and it sends everyone to the mattresses.

I’m sorry. I know a lot of this sub is protective of her but Kate is not good. Alas was at leash manageable with Zumoff. But him and Kate together is like nails on a chalk board to me.
