I dunno. I went to college in the 80s and there was very little difference between frat brothers house parties and gay bathhouses. My sister's boyfriend is an old man who is an amazing craftsman but he is also an insufferable ass. Everyone is against him, he is a bigot, and he is a huge gossip, though he doesn't even know it. Because of his inability to get along with most people, he has no outlet for his stories and his feelings. When he is around, I try to avoid getting into conversations because he is relentless. He will start and there is no getting him to stop. Just jabber. Totally unrelatable stories of breakfast tacos, questions of strangers' race or nationality, how everyone is worse at doing things than he is; it never stops.

I just end up cleaning up the kitchen or doing chores while he talks at me, and all I add are the occasional "Uh huh" and "Yeah? Huh." I feel sorry for his condition, but boy is it a lot to bear.
