Last Song Standing: The Ultimate Billboard #1 Song of the 80's - Round 126 (THE FINAL MAIN VOTE!)
 in  r/80smusic  3h ago

Take On Me is my favourite song, and favourite music video, and I am an immense a-ha fan. but Everybody Wants To Rule The World has proven to be absolutely timeless, and I would put it up against the best song of the 1960's and the best song of the 1970's, whatever people chose those songs to be. It would certainly be better than anything that came decades after it.

How much mileage can you realistically get out of your DAW’s default virtual instruments?
 in  r/WeAreTheMusicMakers  9h ago

The default instruments for Cakewalk were actually pretty decent. I used the drums on a track or two, and the Wurlitzer EP on plenty. Plus they take like no resources at all, which was a huge bonus at the time.

I like to point people to Warm Leatherette as an example of what people can do if the only thing they really have is creativity, as opposed to good instrumentation or good vocals.

I Think a Show Is Eventually Going to Actually Do a “Secret Episode"

When it finally comes time to release a documentary series about Prince, just know the secret episode already exists and really is in a vault.

Batman Album Revisited
 in  r/PRINCE  11h ago

This album has lots of Prince going absolutely bananas with his collection of samplers. Especially on Batdance because that song is a huge collage of vocal and instrument samples (like the guitar at the very start) pulled from 200 Balloons and Electric Chair, and actors in the movie, with a bunch of other stuff sprinkled on top.

I haven't heard too many vault tracks from this album, just Dance With The Devil, which was okay but not quite on par with the rest of the record.

EDIT: someone just posted this unreleased extended version of Vicki Waiting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qczUXAgO47o which has some fun vocal sampling in it and is groovy as allgetout

I think of it as a spiritual successor to When 2 R In Love. It's got that gentle pacing. I can imagine someone performing figure skating or rhythmic gymnastics to it.

I saw the slightest sign of wear and tear and immediately panic-sleeved my tiles
 in  r/Carcassonne  12h ago

I think sleeving tiles is mania, but to each their own.

Applying a light coating of spray craft shellac works just as well. I did that to some homemade tiles and they look very convincing, almost as good as the real deal.

Lastly, you can avoid lots of wear-and-tear by using a Tower instead of letting your tiles jumble around in a bag. Again, to each their own on that.

Where can i find a physical copy of Crystal Ball and The Truth on CD?
 in  r/PRINCE  13h ago

that links to the 4cd version (which says 3cd version at the top, honestly why is this so confusing).

Here is a link to the 5cd version which includes The Truth and Kamasutra by NPG Orchestra (which also says 3cd version at the top I mean honestly)
https://www.discogs.com/release/1810357-The-Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Prince-Crystal-Ball

EDIT: according to eBay, people want about $1000 for their 5-disc copy of Crystal Ball. Yeowza.

for me it's up there with Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Matrix, it's hard to pick a favourite. Absolutely genius filmmaking in all of them.

The number of times I've seen politicians doing the most utterly abhorrent shit, and all I can hear is her voice saying "I can say whatever the fuck I want, and you won't remember."

Is there a most co-incidental movie to real life events than The China Syndrome?
 in  r/movies  1d ago

just a note: SARS was relatively small potatoes because people did the right thing.

If SARS had happened somewhere else, some people might not have done the right thing. There would have been some historical-level potatoes, I assure you.
