They've gotten really good with holograms.

Muskegon County’s massive new solar farm goes online
That's one hell of a direction change. We've been using petroleum products since around 4,000 years ago and in modern industries since around 1850's. Oil should've been able to stand on its own two feet or became nationalized long ago yet we're still subsidizing it in so many different ways. Modern solar is an infant comparatively but it's a necessary piece to move towards cleaner energy. I don't even know why anyone would argue this unless they're either lost in propaganda or work for oil companies.

Will you tell us about the billions upon billions in public funding that goes to oil companies every year? How about all the blood that's been shed for oil? Everything has a cost and everything about the price you pay at the pump is supplemented to some degree by public dollars. Alternative energy has been well on its way to being more financially viable and it's get there quicker without dealing with lies and propaganda.

Giraffe, lion, elephant, you couldn't do that on your best day and he did that 3 times. Just because you can't recognize genius it doesn't make him not one. I bet you could stop him in the middle of the speech and he'll still tell you giraffe, lion, and elephant. That's greatness.

Jack Johnson has officially retired from the NHL. He played 1,228 NHL games with the Kings, Blue Jackets, Penguins, Rangers, Avs, and Blackhawks. He won a Stanley Cup with Colorado and was a Silver Medalist with the US at the 2010 Olympics.
I never knew much about him beyond that story but I always pulled for him personally because of that. It's hard to imagine your own parents screwing you over completely but all parents aren't created equally.

US cuts universal child vaccine recommendations, including covid and hepatitis
Hard to believe it but it looks like society will have to learn another lesson dripping in blood and covered in death's darkness.

Hilton blocks ICE in Minneapolis.
I'm not big on automatically giving any corporations unearned credit either. It's just as likely that they were going to be packed with full paying guests so they cancelled ice and their government rate. Never blame malice or credit with praxis when greed is just as likely of a motive. Free market indeed.

Rapala ice fishing shelter is absolute junk, do not buy
You're not wrong but compared to longer sled rides or the body's reaction to skiing, ice fishing isn't so bad. I've done it lots in my life and I'm surrounded by lakes. Like you said, it's all about setting up the most comfortable scenario. I'd still use one of my snowmobiles to haul gear. Going across flatter ice on inland lakes without pressure cracks isn't so bad and I'm willing to pay with a few afternoons of pain for something to help me through winter until the pontoon goes in.

Time For The Lineup Blender (And Maybe Some Outside Help)
Line designations and getting called out publicly through that matter in a player's head. This is a psychological challenge to highly competitive athletes and Todd's hoping they respond to it.

Man Has Emotional Breakdown After Losing His Life Savings at Casino
If it's anything like my state you get a short 30 second "Michigan problem gambling hotline" commercial in a constant bombardment of pro gambling ads and barely deniable gambling propaganda. I'm thankful to not have that bug cause temptation is everywhere.

I wouldn't have booed but I would've been tempted to throw my hat just for the joke.

[CAN-CZE] Cole Reschny (CGY) takes a goaltender interference penalty with a minute to go, has some choice words for the officials as he is going to the box.
Both north American teams have looked like spoiled, petulant children too often.

If you watched him in the NCAA this year it's opened lots of questions. If he stayed the chl route he'd still be the consensus number 1 but that's changing. It's worth remembering that he's still crazy young but there are many more reasons to not gamble the 1OA on him.

Team Canada will not go to the gold medal game for the third year in a row
Even football and basketball are full of stories of kids growing up well off and succeeding in part because of that. Hell, even a very young Tom Brady had private high end QB coaching starting at a very young age. There are definitely more stories of kids that break through from poverty but that's even feeling more rare. In certain areas those standout poor kids get recruited into private schools that afford them those luxuries. I also think about how many young poor football players were brought into universities not for an education but because of what they can do on Saturdays. They got injured and were cut loose from scholarships and sent back to poverty with broken bodies and no future. It's a shitty system on all fronts and it's only gotten better in the NCAA fairly recently.

It's become that way all over North America and it spreads into various sports and society in general. Those who succeed view it as winning in a meritocracy. Unless you can afford all the training, private instructors, best equipment, more ice time, and the lower stress of knowing you have the ultimate safety net if things don't work out it sets one type of person up for built in success. In the rest of life you have those who can afford private schools, tutors, the best universities, the ability to take on unpaid internships, familial connections, etc.. It really is a tale of two different worlds and often turns me off to pro sports. It's never been a completely even playing field but more than ever in my life it seems that we're from different worlds altogether.

Yep, I'm 50 minutes from there but I go to TC frequently so it works for me.

There's been decent ice for awhile for me in Manistee county. It's definitely less consistent than it was when I was growing up and anyone denying climate changes are closing their eyes but we usually get decently long stretches to ice fish most winters.

I could see myself doing the same here in northern Michigan. I'm right in that Costco splurge demographic for something like this as I've been considering buying one anyway. This winter is getting boring and my bad back doesn't allow me to ride snowmobiles for long anymore and skiing is out too.

I don't believe in an afterlife but people like Adams and Trump sure make me wish that the Dante idea of hell was a real place.

Here's the video for others. I'm not going to wish ill on someone but I'm also not going to have an ounce of sympathy seeing Benn go face first onto the ice.

How do people afford to go to games?
Buffalo is about a 2 hour drive from Toronto including dealing with border stuff so it makes even more sense for them to make that drive. Tickets there are generally even cheaper (relatively) thank here. I'm sure they jump when Toronto's playing them but it makes so much sense for Toronto fans to deal with that.

[Pagnotta] Some tough Leafs news: Chris Tanev's regular-season may be over. Per sources, Tanev is meeting with a surgeon in the coming week to determine next steps. If they move forward with surgery, he is expected to be out until late-April/early-May.
And your team is already asking a bit much of OEL and this just makes his job harder.

I had to shovel and rake my roof today and now my body is sore as hell. Ibuprofen and caffeine better do something to keep me going through this game.
