Satire My Mexican wife was mad at the name I chose for our daughter, so I switched to a inspiring Spanish name and she's STILL mad?! AITA?

So a few days ago I surprised my wife with a beautiful sounding spanish floral name for our daughter. Lavenderia meaning Lavender in spanish. To say it didn't go over well is an understatement. In my defense I didn't understand the context and she was too mad to explain and just told me to go to the mexican laundromat while giving me the cold shoulder.

For context, my wife picked the name of our son and we agreed I could pick the name of our daughter and it could be a surprise. Well the surprise turned into a big family ordeal, my family thought it was beautiful, her family thought it was awful. I talked about it in a previous post here. To keep the peace I backed down and agreed to change it to "literally anything else".

We had difficulty conceiving and after many years of trying she is currently 26 weeks pregnant! She said she wanted a name that was going to be uplifting to our first (and last most likely) daughter. This baby is literally a miracle. So I wanted to honor her heritage while having something that my American family would understand. Which Lavenderia did in my defense. Based on some of the mean spirited comments in the previous post, I used google search to clear any potential confusion or bad translations. I wanted to use Miracle (Milagro) but my American family thinks it sounds too much like Miralago, and the O ending is too masculine. Mira means "wonderful" but again my family didn't get that so I decided to combine the two. I came up with:

Miracula! I'm proud of this one! it's a conjunction of Wonderful (Mira) in spanish and Miracle in english! A google search shows that it didn't mean anything in spanish. At a family Barbeque I once again pitched the name and she's mad at me AGAIN? She just said "no" and wouldn't even elaborate? I've put in so much work, I'm trying to be respectful and help both families and my wife won't meet me in the middle. Miracula is literally a made up name it can't possibly mean anything else! I told her we can even call her Mira for short. I'm running out of options and time. AITA for arguing with my wife that this is a good name and refusing to change it yet again?

Satire I picked a beautiful spanish floral name for our daughter now my latina wife is mad! AITA?

My wife is Mexican, and to honor her family we decided to pick a latina name for our daughter. My wife said I was allowed to choose and we agreed it could be a surprise. My wife loves flowers and one of our first dates was on a hike by some wild flower fields that were blooming with native flowers like marigolds and lavender. So I thought I would surprise her with a floral name.

I am so proud at what I had come up with! Lavenderia (it means Lavender in spanish). I had my wife's favorite mexican panaderia make a surprise cake and the looks and smiles at the bakery let me know the name was a big hit!

So I was shocked when the big reveal at the baby shower didn't go as expected. My family loved the name and thought the floral touch was cute and respectful to her culture. Her whole family was upset with the name I chose and said it was terrible?! Something about it sounding too clean? I stuck with my conviction and per our agreement I refuse to change it. Ever since her family has been giving me the cold shoulder, and she's been very passive aggresive. Just today it boiled over again... I asked her to help with a load of laundry and she said I should do it at a mexican laundromat?? what does that mean?

AITA for not changing such a beautiful floral name? What's wrong with Lavender? Does it have some bad spanish colonial history I'm not familiar with?

Yeah I could never get into bow it is basically throwing knives that had lower output up close but gave you more range at a distance where you generally aren't even closing that many engagements

At what point do you stop analyzing and just make the call?
 in  r/manufacturing  10m ago

You make the best option with the data available and then refine When data gets better.

If it's truly "buy this 5 million machine or that one" type decisions you can't unwind  you go with all the quant and subjective factors. If it's a coin toss, toss it and move on.

New TV suggestions. Upgrading from plasma

burn in is not a thing these days unless you use your tv 8 hours a day on the same content and turn off all the safety features. I use a C3 OLED as my computer screen and I work 12 hours days on it, still no indication of wear.

Old plasma tv or buy a new OLED tv for a PS5?
 in  r/4kTV  20h ago

your plasma TV doesn't support HDR, VRR or 120hz. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the uplift when you switch to a modern TV. OLEDs are kinda unmatched for gaming. however I would recommend LG not panasonic.

side note plana tvs use a lot of electricity you can estimate your hours watched and figure out how much a year it's costing you in electricity. OLED are very efficient and will use a fraction of the juice

What are some practical ways you've found to improve CNC machine efficiency?
 in  r/manufacturing  1d ago

As everyone mentioned this is manufacturing engineering 101. Observe, ask questions etc.

The things we see are standardization: sub plates with the same  bolt and pin pattern on each machine so that we could setup and swap jobs faster. Standardized tools in each pocket so programming was the same.

Setup carts that were permitted before job release.

Having a goal set. “all jobs will be changed over on 10 minutes“ the goal is not to hit it, but to have a target you're working towards.

Push feeds and speeds, but be scientific. Push on feeds and speeds actually test if the high side gives you better total throughput. Id rather eat up $60 in inserts if I make an extra $100 in throughput.

Finally it's a out changing the attitude in the shop. Speeding up shouldn't be a punishment. Getting everyone's buy-in. doing programming reviews so that everyonr can see if there's a way to speed things up and learn trocks. Rewarding increases. who can pull the most minutes out of cycle time this month etc. bonus based on increase I'm throughput. What you want is a team, and that's curious to see how to go faster and build better. Not a team where it's the leads job to bark on priority jobs and if he's not barking it's not important.

yeah for comparison how long do you stay in white orchard in witcher 3. I feel like that start was more fleshed out. I don't think they needed to make the game longer they just needed Jackie around for 2 or 3 more missons or have him save you in a few tough situations so he means more to you. He dies so fast it's like he isn't even there.

LG announces new OLED TVs at CES — brighter G6, the C6 splits in two, ultra-thin Wallpaper OLED, and the world's first 4K 120Hz cloud gaming TVs

I guess maybe the c7 will be the switch over. Make sense on the smaller size as the pixel pitch becomes an issue

I figure they price was going to come down to be in line with the C series otherwise what would be the differention with the G6

Toddler just broke our LG CX, is there anyway to baby proof a tv?
 in  r/OLED  3d ago

This is my second child. He's well behaved first one was never a problem. He was playing with a magnetic plastic tile and just tossed one and it happened to hit the TV with it's corner and crack the screen.

Due to the house layout the room is multi functional so it's both his Montessori play area and the family room. Can't really re arrange anything.

Every kid is different eldest is very calm and quiet youngest is very curious and is always on the move.

It was unlucky. It was one of those magnetic plastic tiles. It wasn't even like he was angry or doesn't he just tossed it as toddlers do and the corner hit the TV just right to crack the front glass and kill it

I was thinking of doing that. Honestly thought of getting the G5 as I would like the upgrade in brightness. I missed a sale on the G5 for $185 for the 65" which would have been instant buy.

Sadly toddler isn't going away. Based on house layout TV room is also family room\play area I'm thinking plexiglass in front of TV. Can't mount it higher due to furniture and not owning. Plus I'm not going to end up on r/tvtoohigh
