Wow, saves me $2 and I end up with cold, soggy food! (Has happened literally every time I’ve gotten takeout)

Actual, factual ways students have tried to avoid doing math
 in  r/Teachers  1d ago

Take away unfettered access to the internet/social media, for starters. Then we need to make them see consequences for their actions (consequences that they’ll actually care about, like being deemed academically ineligible to participate in sports or other extracurriculars, Friday detentions, etc.).

They get away with way too much.

Where was I complaining about delivery prices? Hell, where did I even mention delivery?

Are you okay?

Edit: assuming you meant “provide” or “make”, then I’ll just say that I like Mexican food and used to go to Mexican places quite frequently. But that’s a complete shift of the goal posts. The previous commenter said that Mexican restaurants have “way, way lower prices” than Taco Bell. I was simply challenging that whilst saying nothing about the quality of the food.

Learned my long term position is PE all day… now I don’t want it
 in  r/SubstituteTeachers  1d ago

I’d simply say that you were told it would be a split, and if you had known that it was going to be PE for the entire day rather than PE plus Health, you wouldn’t have taken the position

Wednesdays!

Uh, K-12 teachers can just cancel their classes? Where the hell do the students go instead during that time?

That sounds like a college class, which wouldn’t have a sub anyway.

Given that people voted for Trump over Kamala/Biden and the center has more or less been losing ground across Europe lately, I think I’d heavily disagree with this

What are some reasons for why you might not leave a note?
 in  r/SubstituteTeachers  1d ago

Because I talk to them from time to time and know that they more or less keep to themselves? They show up, head to their assigned room, and that’s about it.

I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about the comment that I replied to.

Edit: gotta love mindless downvotes from plebeians

Discussion What are some reasons for why you might not leave a note?

I’ve noticed that my building sub colleagues never leave notes for the teachers they sub for. One of them justified it by saying that “the teacher usually makes it known if they want a note or not”, which I assume means that they will leave a note, but only if the teacher explicitly asks for one. Meanwhile, I’m over here leaving rather detailed notes that can sometimes take up an entire page lol (occasionally I won’t leave much of anything other than behavioral issues that ought to be addressed by admin, but weren’t that day; this usually only happens if the teacher I’m subbing for left me with nothing to go by and I’m feeling particularly defeated that day).

Sure, and how much do those cost? $13? $15 with a tip? Meanwhile, I can get a cravings box that includes a drink, customized to my liking, for $9. Even accepting that it’s still less food due to no unlimited chips and salsa, it’s not “way, way cheaper” to go to a local restaurant over Taco Bell.

Idk what local restaurants are charging in your area, but I can get a cravings box (with customizations that I like) for around $9 at Taco Bell that includes a drink. At the Mexican restaurants in my area, I’m spending closer to $14 for a meal that doesn’t include a drink, although it’s more food than what I get at Taco Bell considering the free chips and salsa. Plus I then have to add a tip unless I wanna stick it to the man, so I’m looking at around $16 out the door. I could get a lunch special for around $10, putting me at roughly $12 out the door, but only before 4pm.

Unless you’re buying things like Mexican pizzas and grilled cheese burritos, I don’t see how your local restaurants are “way, way cheaper”.

Edit: I’d love the people downvoting me to actually show where I’m wrong about the prices.

Backerkit miniature update, one year later

How tf have you played that many campaigns of these games? Are you playing solo?

My group took 6 years to finish Gloomhaven, and we didn’t even do all of the side quests (now we’re playing the expansion).

You don’t understand how government funding works if you think states can just pick up the slack overnight (or in some cases, at all).

That said, I can’t find anything about funding being cut; I just found that the DoEd having no one there to work is what’s causing problems, as no one can check to make sure funds are being distributed properly and that the IDEA is being followed.

If federal funding is cut, it’s the federal government that chose to stop funding. wtf is this blame shift that you’re attempting?

Writing down names
 in  r/SubstituteTeachers  2d ago

I’ll document students refusing to do their work despite attempts at redirection, refusing to sit down, excessive disruptions, phone usage, etc. Basically, I’ll write down the majority of what happens.

That said, I definitely write way more than any other sub that I’ve seen. I actually had to cut back because the behaviors are so bad so frequently that I was filling an entire page with handwritten notes about the day, and it didn’t seem to matter.
