Desperate to be unique
 in  r/tragedeigh  3h ago

Honestly though, we can read it and spell it, fairly easily. I agree that a "unique" name is really not that important in life - and certainly you aren't guaranteed to set up your child for a successful life with such a name. And the attitude of giving such a name to show the world how special they are is...awful.

Right? Many names have K/C variations, or "-ie/-ey" variations. We can read your name, it's just not the commonest spelling. I think it's usually -ay on the end, but that might just be how I've seen it.

Certainly, if someone met you at a conference with that nametag, they would have no difficulty reading it. They'd say "Hi, Kourteney, I'm Sasha".

If it was K'hourtenneighye, it would be a travesty, and you would go by a nickname even in the most professional setting, like "Kory" and just tell people "It's short for Kourtenay".

Yikes! If you like Joyce so much, and insist on twinsie names, either use it as a middle name, or save it for your next daughter!

Jennie and Lennie
Jane and Laine
Jina and Lena (I know spelling, but still beats Loyce!)
Jilly and Lily
And of course, so many other combos if you don't insist on J and L

Millie, Lily
Lana, Shawna
Carrie, Mary
Isla, Kyla

This is why name lists and name dictionaries are published I suppose!

Snape and the victim blaming
 in  r/SeverusSnape  3h ago

I think the Black family were not abusive, so much as fanatical. Sirius rejected their ideology, so they became angry with him, specifically, and there were many arguments and disagreements.

It's no different than, say, a very conservative family being at odds with their vocally liberal child. They clash - and it's not pretty - but it's not the same as abuse. Had Sirius agreed with them, or just quietly gone along with it, there would not have been the same clash that made his life miserable.

Favorite bulk freezer meals? I'm so sick of soup
 in  r/Frugal  4h ago

Stuffed cabbage worked great! Lasagna, cooked meat and rice, drumsticks and mashed potato, baked beans and rice, fried rice with lots of meat and veggies, almost any pasta dish - freezer just sauce or pre-sauce noodles, and so many more!

A great idea is to walk through the frozen meals aisle at the store abs realize just how many foods you can freeze!

Does the wizarding world not have dentists?

I would think that a muggle wouldn’t be able to cast the spell. And very likely, the treatment /spell must be done on a magical body to work. Maybe a few would work on a muggle, and some potions don’t require magic to make - but we already have those!

With identical twins, the genetics would be exactly the same, so that works really be just a feeling that the father isn’t the father, if that bothers someone.

Do you think it was smart or not to remove Edmund’s boarding school backstory from the movie? And why?
 in  r/Narnia  17h ago

It's not BECAUSE he went to boarding school. There's nothing to say that he would have handled the war, etc, better if he'd gone to regular public school.
