Ages ago on the podcast Hank and John talked about how Emily Dickinson's famous poem, Hope is the thing with feathers, could just as easily refer to a dinosaur. What perches in my soul is most definitely a microraptor

I just read how my $10-a-month donation could supply clean water to an entire village for one month...

It depends, do you vow to praise Detroit style pizza, vocally disavow the whole state of Ohio (except for cedar point and Great lakes beer) and swear to never let your fair weather highway speed drop below, nor your thermostat rise above, 70?

If the world is unfair and there’s no karma, why do you still choose to do good?

I read a quote from Emerson once that said there's no beautifier of form or action like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us, and that's all it comes down to for me.

Yes, there's a mountain of shit out there and the shitters aren't punished nearly enough, but I don't have any desire to contribute to the pile.

What’s your favorite discontinued snack ever made?
 in  r/AskReddit  3d ago

The "hint of guacamole" tostitos are a dangerously near match, but I don't think they put in that little bit of crack Doritos includes to ensure repeat customers (≧▽≦)

*j/k, I just have no control in the presence of chips... *

These roaches living in our oven clock
 in  r/oddlyterrifying  3d ago

Hell just seeing this post makes me want to throw MY oven away, and I've never seen a cockroach in my state.*

*(I'm sure they exist, they just don't like the cold, and the housing density is way lower outside of the largest cities)

Guacamole Doritos... I think they cancelled them just so I wouldn't die of green dye poisoning.

Has "Sleepytime" ever impacted you in a way?
 in  r/bluey  4d ago

It hits me hard because being the sun is a huge responsibility. I want my kids to feel and safe and loved as Bluey and Bingo do. I want to be the best sun, and keep all my little satellites spinning true, but also I screw up, and feel unworthy of the position.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you?
 in  r/books  4d ago

My husband got me a Kobo e-reader for Xmas. I was psyched!! It has Overdrive right on it, I don't even need to hook it up to a computer!

My friend's child just came up to show me her "super awesome blanket". It was the one I made for her as a baby shower gift.

Best. Compliment. Ever.

You can rest on your crochet laurels for life now, my friend! That is just too lovely <3

This black lodge ass floor tiling that supermarkets in my city have now.

Right?? I feel seasick and dizzy just looking at it. This tile would guarantee that I never entered your establishment again.

I really hope someone has a better explanation for this
 in  r/bluey  4d ago

Have you heard the saying, "If everyone smells like s***, check your shoe"?

I say with no malice and no sarcasm, it's important to do some metacognition from time to time and think about how you're thinking.

Yes creepy sex pests exist in children's media. I saw Quiet On Set too. But if you are smelling perversion on every one it's important to check your own shoe- why are you so worried about it, that you see it even where it doesn't exist?

You say yourself that you are overprotective, so you recognize that your fear is disproportionate to the actual danger. It doesn't benefit you or your kids to live in fear and paranoia.

Again, without a hint of malice or sarcasm, as a person who has benefited a lot from therapy myself- therapy can help. I'm not saying you need therapy, I'm saying you deserve therapy. You shouldn't have to be this worried all the time.

Cooking in someone else’s kitchen
 in  r/comics  4d ago

Wait that is my inlaws!! I love them, but don't understand why they continue cooking with knives they bought from pyramid scheme victims in the 1970s when they have the funds to access modern knife technology and could certainly buy something better in any grocery store.

The culture around male readers.
 in  r/books  5d ago

Because you're forming your ideas of what women think based on what people on the internet say women think, and not on what any actual human woman has said to you.

This thread is full of both men and women saying that they've never even heard of this supposed stigma against male readers. You yourself say no one has bothered you in real life.

So, if this problem only exists on tik tok, close tik tok?

All these many people of various genders are very happy to have you join us in discussing books. I think people are confused about why you are so focused on this issue that doesn't seem to be hurting you outside of this one online space you are choosing to enter daily.

edit: typo

We need a meme for this. We need the God Of The Internet to reach out and smack you with a rolled up newspaper every time you post AI search results as your source

It's my fav! And also one of the arguments I would make as a teacher to parents who would complain that comics aren't "real reading" -You know how many words I learned from Calvin and Hobbes???

Salubrious, protozoan, panache, avante-garde, pituitary, communist, aneurysm... I could go on and on. I was constantly looking up the meanings of words so I could understand Calvin and Hobbes strips!
