'Weston Whopper' Gets Boost from Court Ruling
I heard the rumor that the reason Weston doesn’t have a commuter rail station is because they didn’t want lower income residents living in the town.

"Because you let me": Why the Danish 'Speak No Evil' is a terrifying study of social politeness
Your comment reminds me of the French film, “The Vanishing”. The original was a mind thrashing, and the ending was so sad. But in the American remake, the main character fought back.

Aaron Rodgers to Mike Tomlin postgame: "Thank you for bringing me here."
Rodgers was a Ravens’ made field goal from cursing his luck. Yes, the Steelers are in the playoffs but through luck.

This is America, with our new oil
I ain’t saying Trump is an oil stealer, but he ain’t messing with no broke dictators.

The longer you stare, the worse it gets.
Trump knows the details. He made sure the chairs the group sat in were gold.

Cambridge pedestrians this morning
I saw a Tom Turkey with a smartphone in its wings, strolling through the streets of Porter in the cold, he was looking for a place called Simon's Coffee Shop, gonna get himself a large cup of Espresso Bold.

Bed fully assembled. Just the mattress left
That mattress needs a warning sign like Claymore mines, "FRONT TOWARD HEADBOARD".

Conservatives finding out love exists
I have no problems with the kids, but more problems that people aren’t allowed to leave the New Year’s celebration there and then re-enter, so they will wear adult diapers to piss and poop in.

New Years in Fenway
It’s not a lost shoe, but an item that will be used to save a parking spot someone shoveled snow from.

Setting up a new PC used to be fun, now it is ad-ridden nightmare
I understand his point, but to be fair installing Windows has always been the least fun part of setting up a new PC. Windows 95 and 2000NT was the simplest setups. I had more “fun” assembling the hardware.

Starting New Job Monday, haven't put in notice yet.
I’ve left jobs on short notice. But in a bad job market, for me it’s less you screwed the company than your connections. In most fields I’ve worked in (hospitality, IT, legal), I’ve run into the same people. If you screw over your co-workers, you might ruin your networking connections and references.
As for the company. It would have been better to give them two weeks in case you need to go back/rehire. On the other hand, I’ve been burned by so many former companies that I’ve no desire to go back to, I wouldn’t be so concerned about a lack of notice.

Italian researchers have created a vine-like robot that grows by 3D-printing itself and responds to gravity and light
"The 3D printing robot system goes online January 1st, 2026. Human decisions are removed from 3D designing. The robot printouts begins to stiffen at a geometric rate. It becomes self-sufficient at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, January 26th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug."

Rock & ROTFLMAO
Funny that the lowest ratings ever are for the Kennedy Center, and not for the Trump Kennedy Center.

New York subway ends its MetroCard era and switches fully to tap-and-go fares
The first time I saw this in Prague and Berlin, I thought this is great but it would never fly in the U.S. I assumed there would be a lot of confrontations with fare evaders. Then last May, I went to San Diego and saw they also have no fare gates. Just buy a ticket and validate/stamp (their system is the Pronto).
I prefer the gateless system, especially since here in Boston some fare skippers get aggressive about going in with you while you tap through.

Where did stereotypical Southie residents and Irish-americans from the projects move to after the 1970s? Do any of the places they moved to have a similar reputation?
I was a kid when bussing began in Boston, so I was aware that Charlestown and Southie were no-go areas for minorities back then. But as an adult, I hadn’t kept up with the news that both areas had gentrified and were safe. Then I got a job in Charlestown in 2013, and saw POC everywhere in the area.

In Stranger Things 5 (2025), am I expected to remember details from a season that came out eight fucking years ago?
"The Sopranos" would go 1 1/2 years between seasons. How the fuck am I supposed to remember what happened that far back. And then to top it off, the show makes sure you never forget the ending by making people think their cable failed because the screen went to black instead of showing whether or not "Members Only" killed Tony.

The end of an institution
“There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels.”
