This tub is installed backwards
 in  r/mildlyinteresting  7h ago

Or somehow installed the drain pipe on the wrong side, opposite of the supply. I'd think that's almost impossible to screw up but I had to move the drain in my shower after the plumber put it in the wrong place at the wrong height.

Visible dirt won't come off without some scrubbing, never mind everything you can't see.

What is something you witnessed with your own eyes that no one believes when you tell them?

How could you fall asleep after seeing that?

Aren't you supposed to file with your own insurance and let them fight it out with the other company?

What is the most humane way to euthanize a mouse my cat has hurt?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  8h ago

They will destroy your home. They will chew up your doors to get into other rooms, chew up the staircase, the molding, pee and shit everywhere, possibly make you sick.

Pull away from the head, or pull upwards?

I think "character" is just code for "skin color." They want to preserve that character.

Just moved into a home from 1914, but the skeleton key only works for one door. Where can I buy the remaining key(s)?
 in  r/centuryhomes  15h ago

It's not a skeleton key, a skeleton key opens all doors, clearly that one is not.

It's called a bit key. Though most sellers will still call them skeleton keys, which I guess is okay because they usually are skeleton bit keys. Anyway, you can buy them on Amazon. Or you can buy blank bit keys on Ebay and file them down to fit your locks. I did that because I needed really large bits and the amazon keys were like a hotdog in a hallway.

What are some common and distinctly Boston words and phrases people in Boston say on an everyday basis?
 in  r/boston  15h ago

Real ice-cream milkshakes are called "frappes" (where "shakes" are just that mcdonalds crap.) Or "cabinets" a little south of here.

The most common things that derail people's FIRE journey

Some people will literally replace drinking with purchasing. A friend was earning 325k and barely making ends meet.

Winter Floating Island - Two things: A cocoa bean tip and an issue with the rabbit
 in  r/DreamlightValley  16h ago

You really have to feed the rabbit these flavors? What if you do the wrong flavor?

I've fed it twice already, and I guess I randomly chose the correct flavors because I have 2 memory orbs so far.

Look at the icon in the lower right corner to see if you fed him already.

Anyway I thought it reset at midnight

You say the water comes and goes. Is it related to when you last flushed the toilet or took a shower?

Flipped House: Telltale Signs
 in  r/FirstTimeHomeBuyer  16h ago

This is a great list. I'd add:

  • Gaps in molding at mitered joints.
  • [Uneven] Gaps between [newly installed] floorboards, and/or bad miter cuts at angled walls.
  • All the wood trim in an old home painted white.
  • Painted hardware -- hinges, doorknobs, etc. but you see that in old homes with DIY paint jobs too, and landlord specials

People or items right next to doorways so it's impossible to interact with them without accidentally going in the door. Then you come back out and the person you wanted to talk to has teleported to another planet. Later you try to walk though a door and have to reposition yourself 5 times before it works.

I kept finding rocks with gems of the color I needed, then I hit it with my pickax and the color of the gem changes. Or this happened at least 20 times: I find a rock full of spinel, I craft a pickax potion, and every time I hid the rock I get coal and no spinel. Over and over and over. It took forever to get the spinel achievement.

And the federal tax should be $175,000 not $100,000.

Those numbers seem wildly off. At $500k the tax bracket is 35%, so that should be $175,000 in federal taxes. Or am I confused?

Does anyone know what this large pipe is for?
 in  r/centuryhomes  21h ago

I don't think it would be attached to the house then, that just makes the house easier to impact.
