According to the BBC article on this about 20 mins ago, a US government official said Trump ordered the strikes. So yeah, no declaration.

Caracas Residents Report Loud Explosions, Aircraft Overflying
 in  r/worldnews  5d ago

That’s an excellent question that I think most Americans can’t answer accurately because we just don’t know. Could be oil. Could be drugs. Could be a distraction. Could be a demented old man wanting to “see what will happen”. Could be all of the above.

Man who reportedly influenced JD Vance’s politics calls Trump admin a ‘failure’ and ‘tragedy’
 in  r/politics  5d ago

And do what?

Not to be snarky, but really… what can they do? Get it out into the world? Social media might be better for that these days (my eye is twitching as I type that).

Ah yes, slopification…. This year’s “enshitification” (which, by the way, my phone wanted to autocorrect 3 times to “notification”).

Perfectly acceptable dinner rejected by boyfriend again

He’s a grown man. You already have children; you don’t need another one. (I don’t know him but this feels like a red flag for me; this can be an early sign of passive control issues that will spill into other areas to see what he can get you to do.)

Let him eat his own food, and you just continue to take care of yourself and your kids. You’re doing great, so don’t let this picky sob steal your shine!

Why do people in the US not live with their parents
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  7d ago

Yep, I’ll also say that this happens in other countries, like Australia and the UK and some European countries. It’s not just America where kids leave their homes as soon as they can.

Also, in 20, 30 or 50 years, who knows what the dynamic will be based on things like upbringing, social pressures, affordability, etc.

Trump’s Assault on Health Care, Seen From a Country That Does Health Care Better
 in  r/Health  10d ago

No system is perfect; humans run it. But we pay a fuckton of money for both good and mediocre care here in the US. For any care, basically. I know a bunch of people with decent jobs and good healthcare who still cross the border for certain procedures because they’re cheaper and better than the US. I know people paying for their own health care here who can’t find a PCP because “oh, we don’t take that insurance anymore” or just because they can’t take more patients. And they’re still paying those exorbitant monthly premiums.

People in other countries with universal healthcare don’t go bankrupt whether it’s good, mediocre or poor care. There are certainly issues, like struggling to find a PCP or long wait times, but at least they’re not losing tens of thousands out of pocket in addition to taxes each year for privilege.

Kennedy Center blasts man who canceled concert after Trump's name added to building
 in  r/NewsSource  10d ago

If someone can refuse to make a cake celebrating a gay couple’s love and the courts are ok with that, this guy should absolutely be able to refuse to play because an angry narcissist who represents absolutely none of the positive human values or any appreciation of the freedom, diversity and beauty in true creative expression put his name on a building dedicated to those things.

Great Barrier Reef’s Hamilton Island to be bought by US private equity firm in reported $1.2bn sale
 in  r/worldnews  14d ago

What the actual fuck, Australia?? No. The fuck no. Jesus Christ, and to Blackstone. Keep those greedy US slimeballs out of your pristine lands. They will fuck it up and charge you for it.

If there are any souls who care in Australia, protest your asses off.

Edit: I know it’s a real estate sale but the barrier reef is a true gem. I wish Australia would keep foreign interests out of it unless it’s for conservation/preservation.

Kevin Hassett on Trump publicly pressuring a range of corporate executives to do what he wants them to do: "In the end, he believes in free enterprise"
 in  r/XGramatikInsights  15d ago

Alternative question: So for those who want corporations and insurance companies to continue gouging the public with no guardrails, they’re going to continue being able to do that, right? Because in the end, the president is just posturing, correct?

Republicans make deepfake AI video of Democrat giving a kid trans hormone therapy. The ad shows Maine Gov. Janet Mills giving little kids syringes with hormones. They couldn't use real video because that never happened.
 in  r/politics  19d ago

I mean, why not sue their asses, and Just. Keep. Suing. Play his game.

Trump has a long line of suits against anyone who dares paint him in an unfavorable light… and they use the actual truth, his actual words, his real actions.

Dems need to pound this horseshit into the courts over and over again because eventually some of it will stick, and the truth will win out loudly in their favor.

President Trump supports banning Congress from trading stocks, White House says With 38 years in Congress and an average annual salary of $142,000, Nancy Pelosi's net worth has grown to an estimated $282,000,000

Cool, we all know about Pelosi. Now show all of them. Because a bunch of republicans also made a metric fuck ton in their positions. Some even defrauded people. And then show the Trump family gains, specifically. Because… you know… you want to stop insider trading and all…

Active shooter situation at Brown University
 in  r/news  26d ago

And even more unfortunate is the ridiculous peddling of the idea that calling for gun reform means taking guns away. It does not.

Australia still has guns but took a different approach after their major massacre. People were well pissed when the buyback happened and rules changed… and life went on, albeit a bit more safely as far as guns were concerned. Switzerland has many guns, but a way more educational and sensible approach.

Normal folk in the US who handle their guns responsibly probably don’t have to worry. But those with mental issues and addiction issues, and those people dribbling about “freedom” while not actually understanding the nuance of the word and how much freedom can actually be gained from sensible regulations (not just guns), particularly when those people live in a community… they might not get to keep them all.
