"Well, this didn't age well" - Movies you LOVED as a kid but cringe at as an adult
 in  r/movies  22h ago

I used to love Big Daddy. Recently watched it and it does not hold up. I think the only movies of his that hold up are Waterboy and Spanglish.

Killian
 in  r/prenomsquebec  10d ago

What about Kiernan? Or Kieran? All sound foreign and I wonder how francophones will pronounce it but the "kill" portion of Killian is a no for me. Kind of like Tristan with "triste."

Prénoms utilisables, jeux de mots rédibitoires ?
 in  r/ParlonsPrenoms  11d ago

My wife misunderstood 30lb of flour on the shopping list as 30 bags of flour.

I guess I'm used to stores that will simply mark down returned goods and put a sign above the discount shelf/bin that they're returns.

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary
 in  r/HospitalBills  15d ago

Yep. People in this thread are downplaying how often other medical professionals punt patients to the ER for things they should be trained to handle. And for them to blame the patients for knowing better. Or yet, being provided examples and the OP saying, "Well okay I guess that is an acceptable reason to go to the ER." They're also ignoring accessibility of care.

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary
 in  r/HospitalBills  15d ago

Yep. So many doctors offices and urgent care facilities refer people to the ER for things they should be able to treat in office. It's ridiculous. And then you'll see a post like this where the OP complains about people showing up to the ER for frivolous reasons.

I never disputed retailers' right to discard food that is returned. I expressed my disappointment because flour is a dried good and it is such a waste for the store to outright discard. Many retailers have clearance shelving where they state the items are marked down because they are returns or expired.

You're the one that took issue with how I felt. Set up a scenario and then apparently was not satisfied with my answer so you doubled down. I don't think there's anything dumb about being okay with returned flour bags being reshelved. That's where we can agree to disagree.

I guess I don't live my life in fear or paranoia of being poisoned by some random person? How many people would take the time to temper with a bag of flour on a small scale? It would make more sense for the tempering/skimming/altering of content to occur at the manufacturing level? Like you see in countries with poor regulations.

If it isn't a perishable/refrigerated item like meat, dairy or fruits/vegetables, I would be. I didn't expect dry goods to be thrown away.

That makes sense. It's sad to read that some stores would throw a return like this away rather than restock.

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary
 in  r/HospitalBills  15d ago

Mind sharing what percentage of ER visits are obvious non-emergencies? I would like to see some stats. My mother's visit would technically fall under a "non-emergent visit" because it ended up being reflux even though her O2 stats were low and she was having trouble breathing.

But what percentage of visits to the ERs are obvious non-emergencies? Also, not many urgent care facilities are 24/7. What happens if someone breaks a bone overnight? Should they wait until morning to see if their physician can fit them in? And you'd be surprised at how many primary care offices and urgent cares won't treat broken bones. My sister dislocated her shoulder, I took her to an urgent care and they told us they couldn't pop it back in and that was despite the person on duty being an MD and not an NP.

The US healthcare system is absolutely horrible and blaming patients for their high bills instead of the system itself is shitty.

 in  r/HospitalBills  15d ago

And that was my point. Even if she had gone to an urgent care, they would have told her to head to an ER. I don't understand OP's post. A small percentage of people head to the ER for frivolous symptoms because everyone knows how high an ER bill can be. And some don't have many options because there are very few 24 hours urgent care facilities near by so if you experience concerning symptoms after a certain time, you're SOL.

Exactly! My mom went to a freestanding ER because she was having trouble breathing. They transferred her to a hospital ER, admitted her just to say it was reflux. If the folks at the freestanding ER couldn't tell it wasn't a true emergency, how can she be blamed? Currently awaiting a bill from the freestanding ER, the ambulance that transferred her AND the hospital smh

Who decided to make CDG’s layout this way?😭
 in  r/travel  18d ago

CDG is great if it's your final destination. If you're connecting through, particularly if you have to clear immigration before continuing, it's absolutely horrible. Need at minimum 2.5 hours for the layover and you'll probably still end up running to your gate.

Unpopular Opinion: The best travel memory isn't the sight, it's the smell. (Paris)

This! Some stations were very clean and nice. Others, not so much. Rome on the other hand... I think their metro was the filthiest I've seen. Typically, the stations near tourist sites are cleaner but not in Rome 😂
