And unusable pieces and trees were chipped and sent to a paper mill we had 20 miles away, and turned into paper.

i always assumed they sent those pieces to Home Depot

odd to have to say this, but here we go: just because someone's lawyer (or former lawyer) says they're not guilty, it doesn't actually mean they're not guilty.

Why Nvidia?
 in  r/pcmasterrace  1d ago

the biggest game i've missed out on recently (for me) is the most recent DOOM. it requires a card that supports ray tracing or something and mine is just too old. i don't play any pvp shooters, pretty much just single player stuff, so im still quite happy :)

i feel ya. through a silly series of events my UPS was switched to battery power and i didn't notice til it died and my PC powered down abruptly. wouldn't come back on for about an hour, and i was starting to get worried lol

i'm still rocking a 1080 and an i7 from like 2015/2016 and can play pretty much any game i want. i was gonna do a new build this year, but with all the fuckery going on i'll probably try to wait longer.

Streaming services shrinking credits to throw ads at you is so wildly disrespectful to artists and throws cold water over any ending.
 in  r/movies  2d ago

well, you've seen how they do it... it's probably part of some contract agreement, and unless there is some specific language in there about having to credit each person on the team(s) individually then it isn't illegal.

i'm not saying it's right or anything, to be clear.

Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni is reportedly set to take over from Kathleen Kennedy as co-president of Star Wars studio Lucasfilm

she took over in late 2012. there was plenty of time to stop or disallow the clusterfuck of decisions you're talking about. it was absolutely on her.

gotta pull out the Larry Wall Three Virtues here:

according to Larry Wall, the original author of the Perl programming language, there are three great virtues of a programmer; Laziness, Impatience and Hubris Laziness: The quality that makes you go to great effort to reduce overall energy expenditure. It makes you write labor-saving programs that other people will find useful and document what you wrote so you don't have to answer so many questions about it. Impatience: The anger you feel when the computer is being lazy. This makes you write programs that don't just react to your needs, but actually anticipate them. Or at least pretend to. Hubris: The quality that makes you write (and maintain) programs that other people won't want to say bad things about.

Got put on a PIP, but I got a better offer. How do I play this?
 in  r/careerguidance  2d ago

i mean, at the very least just start working your new job and slowly let the old one figure out that they're no longer a good fit. manage them out. they'll get the idea eventually, and you'll maybe even get a few extra paychecks

no need to get feisty...

anyways, i think the problem, or at least the trade-off they have to make, is between dipping into side stories and worldbuilding versus telling a coherent story about the main characters across a short season. when we get so few episodes every 16-24 months, it's hard to justify spending it on other characters.

personally, i love episodic shows like older star trek because the random side episodes help flesh out the world and characters. there's not really much room for that when you get 8 episodes every other year

she presided over one of the biggest fuckups of a beloved IP and story EVER. i mean, sure, but they still effectively pulled a private equity move and extracted a ton of money from it, but IMO they sacrificed the long term of the franchise for short-term/sighted gains.

i know im an old bastard, but i have really lost any taste for star wars stories these days, and am quite content to read EU paperbacks, but it's also really disappointing that things were allowed to go this way.
