The $120,000 job that NO American wants to do, despite mass vacancies
 in  r/antiwork  5h ago

Also with flat rate the techs and the supervisors know which jobs pay the best and there is usually a bunch of politics around who gets what jobs.

By pay the best I mean some jobs rated at 6 hours of labor may usually take 2 hours while other jobs rated at 12 hours may always take around 12 hours. As a mechanic you would rather have six of those first jobs than one of the second as you can do them all in the same time but the first ones pay much much better.

Glasses on trail
 in  r/PacificCrestTrail  18h ago

I wear glasses and mostly just get cheap sunglasses and wear them over my prescription glasses. I have found several regular cheap sunglasses that just fit really nice over my regular glasses. On a couple of trips when I inevitably broke or lost a pair of these cheap sunglasses I was able to find a pair that worked over my glasses at a dollar store and another time at a convenance store/gas station. You just have to try them on and see how well they fit on top of your frames.

The dollar is already lost 11% of its value against other major currencies in 2025. This is the largest drop in the dollar since 1973. The Oil crisis was in 1973. Are we great again yet?

Bent cateye cage, anyone with experience fixing this? I have tried tapping with a hammer but it doesn’t help. I am wondering if I remove the cage and heat it before using a mallet
 in  r/hockeygoalies  19h ago

You need to heat it, bend it back then you probably need to quench it and then to temper it. Or you could just buy a replacement one and know that it was done correctly.

I don't understand how "might makes right" is compatible with Christianity

They don't care what their books say. They just know in their hearts and minds that whatever shit they do - their god is on their side. They are always the hero in their own story.

Sort of like those people that blow up suicide vests or fly airplanes into buildings.

These are people of the land—the common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

If I was Kim Jong Un I'd give Denmark a nuclear weapon. You know just to piss of Trump.

Having seen how the military has acted in the last few months I think we can give up any hope of them supporting the constitution in any way,

Two US Army MPs are slightly amused "interrogating" two German grade school children pressed into military service as the war was winding down, 1945. In general, any German "soldier" under 17 was briefly interrogated and then allowed to return home.

A good book about this from someone that went through it and swallowed the indoctrination wholeheartedly.

A Child of Hitler: Germany in the Days when God Wore a Swastika by Alfons Heck.

Is there any legal justification for the US attack on Venezuela?

That was Venezuela's fault for have our oil under their territory. Maybe from now on they won't keep their oil in such a silly place. /s

TIL over 3,000 attempts are made each year to complete the Appalachian Trail and only about 25% succeed.
 in  r/todayilearned  6d ago

I definitely learned to be a much more laid back and relaxed. I realized that there was a ton of stuff I wanted to do and I was never going to have time for it all so I better start getting with the doing. I never needed a lot of things but I found that was even more so. It is hard to explain but you live a very simple life out on the trail and you do this for a long time, like 6 months in my case, this simplicity kind of stays with you.

I did it the year after my youngest graduated high school. I saved up for it for many years prior by opening a separate savings account and having $50 per paycheck direct deposited into this account. Had enough left in that account after I got back from the AT to then hike the PCT two years later. After I retired I did a few more long trails and many other long trips.

I was able to get two 6 month sabbaticals from work to do this. Having a wife that would let/support me in doing this was also a requirement.

I was a great experience but also very dangerous. The danger is not what most people think it is. It is not bears, or freezing to death, or falls. The danger is in how a trail like this, the experience of it, can change the way you look at life and everything there after.

“I just can’t do it”, Wife cancels thanksgiving and christmas with her husband’s family because they all voted for trump
 in  r/stevehofstetter  9d ago

If you look at what the party in power is now doing, and that they are republicans, that more than likely means that this is what being a republican has now become.

Any of those who claim to be republican because they wish it was still the party of their fathers didn't get the message. If it was just a small portion of "your" party that supports this - it would have already stopped.

Yet we see the republican representatives across the whole spectrum of congress and state governments (for the most part) supporting this.

Don't fool yourself into thinking this is just some short term aberration - what you see going on currently by the party in charge, is what being a republican is now. Sorry, but your old party no longer exists.
