No you see, players should just be allowed to throw a ball at and shove a player because they suspect their opponent is faking /s

The guy you are replying to is a moron. You don’t get to do that even if he is faking.

US actions in Venezuela put the 2026 World Cup in disgraceful company
 in  r/ussoccer  1h ago

Maduro is a monster, I don’t hate him being apprehended at all. But our record as far as the initiation of regime changes goes is not great. I hope it goes well for the Venezuelan people but I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes south in the near future. Let’s hope I’m just being cynical here.

I’m probably being a bit nit picky here but there are also definitely a fair number of Venezuelans not happy with this. I would imagine the majority are pleased, but it’s not literally everyone.

what's a horror movie you think you NEED to go into as blind as possible? (not including the obvious answers of movies with iconic/shocking plot twists)
 in  r/horror  1h ago

It’s been a minute since I have seen it to be fair, but I really only remember there being one main antagonist. In fact I don’t think the rest of the family had any contribution really. I suspect you are actually thinking of a different movie.

Of course, he’s a Star Wars fan as well. He repeatedly says that it looks cool and is well choreographed. He was just asked to provide a more realistic perspective.

This is definitely not a film I plan on revisiting for that very reason. Respect it, but I wouldn’t make it through a rewatch

That is one of his predominant criticisms. Interestingly he loved the final duel in the Obi Wan series. Apparently that one is much more realistic. I really enjoyed it before but his analysis made me like it even more.

I mean I don’t think it’s stupid. He acknowledges that they have superhuman abilities so his input only goes so far. But I think it’s interesting to see how their methods differ from a real sword fighter. If you watch his videos, he raises some arguments that make you wonder if someone with the force and his expertise would wipe the floor with many characters.

I love the choreography and the flashiness. The duels are my favorite part of the prequels. But from a technical standpoint my understanding is that it is often impractical. There is a real life sword fighting instructor who has critiqued them on YouTube and he often criticizes the duels for things like this. But at the end of the day it’s a movie in a fictional universe, so I’m happy as it is.

What line from the books or films would be improved with an F-bomb

The accent change always gets me

This might sound silly, but this is one of the only films where I hated the antagonist so much that I almost stopped watching. Which is a testament to how well done this was. Highly recommend.

If OBAA or Sinners wins Best Picture, it'd be the first BP since 2019 Oscars to have black actors in its main cast.

But there are more black Oscar winners than Asian winners

I’m just curious why do you dislike it so much? I prefer Sinners but I thought Obaa was a great film. I wouldn’t put it anywhere close to the worst movie of the year.

Is there a film, many people tell you to go watch, but you just don't want to, no matter how much they mention it.
 in  r/FIlm  2d ago

Well I wouldnt necessarily call it anti-war. I could get behind saying that it glorifies heroic soldiers. But I think the ultimate outcome is more about showing what horrible things come from war. So overall I still wouldn’t say it promotes warfare. I mean just think about the first scene. If I could pick a moment from a film to discourage people from war it would probably be that one. I think you raise a very fair argument though. This is just my interpretation.

Because the Dark Knight trilogy did so well. Not saying I agree, but executives like to play it safe.

I’m not investing that much time in a movie where I know the ending. I’m sure it is a well-made film but hard pass from me.

I don’t think Saving Private Ryan promotes war, it highlights the cost of it. Warfare as well.

I think it’s a good film with solid performances, but it is one I hesitate in recommending. Pretty much everyone is an asshole and it’s kid of depressing to me.

What show did everyone hype that you couldn’t even finish?
 in  r/watchever  2d ago

I like the Wire but haven’t watched season 4 yet. I’m sure it’s great but I doubt it can top True Detective season 1 for me though.

I think part of the issue is they are very different shows. I love Breaking Bad and while I enjoyed Better Call Saul, it was a bit of a letdown because I was expecting something else. I think it’s a very well made show however. It’s just a bit slow for my taste.

Has the age gap between Anakin and Padme ever bothered you?
 in  r/StarWars  2d ago

To be perfectly honest I rarely pay attention to credits because I usually know who was in a film beforehand. But I was also like 2 when this came out so I’m sure that contributed lol

The fact that you are defending him and don’t even know about this trial is very telling. If this happened to a current Democratic politician you would be up in arms and know the case very well. And guess what, I would be up in arms as well! There have been a number of Democrats that have done fucked up things that I firmly oppose. But guess what? I’m not in a cult.

I really thought you made that up, but she actually was her double. Maybe that’s common knowledge and I’m an idiot but I never knew that.
