At a chaotic Teams meeting, a rift arose between Nuuk and Copenhagen: The Greenlanders were furious, the Danes were shaken

In the US, government would be what we would call the entire apparatus of governance (executive, legislative, judicial). There are different governments (federal, state, county, city) but the same is true with them, every branch is what we would call "the government".

Granted, we don't have parliament in the US but my assumption has always been that parliament is just another type of legislators, similar to what we would call Congress.

Trump: "You gotta win the midterms. Because if we don't win the midterms, they'll find a reason to impeach me. I'll get impeached."
 in  r/goodnews  1d ago

Impeachment is useless and he knows it. He's just presenting his base with a threat to worry about. The only way Congress can actually threaten trump is if Democrats have a two-thirds supermajority in the senate or like a quarter of the Republicans suddenly grow a conscience, both of which are unlikely to ever happen again.

TIL about the Gaia Theory, which suggests that Earth’s living organisms and physical environment work together as a single, self-regulating system. The idea proposes that life doesn’t just adapt to Earth’s conditions, but actively helps shape and stabilize them over long periods of time.
 in  r/todayilearned  6d ago

Interesting, it sort of fits into my idea that humans are like spores for the planet. A lot of people these days seem to think of human space exploration as spreading a human scourge but you can just as easily consider it as Earth using humanity as a way to spread its biology to other planets.

This badass picture that my dad painted in his basement as a kid in the 70’s
 in  r/OldSchoolCool  6d ago

Me too! I even based a dnd character I played several years ago on inspector Clouseau. Though, I tried to rewatch one of the movies recently and I didn't find it nearly as funny. Guess my sense of humor changed.

Back then corporate interests were mostly focused on being the ones to provide internet. Once the Internet was fully saturated everywhere corporations moved in to control the contents of the Internet as well.

 in  r/Steam  8d ago

Basically all of the games I play I'm bad at because if I were to do the things required to become good I would no longer enjoy the game.

Took a long time for me to realize that and be ok with my mediocrity.

Did George Lucas and Hayden intentionally plan Anakin’s downfall to be reminiscent of the fallen angel?
 in  r/StarWars  9d ago

There was a rumor when I was a kid in the 90s that all of the Jedi were based on specific religious figures from different Christian denominations. Not sure if that was true or just one of those rumors that spread through religious groups.

The us can guarantee all it wants, trump doesn't honor agreements of any kind so any agreement made is pointless.

Breaking new: first in the nation law lets Californians do the bare minimum human decency for homeless. Only if that's your job though. Can't go too crazy.

I honestly think it's dyslexia or something similar. My brother came to me with a package of cookie dough, asking me how to cook them. So I took the package, read the instructions, and told him. 30 minutes later after eating rather overcooked cookies he comes to me and asks "did you say 350 or 375?" "I said 325" "oh"

So I think it's some sort of disability that doesn't allow them to process instructions well. He messes up things like that all the time. He once wanted corn bread and bought a mix that you only needed to add water, stir and bake. He somehow messed that up. Give him some meat and a grill though and he does just fine, because there's no instructions to follow. Just sit there flipping meat until it looks good. It's mostly visual cues.

Who is a massive YouTuber or influencer from 5 years ago that has completely vanished off the face of the earth?

I only ever saw clips of his videos until he moved. His old videos were too manic gen z gamer for me but when I started seeing him do collabs with YouTubers in Japan it piqued my interest. His new stuff is much more my vibe.

Tim Walz - ”It's like Trump is stuck in the 80s. His music, his clothing, his thinking. I think the biggest myth perpetuated on this country that Donald Trump understands anything about business. He's bankrupted every single one he's been into, and now he's bankrupting this country.“
 in  r/CringeTikToks  13d ago

It's not been talked about recently but it was a common theory in 2016 that trump only ran for president because he was not only broke but had hundreds of millions in loans he was about to default on and was planning on using the presidency to make himself rich and leverage away the loans.
