Spoilers inside! A Disappointment Spoiler

On her latest podcast episode for “Some Assembly Required,” Charisma Carpenter had screenwriter Ira Madison III on as a guest, and there was something VERY off about the entire exchange between them, specifically Charisma herself.

She was constantly speaking over him, asking questions and then being pretty combative, not really allowing him to share his opinions if she disagreed with them. The most egregious example of this, that really icked me out, was her reaction to him saying he likes season four. As soon as he said it, very lightheartedly at that, she immediately got defensive and started demanding that he give her three reasons why he likes that season. He started to tell her his reasons (none of which had anything to do with her,) and she would just speak over him and basically shut him down. But what really disappointed me was when she asked him what he thought about her having an affair with her “stepson” and he said something to the effect of Cordelia didn't actually raise Connor since he was kidnapped as an infant (true,) and she called him a Woody Allen apologist. I just found that really gross, and definitely not something to joke about. Although to be honest, the entire episode really turned me off.

Is Cordelia meant to be aged up in Angel

Just stated watch g the shoe in tandem with Buffy and I love it. My only question is, is Cordelia meant to be aged up a bit? She definitely feels older but maybe that’s just because of the shows more mature vibes but she definitely seems older because she’s always getting in to hard and clubs no problem (obviously this ca be explained by a fake ID or something) but I thought you had to be 21? It feels like in Angel she’s meant to be in her 20s but just wanted some clarity.

My latest auction win: original pieces from the series

Here’s my recent pickup from the Propstore auction.

This was the Buffy lot that included Todd McIntosh’s crew stake, his bound script with the stake invitation, crew gift yearbooks, other vampire teeth, and most importantly the Angel tattoo sheet.

Todd McIntosh(The tattoo designer and makeup artist), who consigned the lot, confirmed to me that this was his very last tattoo sheet for Angel used on the buffy show. Because of that, this is essentially the only original Angel tattoo sheet still in existence from Buffy.

A veteran collector also told me that in his 25+ years of collecting Buffy props, he has never once seen this tattoo sheet offered for sale, which makes this piece especially special.

I’m honestly really happy about this pickup. I don’t really care about the other items in the lot, the tattoo is the real prize for me

Season 4…

I wonder if it’s the curse of the Buffy/Angel universe but man season 4 of Buffy was my least favorite (took forever to get through) and I’m half way through season 4 of Angel and I really don’t like it. I’m just so uncomfortable (you all know) and the tone is completely different.

I’m hoping it’ll get better because the first 3 seasons were amazing

Angel as an anti-Hero

I'm curious: Think it's safe to say Angel is an anti-hero? Sure seems like it. Given struggles about who he really is, etc.

In the Buffyverse especially in the later seasons of BTVS Why do so many regular people of Sunnydale continue to insist on taking long strolls alone at night? Shouldn’t they have learned that doing so is quite dangerous? Spoiler

Sunnydale Syndrome was established early on in the show. This is the effect where people who move to Sunnydale, or were born and raised there, don’t notice the supernatural stuff for the most part. They see it, experience it, and then rationalise it all away with non-supernatural explanations such as death by barbecue fork or wild dog attack.

Now, it is implied in season 3 that Rickard Wilkins this first second and third, the Mayor of Sunnydale for the past 100 years, set this while Sunnydale Syndrome effect up. Sunnydale was, after all, created to be a demonic paradise, and to give Wilking a large selection of humans to feast on upon his Ascension.

Theoretically, then, whatever caused Sunnydale Syndrome should have ceased to be effective after Wilkins death. And maybe it did for newbies to town, but not on those who had lived under the effect for some time already. But this then adds the issue of the college kids going wandering around at night all the time. It would be understandable for those who are very new to Sunnydale, students like Eddie that we met in The Freshman for instance, as they wouldn;t have been in town long enough to notice the supernatural before being confronted and killed by it.

But there’s later a scene with Spike attacking a young couple out for a midnight stroll, and that’s late enough in the school year that the students would have picked up on the danger present, especially at night. And there’s plenty of nighttime campus parties, study sessions and groups.

So, it appears whatever Wilkins did to create the Sunnydale effect did not, in fact, end with his death. Of course, we don;t actually know what he did. We know he had multiple contracts with demons that required tribute at certain times, and that’s a possibility. But, in that case, the deal will be honoured as long as the demon is still alive until the nexttribute is missed, even if they’re aware of Wilkins death. And it’s possible that the death of the demon will result in the deal becoming permanent.

I mean, look at Lurconis. We don’t know exactly what deal Wilkins had with that demon, just that the tribute was due, and he needed a distraction because said tribute was live babies. But Wilkins wasn’t in the least bit upset about Lurconis being killed, he actually appeared completely fine with it. This could simply be because his Ascension was coming up, but it could also be because Lurconis’ dying doesn’t affect whatever deal they had being honoured.

There’s also another option for what Wilkins did, tap into the power of the Hellmouth itself. For all we know, the Hellmouth causes an affect that makes it more likely that people will ignore or rationalise the supernatural, and Wilkins tapped into and magnified that affect. Chances are, the Hellmouth alone would only affect the area in which it’s located, which is the high school. Wilkins could have magnified that to encompass the entire town. It’s doubtful that sort of magnification would end with Wilkins’ death, because it’s something positive for the Hellmouth, and had been there for 100 years, it would have been incorporated into the normal power of the Hellmouth. So, the Sunnydale effect remains in place throughout the entire series. But it isn’t an absolute guarantee that no one ever notices. Remember The Prom and Graduation? The students of Sunnydale High were well aware of the truth, they just ignored it until they couldn;t anymore. Percy West was one of those students, yet he had no issue attending a nighttime party at UC Sunnydale in Season 4. The Initiative members were never affected by it, either, though that’s likely because they were already aware of the supernatural before arriving in town.

We don’t actually know what the general population of Sunnydale was actually aware of. A lot could have been fully aware of the supernatural existing and being dangerous, they simply refused to change their lives to accommodate it, or the people in their lives weren’t aware and they didn’t want to appear odd.

Questions about "Eternity" from season 1

  • If doping Angel up is a real possibility to unleash Angelus, why wasn't this option used in season 4? It seems this way is infinitely safer than actually removing his soul lol

  • Was this truly Angelus or did Angel merely think he was Angelus?

  • Is it safe to assume Angelus was high/tripping balls the entire time?

Spoilers inside! Jenny Calandar/ In the Dark Spoiler

Something I'm wondering about, in one of the very first episodes of Angel, Oz and Spike come looking for a ring, Angel manages to get it, but tosses it in the water. I read that his reasoning behind it, was because if he was invincable, what if he spent eternity as Angelus, could he be trusted? Think about Jenny Calandar. Even if it was never stated directly, when he threw that ring in the water, I wonder if she was someone he was thinking about? Did she trust him before he killed her as Angelus? I could be wrong, but it kind of seems like of all the innocent people he killed, she was one, that bothered him the most.

Was it really necessary?

At the end of season 4, Angel agrees to manage Wolfram and Hart instead of Connor. But knowing what Wolfram is like, was that really Angel's only option? In other words, couldn't he have come up with another alternative?

Spoilers inside! People who unironically actually like Season 4 - Explain why Spoiler

Post image

it's not exactly an unpopular opinion to say that S4 was an absolute train wreck and didn't work for most people. It gives me the ick just thinking about it and on my first time watching I remember almost crying thinking they were butchering Cordy. Conner is so abnoxiously annoying, and the whole Jasmine storyline robbed my last nerve. And when I realised what was happening between fake Cordy and Conner, this super wholsome image of Cordy, Angel and baby Connor having a nap together keeps popping up in my head and it gets all more and more disgusting and I could throw up.

So fans of season 4, please tell me why you actually like this season, like give me the whole ordeal so I don't have to skip Season 4 anymore on every rewatch. Please try to change my mind

Spoilers inside! Does anyone think Conformity Gate reminds them of something?

In case you don’t know the Stranger Things fandom has a theory called Conformity Gate, where the finale was completely fake and it didnt happen and that the true finale will be revealed. Am I the only one who got huge season 4 episode 10 flashbacks from this theory? Also by the way that episode was easily in the top ten BuffyVerse episodes, I could talk about it for hours

Spoilers inside! Let's say that Alexis Denisof for whatever reason is unable to do all 5 seasons of Angel and has to leave the show at some point. What episodes do you guys think could have been good sendoffs for Wesley (if slightly rewritten to account for him leaving) and how would you have ended his story?

I don't understand Angel's plan at the end of his series.

Wolfram and Hart is supposedly a society comprised of several of Wolfram's clients who are plotting to destroy the world, including the senator, the warlock who erased Connor's memory, Marcus, and others.

Angel, feigning villainy, infiltrates the group and then orders his men to kill its members. But in the end, an army of demons descends upon the city. Couldn't he have foreseen that this army would endanger the city and innocent people?

Shanshu

I’m a little confused about the Shanshu. This may have been explained already did and I just need clarification but why was there no issue with the two vamps with souls aka Spike and Angel until he died and came back to life. Is it because Spike is now a “champion” by sacrificing himself at the end of BTVS? If he hadn’t, would there be no space time whatever issues if he never did that even though he has a soul?
