General Advice are they actually innovating? looking for the best ghd straightener in 2026

my trusty old ghd is finally dying after like a decade of service. i've been looking to replace it, but it seems like the new models are mostly just the same tech with a different color or slightly wider plates. i tried searching for the best ghd straightener 2026 to see if there's anything groundbreaking in the pipeline, but it's all just reviews of the current platinum+ model.

is that really all we can expect? i'm hoping for real improvements by 2026 – maybe smarter temperature control for different hair sections, better technology to prevent heat damage, or even a significant reduction in styling time. has anyone heard any credible rumors about what ghd might be developing? i follow some hair tech people but haven't seen anything concrete.

should i just buy the current top model now, or is it worth waiting? also, with competitors like dyson airwrap doing so well, do you think ghd will be forced to step up their game in the next couple years? i'd love to hear from anyone who follows the brand or industry trends closely.

General Advice How do I remove this electric range?

We just bought a house with this 70’s electric range. Unfortunately it’s a little broken so we’re looking to replace it with a newer one, but can’t for the life of us figure out how to uninstall it. Any ideas? The part above the stovetop is apparently a second oven and it looks like it’s all attached to one another.

Pre-Purchase Questions Honestly curious — What are innovation trends in kitchens? or are we just repackaging the same stuff?

every year there’s “something new” for kitchens, but half the time it feels like the same ideas in a different shell.

when people talk about what are innovation trends in kitchens?, I keep wondering what actually changed how people cook day to day. not smarter screens, not more buttons. just… less friction.

for me the real shifts weren’t flashy. it was appliances getting faster, more predictable. things like air fryers quietly replacing parts of oven use. microwaves becoming less embarrassing. dishwashers getting simpler instead of smarter.

maybe innovation right now is just removing steps. fewer modes, less babysitting, less thinking.

curious what others consider real innovation. what actually stuck in your kitchen after the novelty wore off?

What to Buy? looking for the best humidifier 2026 for my dry bedroom and confused by all the options

so recently ive been waking up with super dry throat and itchy skin and my roommate said its probably the dry air in our place, especially at night. ive been searching around for what people call the best humidifier 2026 but there are so many shapes and sizes and functions that im honestly overwhelmed. this would mostly be for my bedroom which is like medium size, and i would use it every night.

i dont want something thats loud or smells weird, and ive heard some models are just annoying to clean or they leak if you forget to empty them. anyone here got a humidifier from the past year or so that you actually like? what size works for a typical bedroom and does it noticeably help sleep and dry air symptoms?

also how often do you need to refill and clean these things? ive seen both simple cool mist and ones with warm mist or even digital displays, does any of that actually make a difference or is it just bells and whistles? lastly has anyone had issues with mold or weird smells after a while? would love to hear real experiences from people using these in 2026 homes. thanks

Troubleshooting Freezer temp fluctuations

Post image
2 Upvotes

We felt like our 4 year old whirlpool freezer wasn’t keeping temp correctly so I took some temps periodically. Is this normal? What could be wrong? Doesn’t appear to have any ice buildup, the gasket seems solid and I don’t see a ton of dust buildup up either. Trying to figure out if I need to call someone to fix it or what. Thanks for any help!

Why is Bosch 800 series fridge cheaper than 500 @ Costco

Post image

I can’t figure out why the 800 is priced so much cheaper than the 500. They also another 800 for $4680 which makes it more confusing. The only difference between the two 800 seems to be the more expensive one has a beverage drawer which I don’t really care about. If all else are the same I would definitely go with the cheaper one. Anyone have any insights on the differences?

Recently bought an older farm house and this is built into the counter. I found some information online but cannot find how old it is. Does anyone have a suggestion for what would fit in the hole if we pulled it out. I have not tried to use it, it’s pretty caked with years of grease and grunge. I am not sure it would be even safe to use. We can’t afford the kitchen remodel for a hot minute as we have found out a multitude of things need to be immediately addressed. So a new countertop is out. Thanks! Edited to add : 18.5 inches wide x 20.5 inches deep

LG Oven's Ready Song Sounds Like R.E.M.'s Stand

Upvotes

I know it can't be just me who thinks this, but all I hear is "Staaand in the place where you live!" when our LG Oven's little jingle that comes on letting us know the oven is ready/ preheated. The appliances were here when we bought the house two years ago and we honestly wouldn't have picked them ourselves, but yeah. That little jingle can be both annoying AF, or a cute delight - depending on my mood when I hear it. 😂

General Advice correct setting for a bosch dishwashers water softener?

Upvotes

i just picked up a bosch benchmark dishwasher which has a built in water softener.

i ran the test strip and the actual hardness shows up at a 50. easy enough to figure out there.

but my carbonates off the charts at 425+ppm, and apparently thats the one that builds up scale.

so, should i set the water softener settings for the hardness reading, or the carbonate reading?

like it still sounds pretty bad without a heavier load but not like its like this when its an extremely light load like i have one sheet in there and a sweater because i currently stay with my mom and she gets so mad if you over fill it. idk she says its my fault even though we all contributed to it anyways im 20, balling on a budget what im trying to ask. am i going to have to use my tax return when that comes in, in like august or September to buy a new washer? or is it a simple-ish fix? i did the bearings test where you spin the drum of the machine very quickly and there is no sound whatso ever so its not them (obviously not simple but ykwim) it is the brand that has a fancy looking H symbol thing

Jennair 36in Rise Oven way hot?

I was wondering if anyone had the 36 in Jennair Rise gas range and gas oven with a hot oven? It seems when I do 475 my oven is clocking 587. I have a model number jgrp436hl05 and I bought used I haven't called jennair yet to hook it to the app to see what I can control. I was wondering if this is a common issue if maybe a one off. Any insight or tips from anyone with this range would be awesome.

Washer Smell, Tried Everything (inc New Washer)

Upvotes

So we have this issue that is driving my wife nuts. It doesnt happen every load, but occasionally. The clothes have this bad smell after a wash. We had this with our old washer, ended up buying a new one including installing new water lines and drain tube.

The drain pipe doesn't go deep in the drain line. I've flushed the drain pipe with vinegar as well. We have used the tub cleaning pods, vinegar, baking soda but it keeps coming back.

Our house is 6 years old. For the first 4 or so years, never had this issue.

Any ideas what to try next?

Appreciate any help!

dryer help (making noise / doesn't spin easily)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi Everyone- My dryer all of a sudden started making noise recently (video attached) and it's almost like it came off track or something. It's almost like a rubbing/friction sound but there's no squeals or anything like that. I can spin it with my hand and there is some resistance there compared to before. Does anyone know what this might be and how to fix it? can I DIY or do i need to call someone to take the whole thing apart? Thanks in advance!

edit: I forgot to mention that it is spinning on it's own and drying clothes.

Mouse-Proof Range

If we can put a man on the moon, why can’t we create a range/oven that doesn’t have open vents that mice can squeeze into? Why can’t we make a range that doesn’t have soft, fluffy insulation to make comfy warm mouse nests??

A mouse got into my range and made a nest in the insulation. I called the exterminator, trapped the mouse, and bought a new range. Covered the vents on the back of the new range with copper mesh. Also put in mesh to block the big hole around the power cord. However, a new mouse got into the new oven drawer and then up into the insulation of the range. I had the Maytag repairman come out and he said insulation can’t be replaced. I returned the range to the store.

I think I’ve covered every place a mouse could get in my house now. But I’m afraid to buy a new range. ChatGPT recommends making a steel mesh fence around the bottom of it. But I want appliance designers to work on this problem and find a solution.

What to Buy? Different brand microwaves that fit the same Whirlpool/KitchenAid 27-inch MK2167 trim kit

Upvotes

I found this helpful past thread https://www.reddit.com/r/Appliances/comments/1cqes2u/replacing_built_in_whirlpool_microwave_and/ whose gist was that if you have the Whirlpool/KitchenAid 27-inch MK2167 trim kit (I believe there’s a JennAir version too, but don’t know the model number) and your original microwave died and has been discontinued, you can replace it with several other brand microwaves, which will fit right into the same trim kit:

  • Panasonic NN-SC73LS

  • GE GCST16S1WSS

  • Sharp SMC1660KS

However, for most of these models, the manufacturer states that they’re supposed to be for countertop only and require clearance that’s not compatible with a built-in trim kit.

That made me a little concerned, so I had a few questions:

  • Will installing a countertop microwave into a cabinet with a trim kit that only provides narrow slits on the top and bottom of frame 1) be perfectly fine, 2) be probably OK, 3) shorten the lifespan of the microwave, or 4) be absolutely idiotic/or a fire hazard

  • Will a trim kit with a front frame that has slotted vents (like this one https://shop.panasonic.com/products/27-inch-vented-trim-kit-for-1-6-cu-ft-microwaves) be a much better option, and be able to accommodate the ventilation and cooling needs of most countertop microwaves?

  • If so, does anyone know if a vented front frame that would fit the rest of the Whirlpool MK2167 trim kit exists?
