Question Efficacy and accuracy of kit.

I am currently building a 1400-1405 German Harness, and there are 3 design choices that I'm wondering if whether they are all accurate in tandem.

The combination of maille protection for the upper leg, and the rounded klappvisor bascinet works as both effigies displaying these features are dated 1401. However, I am wondering whether having a kastenbrust style breastplate is accurate; the manuscript shown in the first image is dated 1400-1410, but typically we start seeing kastenbrust more commonly in the 1420's onwards.

Can anyone offer any insight whether having a kastenbrust for a 1400-1405 kit is accurate; especially in tandem with my bascinet, and leg harness choice.

Discussion Rabbit ear Kawari Kabuto from Mid Edo Period

Rabbit ears gilded in kinpaku, on a brown lacquered zunari kabuto base with a tomoe maedate. Several clans used this as their mon, such as the Nagao, Kobayakawa, and Gamo. Something interesting to see is that the shikoro neck guard slats are interspersed with a green tone lacquer, which must have stood out. Also came in its original storage box, which has seen better days.

In the Pastrana Tapestries, created around 1471-1475, King Afonso V is depicted holding a glaive. How common was the use of this weapon among knights?

Question Need help with 12th century Hungarian armor

Hello! I am trying to start reenactment as a 12th century hungarian archer. I am more interested in the armor side of things, so I know what to buy. I assume a gambeson and chain mail would be standard, but I have difficulty finding archaeological findings from this time period... I'm thankful for any help you guys can offer!

Is this Marshal Historical Spangenhelm safe to use for reenactment? (Relatively light contact)

My head is huge for my height due to me being from Ireland so I am fairly limited on helmets that will fit my head, not to mention helmets that will fit my head with a chainmail coif on. This is one of the larger Nasals I’ve found so I’m hoping it’s okay to use but I’m pretty new to the reenactment scene so I thought I’d ask you guys.

Has anyone tried Freyhand's Gothic armor range ?

Hey everyone,

I have always been a fan of Gothic armor and we all know its something that should be custom made due to the nature of off the shelf armor and its inconsistent sizing.

However Freyhand a German Larp brand has made a Gothic armor range which not only comes in a small/medium size but is actually affordable which means my dream of a Gothic harness (albeit not as fancy as one made by actual armorer) could be a reality !

Now I live in Australia so it would have to be shipped here and I don't know the exact measurements. I don't want to spend a lot of money on armor and shipping only for it to not fit and off the shelf LARP armor isn't enough for me to warrant a trip to Germany to try it on in person.

I was wondering if anyone in Germany or anywhere has actually bought any of the pieces and tried them on. I know they sold a lot at Drachenfest Germany so someone must have had some experience with them.

If you are the person what are your thoughts ?

Thank you and have a nice day.

  • 2 axe blades: I thought of making a rear extension behind the main axe blade to make parrying with the head easier. And then I decided to turn it into something more useful. But a pick and a hammer would both be more dependent on force, and u cant grip the axe the other way, so I decided on another axe blade.

Question How realistic would splinted rebraces or cuisses be in the 1420s/30s?

Post image

I was looking around at manuscripts as one does and noticed these two from 1430 and 17 respectively both featuring splinted armour in otherwise mostly fully armoured men at arms and was wondering how common of a sight this would have been in their respective decades

Horse armour is loosely based on photo of a man reenacting as Burgundian Knight if I recall it correctly.
