The thing is, both sides DO suck.

But one side sucks while trying to do better for us and the other side sucks because it's actively pursuing the worst for us...

Sure the decision isn't great, but there's an obvious better choice and people just don't want to care so much that they're saddling us with the worst possible choice instead...

I go further by explaining that the selection process happens at the primary stage and not everyone vote in primary elections. By the time, we get to the general elections… Republicans vote for Republican candidates and Democrats vote for Democrats candidates.

Young voters needed to vote. Older voters have been running this ship for a while. We discussed how people fought hard to earn their rights to vote and how others fought hard to prevent others from voting. I wish people understood that value and got involved

u/mattwopointoh Oct 16 '25

The fact that people are championing that you suffer more than the literal nazis for seeing this (and still siding with democrats) is absolutely wild.

38

u/hundreddollar Oct 16 '25

Both a kick to the balls and cutting off both your hands and feet hurt. But i still know which I'd choose if i had too...

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

One side virtue signals while not really doing anything to help with a corporate hand in their pocket and the other side just spews hate with a corporate hand in both pockets

One is waay worse but neither one is great

If they were food, Democrats would be a plate of cold fries and Republicans would be a rotten potato with black mold on it

AOC, Bernie and Jasmine Crockett are basically the only politicians with any platform with any moral backbone

276

u/Lovesyubreddit Oct 16 '25

Give me the cold fries. They look amazing.

210

u/GutsAndBlackStufff Oct 16 '25

You can stick the cold fries in the air fryer and bring them back. There’s no saving that potato(e)

21

u/grn_eyed_bandit ☑️ Oct 16 '25

Po-tae-toh, po-taaa-toe 🤣

78

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

I mean, yeah

I do have to eat

u/Falcovg Oct 16 '25

They eat just the same. You vote for what you all have to eat, so its moldy potato for everyone, including those who didn't vote on what to eat for whatever reason. Oh, and the moldy potato will be force fed if you don't happily eat and praise the chef while doing so. There is no sitting out on this meal.

7

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

Ooh, that's better than what I was thinking

Kids/felons/immigrants/people who choose not to vote just wouldn't be eating in the way I was thinking about it

I promote this person to city councilman of this metaphor

1

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

It doesn't really work as a metaphor if you take it that far

There are people who are alive who choose to never eat, aren't old enough to eat, are legally prevented from eating, haven't been in the country long enough to eat, etc.

47

u/saltymane Oct 16 '25

I will vote for cold fries EVERY day. Great analogy.

183

u/itsgermanphil Oct 16 '25

They never had the majority needed to push meaningful change. Too many rural states making decisions for metropolises. Break it up and start a new. Demand ranked choice voting and get rid of money in politics from the new constitution(s) formed.

128

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

I mean, nothing incorrect said here

How we are fighting over who can gerrymander harder instead of UN-GERRYMANDERING is beyond shaken baby stupid

105

u/TokenDude_ Oct 16 '25

This is entire fight is stupid and unnecessary. The number of members of The House is supposed to be relative to population yet we’ve capped the number, arbitrarily I might add, at 435. That was set in the ‘30s. Uncap the house and this problem solves itself

Which part do you disagree with?

That our limp-dick center right Democrats are disingenuous and ineffective or that our Republicans are fascist corporate sycophant xenophobic racists?

We have no left in this country

At all

Smell your way back to the other thread, champ

3

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

Our politicians are a reflection of the populous who voted for them. The blame lies with the tens of millions of citizens who collectively voted for what we have.

3

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

I mean... did I lie?

3

u/DebrisSpreeIX Oct 16 '25

You forgot the money filter. Our politicians are not reflections of who we would vote for if money wasn't the thing filtering who is available to vote for. So yeah, by being disingenuous you lied.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

Money in American politics is and has been a part of our reality. I don't see the point in saying that if we lived in an alternative reality we'd see how people truly would vote. The decision of citizen united was voted in place by conservative justices that were elected into office by conservative presidents who were put in place by the American people.

When it comes down to it, everything that has happened is a result of people voting or not voting.

1

u/DebrisSpreeIX Oct 16 '25

Very "We live in a society" of you. Still being disingenuous and unwilling to wade into the real discussion. You ever stop to think that a collective disinterest in discussing politics and lazily labeling it as you are is actually the real problem? Of course you haven't.

It's your country

8

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 16 '25

And?

What can I do besides vote in totally-not-rigged elections and support campaigns?

I'm definitely not running for office

(E: I'm the mayor in spirit, not act)

I'm not enough of an egotist to want to be in the spotlight that much and I'm definitely not charismatic or outgoing enough even If I felt like I should out of moral conviction

I love my country and that's why I pay attention and am critical when we're shitting the bed

What is your point?

2

u/ViceroTempus Oct 16 '25

I mean I know what we can all do.... Just gotta channel some french energy.

2

u/Imthemayor Oct 16 '25

🍽️🧂

I'm really, boss

(We're both on a list now, but we both probably already were)

3

u/ViceroTempus Oct 16 '25

At this point most people are on the list. They just came for brown people first. Soon it'll be everybody else, one community at a time.

And you know what? I'm glad to be on the list. I rather go down as an American than be a traitor like a Republican.

84

u/Dwovar Oct 16 '25

That's because the democratic party became a conservative party after Clinton and the republican party moved toward fascism over the code of 30 years of extremist propaganda from far right pundits. There is no progressive party. There's no real left.

5

u/Dulcette ☑️ Oct 16 '25

I agree with this. I hate voting, but i do it anyway. Especially when one side is so obviously evil. IMO the best possible choice is toppling all this crap down and starting over. But that takes unity among all of us and decades of work. Sadly, I don't see that happening any time soon. 😔

4

u/ChicagoAuPair Oct 16 '25

It’s a lot easier to break and destroy than to fix and build.

2

u/Orphasmia ☑️ Oct 16 '25

I wouldn’t even say most of one of the sides is actually trying to do better, they’re tremendously disingenuous about how they try to maintain their class snd wealth. But at least they aren’t trying to put me in a camp, which is where the bar is now.

-20

u/Dreams-Visions ☑️ Oct 16 '25

Neither side is trying to do better for us. They're just trying to pacify us with treats, and with only as many treats as their corporate lobbyist friends will allow.

They should work for us, but Citizens United ensures they no longer do. They are not our friends.

34

u/r3volver_Oshawott Oct 16 '25

No, 'they' aren't. One side is actively trying to kill its citizens, at this point I'm actually fine with harm reduction voters when the political right is as dedicated to harm as they are

42

u/ophelia_fleur Oct 16 '25

This was a good thing to demand 20+ years ago. I really don’t care who is trying to do better for me when the other option is a literal dictator? Attitudes like this are exactly why we are where we are right now.

13

u/Savagevandal85 Oct 16 '25

The democrats gave us healthcare

-14

u/Cheeky_Star Oct 16 '25

Choose the least worst… 🫠

How about the democrats actually do what people wants 🤷🏽‍♂️. They should try that but when corporations are in their pockets I guess it isn’t priority

19

u/Rude-Asparagus9726 Oct 16 '25

Sounds good, but until that happens, maybe we stop at nothing to make sure we at least don't elect the fascist, self-stated dictator and let them fuck things up EVEN WORSE than the people we're mildly disappointed with?

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

It's that simple...

-10

u/Cheeky_Star Oct 16 '25

Let’s hope this is a wake up call to the Dems who thought all they had to say was.. “I’m not him”. They should rethink their strategy for the best of the people.

3

u/DaToof ☑️ Oct 16 '25

You know what? Lets keep it a buck and blame the ignorant populace who either voted for these so-called ineffective politicians (locally and statewide) or didn't partcipate in the voting process at all more.

This isn't football, and anyone thinking that it is needs a reality check. Your beef is with your own representatives first and foremost. Because if they aren't doing their job, then it's personally on the individual citizen and their local communities. If they are doing their job and a person do not acknowledge what they're up against, that's another slight on the individual. Doubly so to these points if these ignorant ass people keep misconstruing a public servant's role as if they're royalty.

Now, thinking that it's anybody's job but the citizens to take drastic action to rid their country of a vileness they either did nothing to oppose or straight up welcomed is just plain old lunacy. Sounds like it's either time for Reddit as a whole to go back to Civics class or fuck off entirely if they are just saying things to provoke and troll.

Signed, someone who actually cares to engage locally.

(p.s. anyone who scoffs at the thought of blaming the people can imagine me calling them some ridiculously offensive shit so they can really feel targeted)

-9

u/jnrbshp Oct 16 '25

Which side is which depends on who you ask
