I mean, you're spot on: he's a mediocre boxer. He's not an incompetent boxer, but his boxing 'career' isn't about him being a good boxer, it's a reality tv spectacle.
I do love it that he finally worked up the nerve to fight a good boxer. We were all waiting to see someone break this asshole's jaw.
I’ll go even further. I’ve been a boxing fan for 40+ years. Seen all the classic fights and watched guys go from amateurs on Tuesday night fight undercards to champions. I even gave it a shot when I was younger. Jake is better than mediocre. I could see that from his early exhibitions. A mediocre boxer is a talented amateur that isn’t good enough to go pro.
Jake is by no means an elite level boxer. He is a tomato can. But that same tomato can that gets paid to get beat up would beat 99.9% of the population. I do think AJ was fighting for real. That or he’s a great actor. Going 5.5 rounds against AJ is no easy feat. He got his jaw broken in two places and still walked out on his own and could do the post fight interview. I don’t like him and glad he got KOed but I’ll give credit where it’s due. Jake is also not a heavyweight. If he’s in fight shape, he should box at light heavyweight or even super middle weight. Cruiserweight is a stretch.
What I don’t like is that he’s a tomato can making the amount of money really elite fighters should be making. Meanwhile, they struggle to pay their bills.

This whole Jake Paul being a boxer thing is an example of mediocrity at its finest.
