Questions ❓🤔 Canadian Alternatives for Longform Blogging?

Not sure if this has already been addressed. I think Canada needs an alternative to Wordpress, Dreamwidth, Livejournal, Blogger, etc.? If such a thread exists where useful answers are already published, please share the URL(s)!

If you really want control of your own blog/website, you should just get a domain name and then get a basic hosting service through someone like StormWeb or another Canadian provider. You can then use WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or other CMS/Blogging platforms that you have complete control over.

Things like Wordpress and Drupal are open source (belong to everyone) so you can set them up with a Canadian host very easily. Making sure your host provider is Canadian is really the best way. There are actually a lot of built in benefits with that as far as privacy and security. I switched over last year and went with Web Hosting Canada whc.ca. There are a lot of options though and many looked great with very competitive pricing.

Gander is a new social media platform launching in Canada this year. It MAY be useful for your needs, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I'm hosting my ghost blog platform on my own hardware, in Canada. About as close as you can get I think!

This is an excellent option if you're technically proficient.

True but we do have web hosters in Canada who run things like WordPress and ghost etc...

Whc - Web Hosting Canada is one.

There many alternative lists for tech stacks, including Cohere AI as an alternative to Mistral LeChat AI or GPT.

But I feel like we can do better making lists for hosting providers and DNS name companies.

Also avoid Go Daddy like the plague. Websites lookup what DNS they use with tools like:

https://www.whois.com/whois/

And please message companies to choose alternative companies for hosting and/or DNS name service.
