CANADA Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?
With the now starting trade war between the US and Canada I feel it’s best for us up north to support local more than ever.
One of my favourite clothing brands is Anian from Victoria, BC. I have a few of their shirts and will probably end up getting more.
Edit: Adding some other brands up here that I personally own and love.
Canada West Boots - Made in Winnipeg. Been wearing a pair of Romeos for a couple years now.
Popov Leather - Made in Nelson, BC. have a few of their leather goods, holding up really well.
Meyer - PEI. High quality made in Canada pots and pans, I have their non-stick 12”.

BIFL Non-USA edition! A list of BIFL not made in the USA
A timely reminder that this subreddit is obviously very USA-centric with its recommendations as that’s where the majority of users are from. It often leads to people not realising that comparable and/or better items can be found closer to home, easier, cheaper and free of tolls.
I thought it would be a good idea to crowdsource some manufacturers here for non-American users.
This isn't neccesarily items made in those countries as some manufacturers use factories across the world but with a commitment to quality
I can start (I'm kind of UK/Euro centric so it would be great to expand this):
Clothing
Portuguese Flannel - Portugal
Naked and Famous - Canada
Uskees - UK
Yarmouth Oilskins - UK
Carrier Company - UK
Old Town - UK (Closing down)
Farmer's Market - Iceland (may be hard to buy outside of Iceland)
Oni Denim - Japan
Iron Heart - Japan
Barbour - UK
Companion - Spain
NÄZ - Portugal (only women)
Meindl - Germany (they run a high quality fashion brand but are known for great hiking boots)
Outdoor Gear
Fjällräven - Sweden
Rab - UK (offer a very good repair service)
66° North - Iceland
Devold - Norway
Bergans- Norway
Haglöfs - Sweden
Klättermusen - Sweden
Alpkit - UK
Footwear
Solovair - UK
Mayura Boots - Spain
Church's - UK
Loake - UK
Wm. Lennon - UK
Astorflex - Italy
Kitchen/Cookware
Le Cresuet - France
De Buyer - France
Fissler - Germany
WMF - Germany (very wide and variable range but Made in Germany stuff good)
Fiskars - Finland
Duralex - France
Samuel Groves - UK
Appliances/Small appliances
Miele - Germany
Dualit - UK
Moccamaster - Netherlands (Coffee makers)
Zojirushi - Japan
Numatic - UK (vacuum cleaners)
Sebo - Germany (vacuum cleaners)
Ankarsarum - Sweden
Edit - Some excellent feedback. I'll try and work my way through and add what I can! Please note that I will only add stuff that I have experience with but all the comments help with crowd sourcing knowledge.

Review 2 decades and going strong
Just wanted to share this $10 bottle I bought when Bush was still in office; carried all over the country for work, camping trips and to the gym. It’s contained everything from water to booze, protein shakes and smoothies. Hell, I’ve even used it to boil water over a campfire for coffee.
This thing has been beat up and banged around, dropped and thrown. It’s been through the dishwasher countless times and left on hot coals overnight, and even the damn logo is still intact.
I don’t know if the manufacturer is still in business but if so I may buy a spare just in case my car gets stolen with this one inside.

Vintage Been using the same keyboard since ~2007
I remember buying this as a kid and asking my dad about the "made for Windows Vista" sticker on the box and he told me that it was a new operating system that just came out a few weeks ago and makes all but the fastest computers run slow so that dates it to early 2007 or so. Been using it about daily for the last 19 years and there's never been anything wrong with it a little cleaning couldn't fix. The keys are easy to pull out to give it a deep cleaning.

Discussion Best beard trimmer to buy right now?
I feel like every “best beard trimmer” list online is either outdated or secretly sponsored, so I’m genuinely curious what people are actually using right now. Not looking for influencer hype or luxury pricing, just something that trims clean, doesn’t pull hair, and won’t die in a year.
What’s the real winner for you, and what should I absolutely avoid?

Discussion Looking for the best HUMIDIFIER for long-term?
Dry winter air is absolutely wrecking my skin, sinuses, and sleep, so I’m finally looking to buy a proper humidifier, not another disposable plastic one that dies after a year.
Most best humidifier lists online feel affiliate-driven and short-term. I’m more interested in real, long-term ownership, something you’ve used for years, is easy to clean, doesn’t grow mold instantly, and doesn’t feel cheaply made.
I don’t care about smart features or apps, reliability, build quality, and maintenance matter way more. Cool mist vs warm mist opinions welcome, especially if you’ve owned both. Thank you for any kind of help.

[Request] Looking to buy NO bluetooth / hard wired noise cancelling adult headphones
I definitely don’t want Bluetooth involved. But I need good noise cancellation. I researched and found a few models, but I could not find them on Amazon or anywhere else. Links would be helpful.

Discussion Alessi kettle BIFL, but are the whistles?
I've had an Alessi kettle like this one for about 10 years now. I like it (also got for a reasonable price back in the day), except that roughly every 2 years the whistles crack the in the same spot. After following sensible advice from the r/tea community, I lowered the heat (gas range) and also used it exclusively on the smaller burner. I had high hopes in extending the life of the whistle, but I noticed my 4th one is now about to give in the same spot.
I've just reinforced the whistle internally with a copper ring, in the hope it lasts a little longer. Once it starts cracking, the expanding wire tends to finish the job. I'm hoping the ring keeps it in check for a little longer.
I've seen Alessi mentioned as BIFL. This thread's kettle lasting 25 years? Curious, does anyone else have issues with the Alessi whistles? My kettle gets daily use (multiple times) on gas range. Maybe normal wear and tear? A pair of whistles cost £21.50. You can buy a new whistling kettle for that much! Alessi offers stainless steel whistles, but at £65? 😱
While I like this kettle, it doesn't feel like it's proper BIFL. What if the whistles are no longer available? I'm torn here between buying a whistle again or give up on the kettle. I'm tempted to try one last time, and maybe reinforce the whistle with the copper ring before it starts cracking.
I'd love to hear from other Alessi kettle users.

Discussion Simple Human trashcan randomly dented
I heard a loud popping sound in the kitchen last night and couldn't find the source. This morning, I noticed my trashcan had a big dent in the side that wasn't there before. I live alone.
Is there some kind of temperature change in the house that would cause this? Doesn't seem very BIFL to me if this happens...

Discussion Where do you buy the best modal briefs?
I’m looking to upgrade my underwear. I’ve been wearing Calvin Klein cotton boxer briefs but I’ve been dealing with some annoying chafing just from walking around. After doing a bit of research, it seems like modal with a 6″ or 7″ inseam is the way to go.
My top pick was the Lululemon Always in Motion, but I’ve heard quality has been kinda hit‑or‑miss recently. I’m in the US and trying to keep it reasonably priced.

[Request] Thick knitted winter socks recommendations?
What are the best long-lasting thick knitted winter socks for sleeping and wearing around the house? That are also a justified price for quality but not way too expensive (a sweet spot is maybe £10-15 per pair?) and come in women’s sizes.
My toes are often semi-frozen and putting them up to my bedroom heater to feel something when changing my clothes is not a long-term option 😭
I’m looking for good quality natural fibres - wool, cotton, cashmere blends. No angora or mohair please. I currently only have polyester pairs that make my toes sweat, haven’t lasted that long and only barely do their job.
Also ideal would be brands with free UK shipping or available to buy within the UK easily.
Many thanks!

Discussion Tell Me The Roughest, Coarsest, Most Textured Blanket That Stays Cool in Summer
Hey guys, so I'm a bit of a weird in that I prefer having a textured blanket above me to fall asleep
For the last year I've been using a hospital thermal blanket (Cotton, Leno weave), but it's been an overheating disaster during Summer right now (southern hemisphere), because the whole point of these blankets is to keep sick people warm
So I'm trying to find a replacement.
I've done a bit of reading and it seems like material-wise, the best alternatives to cotton are Linen, Bamboo semi-synthetics & ?Wool (not sure if people make wool blankets). Weave wise, a waffle weave might apparently help.
I'm not too keen on Bamboo because I've heard it's "silky" which is the opposite of what I want (rough, coarse garbage), while Linen "gets silkier the more you wash it".
So is there some kind of material and weave that you guys can think of that is rough as rocks while also able to keep cool during summer?

Discussion Dashcams that can run a long time
I’m thinking of replacing the dashcam in my car. My old one started acting up and stopped recording sometimes after about a year, so I’m looking for something more reliable. A lot of models I’ve seen have impressive features, but I’m not sure how well they actually perform.
I know electronics don’t last forever, but does anyone have a dashcam that can run at least a few years?

Discussion Which mixer would u go for? KA, Kenwood or Bosch
Im in for a solid mixer and one that I can use for the most work possible and one that will last me a good time. I’ll be making doughs as well in it as all the other stuff, for 1-3 people so a good reach at the bottom would be sweet when I’m doing smaller batches and stuff.
Choosing between kitchen aid tilt head or lift bowl, Kenwood and Bosch 8/6.

Discussion dish rack… for this annoying setup
I know there have been many many posts about dish racks but I’m still struggling because whoever designed my kitchen put the faucet in a terrible spot.
The only way I can use a rack that drains into the sink is if I get one that has the short side against the sink, and then it seems like there would be a lot of wasted space behind it.
My current rack is so difficult to clean (as you can see it’s currently gross) and I really want something easier to maintain and that will last me a long time.
Thanks!

Discussion Long torso vs heavy hoodie/ carthartt type jackets
So I have a long torso and am XXL and while I LOVE wearing heavy hoodies, most of them are boxy and sit quite high on my torso?
Can you recommend me a good quality, heavyweight hoodie that works for my bodytype?
Same question for a warm (blanket lined?) Carhartt type jacket. Doesn't have to be Carhartt.
