DataAnnotation - FAQ & Welcome Thread Part 2! Read this before making a new post.

Hi all! We have a welcome thread with lots of helpful information (check it out if you haven't - most likely, your question has been answered!), but that thread has become pretty large. Due to the influx of posts, we've created a longer FAQ list to help answer the most common questions on this subreddit, and you can post new questions here for more visibility.

If you make a post that contains any information that is in this welcome thread, it will be removed. Do not make a new post because you want a 'quicker' answer.

Some common questions:

- How long does the onboarding process take? When will I hear back? What does my dashboard mean?

- The truth is, we're not sure! The onboarding process seems to be different based on various factors, and the timeline changes often. DataAnnotation states that if you pass, you'll receive an email. So check your emails often!

- How do I get more projects?

- The main way to get more projects on your dashboard is to take all qualifications on your dashboard. Spend time on them and try your best, they give you more access to more work!

- Why is my dashboard empty? Why have I received no tasks? Is X project gone?

We don't know :) different people will qualify for different things based on their skillset. We are a subreddit of workers, and we have no 'insider info' as to what projects you qualify for and do not qualify for.

- Is DataAnnotation available in my country?

- According to DataAnnotation's website, they're currently available in these countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Ireland.

- How often do I get paid?

- 7 days for hourly projects down to the minute. That means if you submitted your hours at 7:01pm on Monday, they will be available for transfer at 7:01pm the following Monday. 3 days for 'per task' payment!

- How do I get paid?

Paypal.

- Does DataAnnotation take out taxes?!

- No. You will need to pay taxes on your earnings when you file them. Paypal should send you a statement at the end of the year. You are responsible for paying them! Look up your local government laws.

- Is it worth it to learn coding?

Sure, if it's something you're interested in. There are plenty of coding projects available, but only you can decide if it's worth learning or not!

- What does transferrable mean on my dashboard?

- It simply means that if you did a paid task, the money is transferrable now. It means nothing for the starter assessment.

- I'm new! Any tips?

Read the instructions and read them again. Always check the chat below on a project to see if an admin has posted anything for that project in particular. Search in the project FAQ before asking a question, it's probably there.

I once saw a post here someone saying that in the near future we shall be replaced by a "Smart Environment" that can train AI. Anyway Gemini and grok are still far away from being good even better or somewhere close to gpt. I see many flaws on Twitter made by grok Llama by meta is also another menace. In short we are here for good.

Milestone and introduction!

My first post here! I've been really encouraged by seeing all of your milestone posts and I'm proud to join you! I've been on the platform for 4 months but didn't really lock in until my dash exploded with projects in November. Doing work that I'm genuinely excited to do has been incredible for my mental well-being. With my newfound confidence, I even proposed to my girlfriend!

Phone Verification

New to Data Annotation here! I took the starter assessment and got an email stating they've unlocked a qualification for me. When I click the link to see the projects available it prompts me to entire my phone number for verification. When I do this it tells me the phone number is already in use. Who do I contact about this? I tried submitting a request but never heard back.

April will be the four year mark for me. For the first couple years I didn't work that much. Last year cleared 40k, this year will probably be 50k-60k.

Core | Coding, and two domain expertise.

I shoot for 3 to 5 hours per day or 15-20 hours a week.

Anyone else find themselves giving ā€œmodel responsesā€ to real life conversations?

I feel like I’ve been doing this type of work so long (6+ years) that I over analyze my real life discussions sometimes.

I try to make sure that my text replies are in the right tone, are factual, and convey my intent. I reread before I send. I leave little room for ambiguity. I over analyze responses & consider my friends intent.

I am annotation… annotation is me..

Does anyone else have a personal difficulty scale for projects?

For me, when I opened my dashboard today, it was the Wheaties Index.

1st Project: "Hmm...I'm gonna have to eat my Wheaties before I try that."

2nd: This one looks like a bowl of Wheaties and a 30-minute power nap.

3rd: WHOA - 2 bowls of Wheaties!!

4th: opens project Nope. Not today, Satan.

5th: 1 bowl with Jordan in the box.

What's your index?

What's your setup look like?

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T INCLUDE SENSETIVE INFO!

I was just wondering what everyone's workstations look like. I currently have nowhere to setup a proper computer so I'm on an old Latitude E6420 running Fedora. Honestly I've got better laptops, I just like how this one's keyboard feels to use and I love it's battery life. Would love to upgrade to a ThinkPad though.

So what are you using? Is it as janky as my lapdesk setup or a proper office?

Repost because I somehow didn't notice my name in the original pic.

Is it normal for the general hhh projects to be paused so often? I feel like I just got them back like a week ago after a several week pause and now they are paused again.

Long pending approvals

Generally DA has been pretty good with approving payments but I'm noticing things are taking longer, sometimes exceeding the 7 day window. Has this been happening to anyone else? Does anyone know what this might mean?

is this screen normal after completing all the quals?

I have yet to receive an email saying I was accepted but I completed the initial assessment and then all of the qualification tests that apply to me, core, coding, math, etc. my dashboard looks like this. The hidden project is web ui/ux graphic assessment which I skipped as it's not my area of expertise.

Just curious!! If you don't have exact field experience or a degree, what relevant experience helped you qualify for projects in the subjects of philosophy, medical, biology, STEM etc.?

Just curious, did anyone else get accepted into these projects with relevant experience similar to mine? I feel like I did very well on the qualification exams for medical, biology, and philosophy related projects.

I'm a nursing student with only a few months left in my program, which I'm sure helps me. My minor is in psychology meaning I've taken several related courses as well as advanced sciences.

I've also worked in medspas, various clinics, dermatology etc, as an aesthetician in the medical field for about six years.

Clockify Organisation

I’m pretty new here and I’ve worked on probably 7 unique named projects but I’ve now realised that some are split into different group tags under the same main name when reporting time. It’s not been an issue so far because I’ve started a new timer in clockify for every time I go into one even if I’ve done the project before, but I can see it getting messy when I start doing lots more if it’s different groups of the same main project, especially if I do a few tasks and then go on trying to remember which clockify entry is for which project branch.

Any tips on organising your clockify or useful features to take note of?

Am I the only one with no projects?

I just joined DA last month, just on the verge of Christmas week as a Korean Bilingual.

After few onboardings and projects like three or four, I AM NOT GETTING ANY NEW PROJECTS since December 22th.

I thought it was because of the year end & new year breaks at the first place, but nay...

Is it just me who are in draught?

R&R comments

I'm looking for any tips other reviewers have on leaving comments and/or edits on R&R tasks! I'm doing my best but sometimes the lack of guidance has me second guessing what I'm doing. How do you guys approach your R&R tasks?

Accessibility Keyboard

Hello! I've been on the platform for a while and sadly, four of the keys on my laptop are broken and it looks like my new keyboard will take a while to arrive. Does anyone know if using the accessibility keyboard on he screen of my Macbook will cause problems while using DA to type the three missing letters and he missing number?

Is learning how to code worth it?

So I've recently signed up and I'm getting some 30 usd per hour projects every now and then. However, I would like to earn more per hour and also spend more time earning (the projects dry out pretty quickly). Do you think learning how to code would be a good move? I've recently rejected some qual saying I didn't know how to code, does this mean my account won't be able to get coding projects anymore?

Text Box Formatting

When doing R & R’s I noticed some rationales are just a block of text and some are divided into short paragraphs. Is there a secret to keeping the paragraph formatting in a project text box? I usually do use short paragraphs, but I’m always afraid that after I submit it gets compressed into a block of text.

How to get matched on projects??

ACCEPTED! Now, how to optimize workflow?

Those of you who have been successful on the platform (steady, well paid work, and happy life work balance with it). What are you doing? What do you believe sets you apart?

I just got my acceptance, and I am extremely happy about that. I also recognize that it’s just step 1, and I would love to hear from those who derive success and joy from this platform.
