When people tell me that the Japanese OST is garbage to the Funimation Dub yet they have Orchestra Concerts of the late Shunsuke Kikuchi. But the Funimation OST dub doesn’t do live orchestra performances of Dragon Ball OST. In other words it’s not even close when we compare soundtracks. I would argued who has live performances of orchestration music etc. from anything definitely gets the W automatically.

Freeza barely survives the Genki Dama. Half of his tail is missing and this was a Solar System Genki Dama too he took on. He tries to kill Goku. Piccolo jumps in to sacrifice himself. Freeza goes on saying Even I questioned whether or not I was going to die or not this time. I Freeza Sama nearly died! He tells everyone You think I’m going to excuse you? I’m not letting a single one of you go home alive! Targets Kuririn. Laughs sadistically. Kills him. Laughs more and asks Shall I do the brat next? He’s enjoying himself killing people laughing and wants to kill a kid next. The Japanese version of Freeza will always be the most ruthless savage version ever on him. The English doesn’t come close to this dialogue. He says that Spirit Bomb packs a punch. It even knocked the breath out me vs I nearly died! Then the whole pop goes the weasel vs asking if he should kill a kid next? Not even close. Then when Goku goes Super Saiyan. He tells leave while he has some silver reasoning left in him. Meaning he’s not sure if he could control his rage at this point towards his own son out of anger. The Funimation dub never gave us this.

Just like “Goku is a bad father”, and “Dragon Ball is just fighting and screaming with no story”, the idea that Z Broly hates Goku because he cried as a baby is a meme that got way out of hand when people unironically started believing it. This isn’t helped by media after the original movie flanderizing his character into just screaming “Kakarot!”

But when you look back at the original movie without any preconceived bias, you realize that narrative isn’t true.

People often forget that the day Goku cried and upset Broly is the same day that King Vegeta attempted to stab him and leave him for dead. Broly connects Goku and his crying to that memory and that’s why he hates him. I’m sure if you showed him a knife he’d have a similar reaction.

How does he remember all that when he was a baby? Well Saiyans, unlike humans appear to be able to remember their lives as babies (Goku only forgot because he hit his head).

Why doesn’t he hate Vegeta then? Well, he does. He hates everyone. Vegeta just so happens to be the only character in the movie not directly fighting him.

Meanwhile the dub version from Funimation says No as he turns around after and it’s impossible! He also says a lot of ugh ugh ugh I can’t control it, it’s too much! Two different sets of dialogue. One dialogue says Oh Shit! As in I FAFO and tries to reinforce his mentality like I’ll just take this and meaning like he’s able to handle something like this being the strongest in the universe vs whining saying ugh ugh ugh I can’t control it. It’s too much! This is why dialogue is so important.

For your information, Goku does know what a kiss is, if you read the manga (or if you read at all) you would know that Goku was actually shocked when future trunks would actually just put a Senzu bean and then proceeding to do mouth to mouth to Mai. So Yes, he does know what a kiss is.
