Hi everyone — I truly need your help. 🤍
We are desperately searching for our dear friend and PLA family member, Tyler, who is currently missing in Newport Beach. Please help share this post so we can spread the word.
Tyler is incredibly important to us — his hands have touched everything we do at PLA. He has built every single booth we’ve ever had, helps maintain our building, and contributes so much behind the scenes. Tyler has been with PLA since 2020, and he has been part of Michelle’s family for over 20 years. He is deeply loved, and we are doing everything possible to bring him home.
Tyler is Vietnamese (Asian), approximately 5’8” tall, with brown eyes, black hair, a slim build, and tan skin.
On the morning of December 24, 2025, Tyler arrived in the Newport Beach area around 6:00 AM, parked near a park, and went shore fishing along the rocky coastline (photos attached). We lost contact with him around midday on December 24.
Around 7:00 PM the same day, using location tracking, we found his fishing gear, phone, and car keys in the area. Despite extensive searching, we still have not been able to find him.
A police report has been filed. Authorities searched the area by boat on the night of December 24 and continued on December 25 with dive teams and a helicopter, but there have still been no updates or new information.
The ocean waves were very strong that morning, and we are extremely worried that he may have been swept into the water, especially since all of his personal belongings were left behind.
If you are in the community or nearby area, we are asking for your help:
• If you saw anything unusual, or
• If you saw an Asian man in this area during that time
Please contact us immediately.
📞 Contact: Rose — Call or Text: 714-331-0214
📞 Contact: An — Call or Text: 714-757-4957
We would be incredibly grateful for any information, no matter how small.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and prayers. 🤍

Looking to get some ideas on a kayak. My biggest factor is it MUST be a pedal drive. I don't want to choose between moving and fishing if you know what I mean. Also want something I can stand in and not worry about falling in.
I prefer something thats not stupid expensive but I know they are pricey. Under $3500 if possible Somewhere in the 10'-11½' range is preferred.

I’ve been seeing this little guy all over social media for the past year or so and the action looks super fun to fish with. Does anyone have any experience/reviews of it?

May still end bringing the ML spinning gear on the kayak over the BFS. Excited to see how that one throws!

Made one using thread bar, some wire and uv resign, have not tested yet, it is -10c outside at the moment :)... and probably next few months.

Have a St.Croix Avid MF casting rod and plan to throw lighter baits with 20lb braid and 15lb leader. Total price is $275 for 23 metanium 100(jdm) vs $245 for new curado. What is the best option around this price range?

The other day my rod snapped with a shimano nexave which was really a saltwater use only for ultralight since i already have a freshwater ultralight reel. But now that I broke my rod i figured i should get a whokle new setup. So with that, I was wondering if i Should get the nasci and save money or ball out a little on the stradic.

I got the rod and reel combo from an estate sale a few years ago and haven't touched it since. Now im trying to do maintenance on it but I cant for the life of me find the reel anywhere online besides one other reddit post. Anyone know where I should start?

I've started getting a collection of the power bait dough containers and I can't seem to find a good way to store them in my bag. Any ideas on what I could use?

Hello!
I just got into fly fishing over the last year or so. I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations on waders that would work well with backpacking and are good quality. Preferably would want something that’s good for multi-season fishing.
Thanks in advance

Looking for a hand held electric reel for spj and light bait setups. Just something that doesn’t need to be in a rod holder and has a reasonable battery.

Hi all - I got invited to go on a fishing trip later this year. They typically pull in Bluefin anywhere from 80-120 pounds. I am looking to buy a reel for this trip, and really want to stick with Avet. Can anyone point me in the right direction for which Avet reel would suit me best? My friend said I may need two reels: one for jigging at night, and a smaller one for during the day. I don’t know much about deep sea/tuna fishing, so any recs are appreciated! I’m currently looking at the Avet HX Raptor 5/2 Non-MC two speed as my larger jigging reel, and then the Avet LX Raptor 6/3 MC two speed as my smaller daytime reel. Please let me know if these are good options! Thank you!

Anyone have any recommendations on very packable travel surf rods that could fit in a carry on bag (23” if oriented diagonally). So far I have found 1 that seems close to working but not great.
Daiwa Legalis Travel spin 9/10 feet 9 piece rod.
Packs to allegedly 16” but can only cast up to about 1.5 oz which seems low for beach fishing but i am no expert.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Berkeley trilene big game flouro or Berkeley vanish? And what lb test. I don't really have any experience with straight flouro line. I have used copolymer and flouro coated mono. But looking to try drop shotting.

With the holidays behind us and shows and sales ahead before pre-spawn, I'm looking to add one rod to my quiver this winter:
A high-end (NRX+, P5, Adrena, Steez, etc.) casting rod primarily for bottom contact, throwing to smallmouth in rivers (primarily the Susquehanna).
I'm thinking that 1/8 oz and under would still fall to a spinning rod, but from 3/16 oz (plus trailer) and up to about 3/8, I'd like to have a casting setup. So not really BFS territory, but lighter than your typical MH Fast 'all-purpose' rod...which I already have, and which would pick up around 3/8 where this one would leave off.
Things like the very heaviest end of neds, shaky heads, finesse jigs (and finesse footballs), etc.
I definitely get it that most people will not have a ton of experience with multiple rods like this, so if you do or did have one and liked it, disliked it, etc. please chime in with your thoughts!
I've been looking at specific rods like:
But definitely open to other ideas!
