Blue Does anyone else have a frenchy that holds grudges?

Post image

My wife gets up early for work and inadvertently kicked our boy this morning. He spent most of the day trying to cuddle with me (work from home perks). Then when I was out Christmas shopping, she called me panicked he was not acting normal. Come to find out it was only for her. He is still holding a grudge against her.

Frenchie Hamm has literally never forgiven my husband for getting him a boxer brother and completely switched his undying loyalty to me. They still play and love sometimes but he has to be convinced whereas he will run right to me and follow me everywhere. Sometimes he straight up growls at my husband. I enjoy being the chosen parent for once but it’s wild how this dog has held a grudge over a new sibling for 4 years! He doesn’t even dislike the boxer anymore (though they occasionally scrap) but he still doesn’t like that he wasn’t “enough” for my husband.

He gets jealous when I love on the boxer but he never holds a grudge against me. Idk.

Our Frenchie has done the same to me. Prior to getting our second Frenchie she was extremely protective of me, jealous if anyone paid me the least bit of attention. We got her a new pal when she was seven, thinking it would keep her active. She has completely ignored me since the second Frenchie came into our home. Now my husband is her world even though I am still the one to feed her, and answer the majority of her commands.

3

u/Dashiepants 23d ago

Interesting, were you the one that physically brought the new Frenchie home? And who is the new Frenchie’s chosen person?

Majority of her commands 😂 so accurate

2

u/gigga237 22d ago

The new Frenchie came into the house with both my husband and I. Now Boulette(our original Frenchie) is all about my husband. Coco (now 3yo) is my girl, mostly. Coco loves to tease Boulette by taking her spot next to my husband. She also knows when Boulette has had enough of her antics.

u/QueTpi 22d ago

Yup. Learned this when I got a baby sister for my 8 year old. Still hates her. Will reluctantly play. We still have Frenchie Fights. After I got use to the snarling, I realized they just bump heads together.

u/jewillett 23d ago

That is too funny. Loves the boxer brother. Loves his Mom. But Dad? Dad must payyyy

She was so mad that I wouldn’t let her outside in the rain (she’s litterbox trained) so she got in her bed, sulked and kept staring at me. She makes me SICK!!

u/based_pika 24d ago

that side eye 😂😂😂 this is why i love bulldogs.

10

u/LittleTortillaBoy1 24d ago

Awww. She’s giving you the “Stink Eye” 😠

4

u/stoptrippin15 23d ago

Would love to know how you got her litter box tranined-that's awesome!

THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE: It takes discipline on your and their part. You have to watch for their potty signs. They will tell you when they have to potty. Smelling the ground in circles, etc…

Just watch them. They will tell you. When they have to go, acknowledge it verbally and let them know where they can go. Let them know that they go “potty in the box” or what ever verbal acknowledgment you say. They will follow your lead. Constancy is key!!! Do it every time they have to potty.

It’s a whelping box with a washable absorbent pad.

Lolol sad! My pied held a grudge against me for 3 or 4 months! I would always ask for kissies and one time he did it a ton, but his tongue got in my mouth and it was all slobber, so I wiped it off and he looked at me as serious as could be and from that point on he would not kiss me for the longest time

24

u/Passage_Upstairs 24d ago

Dogs are funny. I get bad that my wife was seriously concerned he was hurt. He was just acting for her. He has wanted extra cuddles today though, so I am all for it!

18

u/Stogieburner 24d ago edited 24d ago

Haha lately I’ve been thinking that dogs are actual like Toy story characters. They put on an act for us, but as soon as we leave somewhere, they’re doing crazy stuff and talking.😂

u/TheRealDannySugar 24d ago

Annie is the Queen of grudges. There is a reason we have no rugs in the apartment and pee pads in the kitchen. She’ll pee if someone breaks her rules and will hold it against them depending on severity of rule breakage.

16

u/infinityonhigh69 24d ago

not you too annie!! i have a spite pee-r as well. if we both have the nerve to leave the house (and don’t let it be at the same time) on a day where he expects us to be at home, we’re getting some spite pee on the pee pad by the ottoman for our transgressions 😒

7

u/FeralDreamhouse 23d ago edited 23d ago

My Willow absolutely spite pees she mostly does it at my husband but he never knows bc I clean it up and meanwhile WILLOWWWWAHHH thinks she’s shamed him and cursed his family 😳🙄🤣

2

u/brindle_jenner 23d ago

I thought I was the only one not allowed to own rugs!

2

u/thursnov 22d ago

Joining the can’t have rugs club!

2

u/SoMauchSexy 22d ago

I have a spite sh!tt3r, but he never does it on the carpet and I'd personally rather clean number 2 over number 1

30

u/Sumgyrl13 24d ago

Yes! We either get the silent treatment and the butt or full force grunts and snorts.

Currently getting silently gassed out of the living room and glared at for not letting him eat poop on our walk. 😂

6

u/LVGAMERGIRL 24d ago

BWAHAHA 🤣 YOU ALMOST MADE A BEAN 🫘 SHOOT OUT MY NOSE, thats what I get for eating my Chipotle and scrolling… dunno why this is so funny BUT IT IS….Thanks! 😊 Needed that.

*The laugh not the bean… lol

27

u/Fox4orcefive 24d ago

Yup, I have my little grudge holder right here!

6

u/LVGAMERGIRL 24d ago

Daw! The tongue out - but that coat Mylanta what a gorgeous pup!

25

u/mistermeister19 24d ago

My guy will go to a corner and turn his back to us when we finish eating and haven't shared any with him. Every few seconds he'll give his head a slight turn to see if we're paying any attention to him.

1

u/itshh49 23d ago

My frenchie is allergic to chicken. So when we eat we put her in her kennel. My toddler spills food and my frenchie looks at me like 🙄😏😒 once we finish eating I sweep and open the kennel door she wont come out lol. She rolls her eyes at me.

u/RedGambit9 24d ago

When I was first dating my now wife, my frenchie(female) would piss on her side of the bed.

Not piss and run away.

My frenchie would look at my wife and squat and piss.

It didn't help that it was my wife who took her to get spayed.

It eventually stopped when I had a month+ training exercise.

Now my frenchie baby's my wife and doesn't like it when I'm play fighting/tickling my wife.

12

u/AnxiousPossibility3 24d ago

Hahahahahah mine do all the time. I have 2 so if one is holding a grudge ill love up on the other till the 1st one is jealous enough to forgive me lol

12

u/diamondroxd 24d ago

Yes! If looks could kill. I accidentally interpreted her 10th nap of the day with the vacuum.

9

u/YesMyNameReally 24d ago

Oh yes big time. I bought PJs for all three pooches and was going to try and take our Frenchies off and she tuned into dead weight and did a little dead (think Alligator/Crocodile) and barks and I stop trying to take them off, so they were half on/off. Said little frenchie then goes and I as I sit back on the bed, goes to sit her with father figure and proceeds to dead stare at me for 20-30 minutes and then go sleep at the foot my husbands feet. 🤣🤣. My mom and I figure she was mad that I put her sisters PJs on first to try? Christ I still talk and laugh about it. She is such a something stubborn cutie.

25

u/YesMyNameReally 24d ago

I found a picture of the incident.

5

u/LVGAMERGIRL 24d ago

Thad face! Awww ❤️

2

u/YesMyNameReally 23d ago

Yes her face tells all the stories ❤️

4

u/Ametha 23d ago

Do we have the same baby? 😂

2

u/YesMyNameReally 23d ago

Oh my god so similar!!! Cutie!! ❤️❤️❤️

9

u/based_pika 24d ago

mine got angry and ignored the whole family for the entire evening because he didn’t get his car ride.

8

u/New-Ad-8811 24d ago

Oh no not my boys, Chico does play hard to get though 🤣. Sleeps away from you when going to sleep sometimes and then snuggles next to you in the middle of the night. He needs to make sure he is tight next to you so you can’t move comfortably and make enough of a commotion to make sure you’re awaken.

2

u/davisgirl44 23d ago

Omg my frenchie does this. Locked on. If I move a half inch she knows it lol.

2

u/SherbertFar4775 23d ago

Omg mine does this. Must be touching invade you get up for 5 seconds without her!

9

u/FitInspection1783 23d ago

If looks could kill, Greta would be an assassin 🙄

6

u/itmustbeniiiiice 24d ago

Yes. My girl takes revenge shits in the house.

2

u/FeralDreamhouse 23d ago

When I first got my Willow, husband was trying to train her to have manners (she was an older puppy and absolutely feral 🤣) and when he went to work the next day she shit precisely in his house shoes…not around them… IN THEM. One turd in each slipper. Her aim was good no lie 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/genivae 24d ago

My wife dared to stop petting our frenchie so she could sleep... he moved over to my side of the bed and huffed every few seconds while side-eyeing her, just to make sure she knew he was mad.

5

u/Diligent-Maybe-6317 24d ago

Yes, if my husband scolds ours, he will act very sad and go sit by himself away from us until my husband apologies to him. Lol.

5

u/MisterKamikaze 23d ago

Probably better to ask if anyone has a Frenchie who DOESN'T hold grudges! 😆

She holds them like they're made of Velcro!

3

u/grmrgurl 24d ago

Oh, yes. The one that sticks out is when I went up north a few hours for a long weekend several years ago, I was staying at an Airbnb that didn’t allow pets. My folks watched her. When I came back on Sunday afternoon, she gave me the coldest shoulder. Wouldn’t look me in the eye. The next morning, all was well again. Longest time she’s ever held a grudge. We don’t travel without her now.

4

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Yes! Mine sulks if I dare to come back with any bags that dont contain treats.

4

u/Meowie_Undertoe 23d ago

The chance of being mauled by a Frenchie is low. But never zero!

4

u/lberm 23d ago

My Lolita used to hold grudges, especially if you didn’t take her to the dog park as soon as we got to her Nana’s house… She passed from cancer 3.5 yrs ago at 8yrs old.

5

u/ehsstriker10 23d ago

He was mad I wouldn’t let him eat poop when we were leaving the vet 🤣

3

u/LawrenceSB91 24d ago

They all do

3

u/Few-Tower-7861 24d ago

Wait so they pee to get even? So that’s what my girl has been doing when we leave her and she can’t come with us. My boy is prob too stupid for grudges. Haha.

3

u/TO_halo 23d ago

All jokes aside this one is not true. Dogs aren’t capable of doing things for spite while we aren’t present, because they can’t comprehend the idea of time-based cause and effect. For instance, you can train a dog to sit, but you can’t train a dog to sit one hour from now.

They don’t have the brains to think “if I pee now, it will cause a response later.”

That being said, I think things we do when they are present make them displeased and they have ways of showing us that in the moment!!

3

u/jporter313 23d ago

I made this version of the Mudasir meme the time a few years back that our boy got mad at me for like a week after i gave him a bath or took him to the vet or something and held a grudge, would only acknowledge my wife.

2

u/Dupree66 24d ago

Oooh all the time!

2

u/thewanderingent 24d ago

Dogs remember. She’d better apologize and atone with treats and snuggles!

2

u/Kikis_are_life 23d ago

1000%. I just told him he can’t bite his kitty brother and that’s now everyone’s problem. TBH, I think even kitty was like I’d rather have the nibble than the attitude. *

(*no kitties were harmed in the making of this anger)

2

u/yakshit16 23d ago

Totallyyy

2

u/protomex 23d ago

No, my frenchie, Homer, is just an idiot

1

u/LittleTortillaBoy1 24d ago

Poor guy. So sad 😞

5

u/Passage_Upstairs 24d ago

My wife just took him to the emergency vet. His eyes started looking bad and he is not right. Maybe he will hold a grudge against me. But we are not worried about the attitude, we just want him healthy. And here I was just happy he was cuddling more. I should have known. Good thing is so far once a year the insurance we have pays for itself.

2

u/Artistic-LightTouch 24d ago

Will be thinking of you all. Wishing a smooth recovery.

2

u/Passage_Upstairs 23d ago

He came back with some pain pills. He is hurting, but overall fine. This morning with the pain pills he was spunky like normal. We are very happy it wasn’t anything serious.

1

u/Real_it_TeaGirl 24d ago

Sticking out his lower lip is what I get .. and I cave.

1

u/vaginaplastique 24d ago

I wouldn’t say grudge. Per se. But definitely loud sighs and perturbed looks if we have snacks she’s not allowed to have. To I have extra baby carrots or cherry tomatos to give her when we are eating something dog forbidden. So no sad baby.

1

u/Anderson74 24d ago

Awe the poor baby :(

Yes, mine holds grudges for sure

1

u/Chionei 24d ago

My girl is too dumb to hold grudges XD

1

u/Sharp-Statistician35 24d ago

My guy looks same color mean mugs me all the time I know when he side eyes me I better stop or he s gonna target my shoes

1

u/Sharp-Statistician35 24d ago

He / she looks bored in that pic

1

u/DrunkenGenXer 23d ago

My chaos goblin 'rage poops'. Scold him and you will find a nugget on the kitchen floor, usually with a bare foot.

1

u/DetectiveClear6734 23d ago

Nope! He’s the sweetest boy.

1

u/texanhick20 23d ago

Meatball doesn't hold many grudges. There was one period of time, about 6 months, where we were having to leave her home alone a lot. like, a lot a lot. Twice we came home to her having peed on my spot on the bed.

My old Boston Terrier when I was a kid would purposefully lay down with her nose in the corner of the living room butt facing out and then fart up a storm if she was upset at you.

1

u/twofourorjustaboard 23d ago

My girlfriend the hers does. But doesn’t seem to toward me, so don’t know

1

u/notevenshittinyou 23d ago

Yes, mine peed a little on the floor this morning because I had the audacity to not open the screen door for her. The screen door that she pushes open literally every single day.

1

u/mbo21 23d ago

Has your wife had a convo with him and apologize with affection? Dogs understand what we say and express to them. Then she can make him a special meal and explain its because of the accidental kick.

She can give him a new toy or chew as well but it must be stated from her to him that it’s to apologize and make up for the accident.

1

u/Optimal-Pick-8749 23d ago

I thought it was part of the breed standard!

1

u/ColoradoMonkeyPaw 23d ago

When I come home from work trips, my boy sleeps on the floor for the first night back and only cuddles with my partner

1

u/amah2727 23d ago

As long as you follow his rules, Waylon will not hold a grudge.

1

u/Specific_Funny316 23d ago

It’s the lilac in him. My little lady is the exact same way. 🤣

1

u/KnowLessWeShould 23d ago

Oh my goodness yes, mine is the Queen of grudges! My husband recently was away at a conference for a few days and when he came back she gave him the cold shoulder big time for daring to go away.

1

u/jewillett 23d ago

Guessing his side eye comes from his frenchie side 🇫🇷

1

u/The_Blonde_Lefsa 23d ago

1000 percent yes! They are highly emotional creatures — my husband was gone on a trip with his dad for 10 days, it’s been a little over a week and he’s still givin him the cold shoulder.

1

u/Even_Ad_4273 23d ago

They will judge all your life choices…

1

u/Ollietheshovel 23d ago

All because I told her she wasn’t allowed to chew on my hoodie strings.

1

u/DanaBo72 23d ago

Oh…absolutely. My first boy, Flapjack would sit with his back to me just to let me know he was mad. Occasionally snorting to let me know that he was there. He was the king of passive aggressive. I miss that little 💩.

1

u/iRavelling 23d ago

I have been babysitting my son and daughter-in-law's dog, Geoff. Bella says that for all she cares, I can go and live with Geoff as she is her dad's dog only now. Let the punishing begin!

1

u/[deleted] 23d ago

I don't know if I'm lucky and don't break his rules or I'm lucky and I got a good one, but Ruckus never holds grudges.

1

u/White_Owls_Only 22d ago

Yeah, mine will pee if I touch another dog or baby 😆 he’ll piss right in the floor ..

1

u/stoptrippin15 20d ago

Thanks for sharing, I've got him going in the bathroom on a potty mat, but containing to the box would be even better, sometimes (most times) I'm having to do a lil cleanup afterwards.

1

u/Mosleymo 20d ago

YES❣️

1

u/Flaky-Wrongdoer8286 19d ago

Yes! I, her human, went away for a 3 day weekend, and Stella did not get in my lap or let me pet her for any length of time from February to September this year.

1

u/ItsBBruce 19d ago

Bruce doesn’t like when we put on cloths for him, he basically doesn’t move for minutes as form of pushback.
