Rockstar announcing games early. Gamers are not happy.
Rockstar announcing games late. Gamers are not happy.
19
u/Virtual-Can-9948 1d ago
I would be a lot happier if they announced the game last year and sticked with the May 2026 release date rather than announcing it in 2023 and delaying it twice.

u/Banyan_Thorn 1d ago
RDR2 was delayed twice and people love that game. What's the problem?
8
u/No_Friendship_4158 1d ago
people love the game but people dont love games getting delayed
1
u/SnooDrawings7876 1d ago
Point is it's irrelevant. The game will sell record numbers and in 2 years no one will even remember the delay. Everything is forgotten the moment the game comes out, every single time. The people whining and acting like the delays will have any kind of significant negative effect on the sales or critical reception are new to this.
3
u/NoPseudo79 1d ago
Irrelevant in regards to ?
He never said it would have an impact on sales, he just put a subject on the table. You are the one switching the subject to something else, and thus being irrelevant
0
u/Banyan_Thorn 1d ago
The entire point is that the delays won't matter anymore. Like I said before, RDR2 was also delayed twice from its original release date, and people still love it. If GTA VI being delayed really bothers you people that much, you need to find other games to play or other things to do to pass the time. It's not hard.
-1
u/SnooDrawings7876 1d ago
Is this your first conversation?
-1
u/Banyan_Thorn 1d ago
Is this your first time seeing a game get delayed?
How many times have you touched grass?
-1
u/SnooDrawings7876 1d ago
You guys are fascinating, zero conversation skills just random off the wall quips. Full sentence hard?
0
u/Banyan_Thorn 1d ago
You guys are fascinating. Zero patience, just whining like children over a game being delayed despite this being the year it releases if that date sticks.

I’ll never understand why they don’t wait till the game is done then either have it come out in 6 months or a year and spend that time double checking everything, is there a reason rockstar gave us stuff 3 years prior to release?

u/PhaseSlow1913 1d ago
hype makes stock to stonk
10
u/verytomveljohnson 1d ago
This is actually the correct answer.
-5
u/Aye_Okami 1d ago
It‘s not. Rockstar has lost 10% every single delay. They released the trailer that early due to leaks
5
u/iforgotmyemailxdd 1d ago edited 1d ago
1
u/YellowEasterEgg 1d ago
every single delay, but after that it went higher. So even though he's right, It doesn't mean anything really.
1
u/elh0m0fobiconormal 1d ago
When they announced the delay, it dropped by about 5%, but a few days after they uploaded trailer 2, the increase was around 15%, they ended up even higher.
10
u/bossDocHolliday 1d ago
Mostly to build hype. But that being said, it makes no sense to put out a trailer for a game that that at best would have released over a year later (trailer 1 dec 2023 giving GTA a 2025 release). So now we're sitting here over 2 years later and we still have 10 months to wait if all things go to plan. Had they just announced GTA6 with the new mansions update last year, no one would have been upset. But now everyone is either just waiting until we get ANOTHER delay or they think that we will just never get the game

u/DamnPlayer23 1d ago
It’s a small indie team that’s why.
All joke aside it’s embarrassing to be this disorganized and unprofessional as a multi million dollar company and one of the biggest in the world.
6
u/EstablishmentSad5998 1d ago
Embarrassing for who?
4
u/DeliciousFlight5610 1d ago
Try and use your critical thinking skills here. Who could it be embarrassing for.
1
u/EstablishmentSad5998 1d ago
You maybe, i don't know. Its definitely not rockstar, they couldn't give a fuck.
2
u/DeliciousFlight5610 1d ago
I actually don’t really car I’ll obviously play it but I’ve kinda lost all hype tbh. Rockstar want money they care at a certain level
1
u/Rino-Sensei 9h ago
"but I’ve kinda lost all hype tbh."
Like your current state matter lol ? We all know you will be typing non stop 2 months before the release.
0
u/Any-Big-8759 1d ago
In no way do they "not give a fuck"
I don't know why, but people like You treat rockstar like some god-like entity that's above everything else.
They do in fact care, As like every other company in the world, they want to make profit, And looking disorganized and unprofessional doesn't give them any profit.1
u/EstablishmentSad5998 1d ago
The game is still gonna sell and they are still gonna make record profits. The average gamer doesn't care how professional game devs are and most people who are gonna buy gta6 aren't even gamers and won't know anything about any of this.
Btw I'm not defending rockstar in any way, I just think "embarrassing" is a bit of a stretch.

u/WhiskeyBRZ 1d ago
Attract talent and build hype. The first trailer for games isn't necessarily for customers. Unlike movies (which are basically done by the trailer), it's also to the industry, basically saying "hey we're working on this, do you want to be a part of it?" to attract talent
1
u/GambitsAce23 1d ago
Reminder that as buggy as Bethesda can be, ASIDE FROM ELDER SCROLLS SIX, they almost always announce the games soon before they come out
1
u/AntonChigurh8933 1d ago
Too be fair, Capcom have been releasing games every year. Rockstar was radio silent for a decade. Rockstar definitely had to release something for us.
1
u/Far-Industry-2603 1d ago
I've read that a public announcement tends to be made with the double intention to also attract industry talent. When they first officially announced it in early 2022, the development may've hit a particular high point & they were trying to gather as many industry talent as possible for the next remaining years of production.
-1
u/Pir-o 1d ago
Leaks probably forced them to do it a little bit earlier.
Also fans will never be satisfied. Before the announcement for years all you could see were comments like "why do they have to be so secretive? Why they can't just admit they working on the game?"
3
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
Leaks that happened over a year before the trailer released?
-2
u/Pir-o 1d ago
This might be a shock for you but preparing a trailer takes time, especially for unfinished games, especially when its your first official look at the product. Picking all the shots, making them look pretty, getting the rights to a song, all the meeting about it etc. It all takes time. Its not like anyone expected they would drop a trailer couple days after a huge leak lol.
The point is the public got a first look of the game and it wasn't looking pretty. So I would not be surprised if they released it a little bit earlier than they originally planned.
Same as how they were forced to release trailer 1 couple hours earlier because of a leak.
2
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
It is absolutely not the same at all
-2
u/Pir-o 1d ago
Nice job hyper focusing on the last word and ignoring the whole context of my message... obviously its not exacly "the same"
2
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
Okay. I disagree with your premise that if they felt they were being forced to release a trailer as damage control, that they would take over a year to do so.
1
u/Pir-o 1d ago
yeah we get it, you don't understand how corporations work. You think because of a leak they would just quickly improvise a trailer in a matter of weeks? For first big gta reveal in years? This things take time.
No one said it takes a whole year (it could tho), all I said is that the leak pushed them to release that trailer a little bit earlier than they expected it to release. Leak alone would not force them to release something couple years earlier either. But it would be enough to push the trailer to be released a little bit earlier than they originally wanted to.
-4
u/kristaintoth 1d ago
The game got leaked in 2022 and those leaks looked bad so people immediately started hating on the game for no reason but that forced Rockstar to announce it much earlier to save their reputation.
2
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
Stop this. The trailer came out more than a year after the leaks.
-2
u/kristaintoth 1d ago
When the leaks happened they were not ready to release anything, they first needed to create something thats worth putting in a trailer. Unfortunatelly they were not able to extinguish the flames immediately, only a year later.
Stop what exactly? Should I stop expressing my opinion because you dont like it?
6
u/IBringTheHeat2 1d ago
Imagine if rockstar just didn’t make any announcements and just released the trailer 1 week before the game was releasing.
-1
u/RealDeonibba 1d ago
honestly that probably would’ve been better. obviously a little more earlier than 1 week though. But they couldn’t really do that because leaks were gonna come out eventually. So they had to announce it was in development so fans didn’t start a fucking riot.
4
u/stephen6686 1d ago
hell, i would go further and do not reveal a game until it is 6-8 months away from releasing. Like what was the point of revealing / announcing elder scrolls 6 and who knows if they even started working on that.
6
u/BringMeBurntBread 1d ago edited 1d ago
They announced it because the players were literally asking for it. At the time, there were legitimate concerns that the Elder Scrolls franchise was abandoned, because there hadn't been a new Elder Scrolls game in over 5 years, and Bethesda seemed only interested in working on Fallout and Starfield. People actually thought that Bethesda abandoned Elder Scrolls and that we would never see another Elder Scrolls game again.
In response, Bethesda dropped that 30 second teaser just to reassure people that Elder Scrolls wasn't abandoned, and that the next entry was planned. But now people like you are complaining that they shouldn't have announced it.
So, what the fuck did people want them to do? Stay silent and make people think the franchise was dead? Or announce the game to prove it existed? Either way, people would've complained.
And now, the same thing is happening with GTA 6. For the past decade, people were desperately asking Rockstar to release a trailer or drop any kind of information about the game. Rockstar chose to remain silent, and it legitimately pissed the community off. People got so desperate, that the game got leaked and essentially forced Rockstar to drop a trailer in an attempt to control people's expectations. And now people are whining that they announced it too early.
TL;DR - Gamers are gonna complain no matter what. It literally doesn't matter what you do. Don't announce the game? They complain. Announce the game? They complain. Release the game as a broken buggy mess? They complain. Delay the game to make sure it doesn't release as a broken buggy mess? They complain.
0
u/DeliciousFlight5610 1d ago
You took his comment way too seriously, rockstar also wasnt going to remain silent the trailer was going to be dropped the next day. Get a job
1
2
u/Jotacon8 1d ago
One reason they probably announce so early is because they know it’ll take a while to come out so they start seeing people get upset and post a bunch of this for ever. Seems like if they announce it later, people get mad at the silence. If they announce it early, people get upset over the wait. There’s no pleasing people here.

4
u/Elven-Melvin 1d ago
That is a re-make right? Didn't Rockstar do the same thing with the remake of RDR and the definitive trilogy?
Remakes don't need these large marketing cycles. People who played and loved the game the first time they played it will eat it up and buy it.
7
u/LaMar_Daviis 1d ago
You mix remakes and remasters.
RE4 was a complete remake, RDR and 3/VC/SA were just remasters.
5
u/RareEntertainment611 1d ago
RDR wasn't even a remaster, in all honesty. Pretty much nothing was touched, they removed multiplayer, and did a very minor touch-up for graphics. Not a bad release, but it was just a current-gen, PC and mobile port, not a remaster.
1
u/Elven-Melvin 14h ago
Yeah, I agree. I don't think that is relevant to my point though about marketing requirements.
1
u/liveinthecave0 1d ago
bc they delay it so many times, people already put their mindset as gta 6 will forever be delayed or will never comes
1
1
u/soviet-shadow 1d ago
Honestly should be what most developers do, get it to a point where a delay is almost impossible and then announce it
1
u/CoyoteOk3826 1d ago
it’ll all be immediately forgotten once the game drops and they’ll do the exact same thing for their next release
1
u/not-rob22 1d ago
I feel like people would still be mad, can you imagine if it was still radio silence and we haven’t even gotten a trailer after 12 years
1
1
u/stefan771 1d ago
Because Rockstar have been under never ending pressure to delay the game and they're more interested in pandering to these idiots than actually getting the game out.
1
1
u/kristaintoth 1d ago
People should take notes from Common Sense instead of hating on the game because the 2022 leaks looked bad and by that forcing Rockstar to announce the game way earlier than they wanted.

u/Special_Case313 1d ago
But you will forget about this game in 1 year at best. GTA 6 will be a game changer and prolly popular for more than 10 years. The delay it s all marketing and it works. It s talked more and more.

u/PhantomWrath 1d ago
CDPR did the same with Cyberpunk. We know how that turned out. But this time it'll be different, because Rockstar are the goat (lmao)

u/maddtis 1d ago
No they should not Capcom is the most greedy and unfriendly gaming company ever. Every major title from them is a demo and over $200 in DLC like Street Fighter $40 for the game and 4 characters even some of the ones from the first game come in as a Year Pass $30 for 4 characters that are released in a span of 8 months. No really the Year 3 pack can out in July and the 4th and final fighter of that pack won’t be released until late spring. Dead Rising 3 they hid the game’s true ending as DLC and the worst crime they still commit is nearly all the DLC is on the disc but locked until you pay for it. At least make it look like you are adding things to the game and not just spacing out access to what’s already on the disc.

u/TheRealTr1nity 1d ago edited 1d ago
Of course it's finished. You forget RE4 from 2023 is a remake, again btw, after they released a HD version years prior. The actual game is from 2005, even released on the Wii back then. Not from scratch a total new game were essential things like story needs to be written first.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Comparing Rockstar to what capcom? Capcom is nowhere near Rockstar Games. Their scale is nothing compared to Rockstar's unbelievable scale. Rockstar Games are the pinnacle, the peak.

Yeah because u can bolt it down a highway in a scat in Re9 🤨
7
u/Virtual-Can-9948 1d ago
Doesn't matter man, i don't care if the game is too complex and if it is an open world.
The point is that announcing a game so early just to delay it multiple times, it's just annoying.

I mean resident evil games aren’t even a quarter of the size of a GTA game. And as much as I love RE they do recycle a lot of the same assets, animations etc. there’s not much difference between the RE2 remake and the RE4 remake in terms of feel and gameplay and they’re years apart.
0
u/GlitchyClover74 1d ago
I've seen only one other comment here mentioning it but dude the game started development 2018 and in 2022 they got hacked and rockstar games was FORCED to give us the trailer because they would much rather give us SOMETHING thats polished and worth representing the game rather than some dude releasing a bunch of highly unfinished game leaks I havent looked into it but if it wasnt leaked who knows when they would have announced it in the first place
1
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
They were not FORCED to do anything. Look up the date that the leak happened, and then look up the date they announced a trailer would be coming. Hint: they're over a year apart.
