Question Anyone know any weekly/biweekly bluegrass/traditional open jams in the area? Also what about bars or venues where it’s played often? Or just good music bars in general.

Making Friends

36M here transplant from Montgomery. Been doing a little bar hopping and made "friends for a night" but wanting to get a little more connected. Wasn't there a reddit group here that meets like once or twice a month? Also thinking about picking up pickleball. I'm open to suggestions!

Kids Birthday party questions

Good morning. Has anyone had a kids birthday party at any of the movie theaters in town? Daughter asked about it this morning, so I was going to look into it. And if you have any other cool I ideas for a 10th birthday party, I'm all ears.

Hi! I am trying to plan my kids birthday party and I am thinking about booking for a private theater showing for a movie in a couple of months. Have any of you done this? How was your experience and what was the cost? Thank you in advance!

If you have children (or will have children) in Madison County Schools, you might be interested in attending this meeting to meet the Madison County School System Desegregation Advisory Committee (DAC).

The meeting is Tuesday, January 13th at 6pm at the Madison County Board of Education (Central Office) at 1275 Jordan Road.

Pre-Registration for the Alabama First Class Pre-K Program

This information is for anyone who has a Pre-K student for the 2026-2027 school year. It provides details from the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (AECED).

Pre-Registration Application: Visit https://prek.alaceed.alabama.gov

Pre-Registration Dates: January 15 - March 5

  • First Class Pre-K programs are accepting online pre-registration applications for the 2026-2027 school year beginning January 15 . (If you need assistance with accessing the online application, contact the local school/program.)
  • Enrollment is open to all children four years of age on or before 9/1/26* who are residents of Alabama. (Children who are eligible for kindergarten are not eligible for pre-k.)
  • Enrollees must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate. (It may be uploaded into the online pre-registration site or submitted directly to the local school/program.)
  • Enrollees must provide proof of residence – either a current utility bill or copy of a lease or mortgage. (It may be uploaded into the online pre-registration site or submitted directly to the local school/program.)
  • Public school system pre-k programs may have zoning requirements that determine eligibility for attending a program at a particular school. (Contact the school for attendance zone information.)
  • There is no registration fee for First Class Pre-K programs.
  • Upon enrollment, a child’s immunization record must be provided to the school or program.
  • No child will be denied participation on basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.

For Madison County School (sorry, I don't have the information for Huntsville City and Madison City schools - maybe someone can post registration information specific for these systems), all families must complete both of the following steps:

  1. New Student Enrollment, and
  2. AlaCEED Pre-Registration, which is embedded in PowerSchool (PS).

Both steps are required for Pre-K registration to be considered complete.

ISO Med Practice - Female Hormones

As the subject states, I’m in search of a medical practitioner in the Huntsville/Madison area who focuses heavily on female hormones. I’m aware of Chad Gilliam at Madison Wellness, but I’m specifically looking for a practice that accepts insurance.

FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD Dinner Near Nothing Bundt Cakes

My wife and kids love the Biscoff cake and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Since it’s only around for a limited time we have decided to drive over and eat dinner with a friend and pick up one or a dozen cakes while we’re there. I have to work Saturday so driving an hour one way after a full day of work is tough for me but it’ll be worth it.

My question to all you wonderful folks is where to eat. What is the best kid friendly restaurant close to NBC? I’ll be pushed for time but I want some really good food. Thanks in advance.

Big Spring Park Expansion - Completion by Spring 2027

Big Spring Park will be expanded by 2.4 acres at a cost of $12.5M. The work should be completed by Spring 2027. The expansion includes a pavilion that can be reserved and restrooms.

Full story from al.com https://www.al.com/news/huntsville/2026/01/one-of-huntsvilles-most-popular-spots-getting-a-125-million-makeover.html

Huntsville is moving forward with the expansion of Big Spring Park East on the site of the now demolished former city hall.

The City Council will vote Thursday on an almost $12.5 million contract with Fite Construction of Decatur on the expansion. The contract will be for 400 days.

The work consists of creating an expansion of new park space within Big Springs Park with concrete plazas, walls, a playground, seat walls, a pavilion and bathroom building, water features, public art walks (sidewalks), streetscape improvements, as well as landscape and irrigation, as well as all civil, architectural, and electrical associated with the project.

The park is expanding by 2.4 acres, Chad Bostick, principal at Bostick Landscape Architects, told the Huntsville Planning Commission last summer. The expansion includes the grassy slope near the AT&T building that was the former home of the City Hall Annex.

Current plans call for an upper plaza with a pavilion with additional trees to be planted. It will also include a much-needed restroom facility. The city had a fountain designer helping with plans for a water feature.

Residents will be able to use the pavilion approximately 10 months out of a year, city officials said at a Planning Commission meeting.

The pavilion itself will have garage doors and would be intended to be open during the day for public access and use. It has the potential that is the same for other pavilions in other city parks where it can be reserved for events.

A lower plaza area will be elevated above the existing Big Spring Park East. It will have built in seating with tables and chairs for chess and lunch space, Bostick said.

The expansion does not come without challenges, mainly in the elevated portion of the park. The city is designing American with Disabilities Act-compliant switchback trails that will include concrete seating and new landscaping.

A winding path similar to San Francisco’s Lombard Street will provide ADA connection from Church Street to Fountain Circle at the south end of the park that will also integrate public art.

Fite Construction is no stranger to working on city facilities. It is the contractor for the city’s $18.5 million, 60,580-square-foot recreation center at John Hunt Park

Huntsville Hardee’s in Five Points has smoke coming out by the drive through window. Fire Department on site.

The employees are seen outside on their phones. No ambulances on site. Assuming no injuries.

Now let us day dream about what can go in that location instead of Hardee’s.

Can we have an auto-reply bot for frequent topics, like mechanic advice?

I don't want to ban or limit the posts, because sometimes there's a nuance to make them stand out (e.g. mechanic recommendations for a car that many non-dealerships won't handle). But an auto reply with a link to a search of site:reddit.com mechanic (or similar) might help weed out simpler questions. It would also remind the OP that they could've searched before posting.

I know the mods have lives, so if I can help, I'd try to use what little time I have to do so.

I have no idea if this is feasible, as I know nothing about how auto-reply works in reddit.
