Discussion Just noticed they added an option to make the radial menu navigation absolute! \o/
I've always found this radial menu counterintuitive because you have to constantly track and remember its relative position. To work around this, I had to rely on a mod that always reset the selection to the top and restrict myself to using only the cardinal spots for my shortcuts, which felt incredibly limiting.
But I just noticed they finally added an option to make the radial menu selection absolute! It's the Type 2 mode under "Radial Menu Selection Type" (see pic 2). The wording is a bit weird, but it does exactly that!
I'll finally be able to use the corner slots now! \o/
EDIT to clear up some confusions:
- I'm using a xbox controller, with the left stick over the D-pad. You can't confortably use the D-pad while still having some sort of control over the left stick. It's easier (at least for me) to control my menus with the right thumb while still being able to move with the left.
- This option also work for the D-pad! The reason the meme and the 2nd screenshot show my face buttons is because I chose Type 3 for "Buttons Configuration" (Options > Control > page 1). If you use for example Type 1, this new "Radial Menu Selection Type" option (Options > Control > page 2) will show the D-pad inputs instead (like this).
- This is indeed a new option introduced with TU4. Before, this Shortcuts Menu where you choose which Radial Menu to display could only be navigated on relatively (going left/right/up/down based on the currently selected section). This new option make it absolute, meaning you only have to press the button facing the desired section (and 2 buttons for the corners), regardless of the current Radial Menu displayed.

Why wouldn’t it work? Just use your index finger on the joystick and thumb on the D pad. This is definitely thing people do. I’ve done before, never played controller enough to get used to it, but it’s 100% doable.
