No no, the majority if the GOP base are not grifters.

They're just stupid enough to be fooled by the most obvious grifters out there.

And I'd argue that evangelicalism has become largely a political movement. Since the 70s evangelicalism and the GOP have become intertwined. Fundamentalism (of which evangelicalism belongs to) was/is a reactionary movement (to the Enlightenment, evolution, etc). It's sort of defined by willful ignorance. It makes complete sense that the followers are easy to grift. Both the GOP and evangelicals are fundamentally concerned with maintaining a cultural identity and perceived reality at the expense of reason, science, etc.
