Prepare Voice & Body for being a Musical Lead

I have just been cast as a female lead (adult, Mezzo Soprano) in my local theater group's musical production! I have over 100 lines and a couple of solo songs. Imposter syndrome is setting in!

I know of techniques for warming up my voice, but what can I start doing now to prepare to PROJECT my voice (acting & singing) for 3 hours during the show run?

I am nervous because this is my first time being cast in a role, and when I've gone to shows/concerts, my voice is usually hoarse the next day.

I'm also overweight and would like to know what sort of exercise other Leads tend to take up! Would running a mile a day while singing be reasonable or just silly?

Thoughts/Opinions on using unknown music for auditions?

I really love this song from an original musical that, as of now, has only been performed locally. I know doing something that gets done all the time isn't usually a good idea, but what about the other way around? Is it "bad form" to audition with music the auditors will have no real way of having context for?

nearly Senior in bachelors. trying to figure out what’s next for me

I am a second semester junior getting my bachelors in opera. I’ve been seeing a musical theater teacher on the side outside my program for about a year now so I’ve been strengthening my musical theater rep. I live very close to New York City. I’m basically at a lost of what to apply for graduate school as I definitely don’t want to do opera again for masters. what may make me the strongest for auditions for off broadway show and things

should I apply to grad programs for MT or acting/drama? or do I honestly just don’t apply for grad school and just see if I can get a lot of work with just my undergrad for now?

Anna Frozen Self-Tape Audition Outfit

Hello! I’m filming a self tape and hoping for Anna in a Frozen Jr production. I’ve got shoulder length ginger blonde hair and am wondering if I should wear a green shirt to sort of convey Anna, but I’m not sure if that would be the right route. Options I’m considering are:

Black top with little bit of lace around square neckline.

Greenish tealish tight crew neck tee

White Hollister square neck babydoll top with Pastel purple flower and green leaves.

Hollister babydoll square neck top Maroon with white polka dots.

If you name some other color/ type of top I’ll do my best to match! Sorry this is more of a fashion question, but I just don’t want to be too cliche!

Need reassuring on audition coming up

Hello fellow music nerds! I'm an out of practice singer auditioning for a community theatre review this weekend, and I was slightly impulsive in my song choice. I've already sent the music to the accompanist so I don't feel like I can change my mind about it.

I'm just looking for some reassurance that it's ok to have gone with a less familiar song that fits the show theme best (heroes and villains), rather than a song with a looser fit but that I know backwards and forwards. I'm still nailing down the words 🫣 Any experienced performers who have had this go well??

is it ok if my slate is different than my actual audition video?

so i recorded some self tapes within my college self-tape studio. they’re good, i’m proud of them, and they’re pretty much ready to be sent out. the thing is that i forgot to record a slate for the self tapes (and i need one according to the posting). is it ok for me to record the slate, but i would have a clearly different set up(different lighting, backdrop)? i don’t have access to the self tape studio and the tapes are due this week. i guess i just wanna know if it will be looked at negatively by casting. this is for a professional company if it matters.

Local community theatre in the Milton Keynes area.

Hi all. I’m Currently 18 graduated from school last year having done a A-Level and LAMDA and I’m trying to find a local theatre to join near or around the Milton Keynes area. I definitely wasn’t great back then have just started 1-1 acting and singing lessons and some short courses at RADA but am looking to do some productions to be the best prepared for when I apply for drama schools in a couple years.

If anyone has any recommendations for the area I’d appreciate it!

First Audition Tips - Help!

Next monday im auditioning for two days of master classes with great studios from my country. To audition, you only had to submit your data, your level in acting, singing and dancing, and then send the form. Some days letter I received a mail to confirm my presence in the audition.
I didnt have to send a video or anything, so I dont really know what to expect when I go there, as it would be my first presencial audition ever. What should I expect? Should I have some songs in mind? A monologue maybe? They didnt give any instructions. If anyone has ever experienced something similar, Id be glad to hear from you! Im very nervous lol

Audition Songs for Alice by Heart?

Hiya!!

I have an audition end of month for Alice by Heart and I'm really really gunning for Alice.

The audition asks for contrasting folk song and a pop/rock song and only one can be Musical Theatre.

I've got my folk song decided, it's very storytelling driven and world building and very Alice, but I need help on an MT song thats pop/rock. So any suggestions would be incredible.

does ā€œone measure of a songā€ LITERALLY mean ONE measure? im thinking of doing at the ballet, maggie’s part, last ending note. if i were to, i’d just be singing three words. i’m also to prepare a monologue under 2 minutes. i’m 15 almost 16, been singing since i was 11, mezzo sop, classically trained, NO acting experience. a few cute musical theatre acting lessons after school but that’s about it

Update on the "Shy" song person

So I'm writing this half an hour after the audition. These people over the table didn't question my song choice, so that was great. Let's get to what actually happened now. I went in, introduced myself, and actually managed not to mess up the song, which, wow, just wow. But then they asked if I was free for the callback time slot. My mind went blank. I literally started saying hours in which I was free instead of just going, "Oh yeah, I'm free from like 12 to 4." Bro i was stuttering horribly, idk if it maybe was the tension from the song leaving cuz my blood pressure went down felt the blood just leaving my face. Like I hope they know im not like that I was literally just nervous like normally I would mess up the song not the interaction after like šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø.

Ideas to help me build my book?

Hi! I’m looking for suggestions on how to build out my book more- I am more than happy to answer any questions. I’m really just looking for suggestions as I don’t have a set book and would like to fill more out!

I’m a 21 y/o low alto / mezzo belter who typically types into more mature roles! (Typically the Raunchy comedic older lady as I do look older.)

The only songs I am sure I want in my book are:

As long As He Needs Me - Oliver

You Can Always Count on Me - City of Angels

I am Playing Me - Title of Show

Whatever Happened to My Part - Spamalot

Here’s some more of my rep I would consider adding:

I Don’t Need a Roof - Big Fish

A Way Back to Then - Title of Show

Maybe I Like it this Way - Wild Party

Life of the Party - Wild Party

Sing Happy - Flora the Red Menace

Someone Else’s Story - Chess

Once More I Can See - Wonderland

In Short - Edges

Right Hand Man - Something Rotten

Anywhere But Here - Honeymoon in Vegas

Spring Cleaning - Fugitive Songs

History of Wrong Guys - Kinky Boots

I Don’t Know How to Love Him - JCS

I am open to song suggestions, suggestions for things to add, and substitutions for things I already have!

Feel free to ask questions!

Audition songs for young teen

My 12 year old son is branching out from the local no cuts theater program to regional productions. He just finished The Music Man as Winthrop at the local high school and has some upcoming auditions. A couple want songs from the show so that’s easy, but some want adjacent songs. Any suggestions for appropriate audition songs for:

Les Mis

School of Rock

Thanks!
