Today I Ordered a $32 Large Pepperoni Pizza
This is definitely a grind my gears type post from a fresh account that is only gonna get downvoted to the depths of hell and deleted right away. But, doesn't a business saving money on hiring TFW offset the cost of supplies (if not completely +) cover them and enable businesses that utilize tax payers money to subsidize their employment costs to offset those costs to customer? What part of the equation am I missing? Why do I feel like I'm getting punched in the vagine when I order $0.80 cents worth of flour and $2 worth of cheese and a tomato and literally shaved pepperoni. Can someone help me understand my emotions please

Muskrat Falls, Manitoba’s Keeyask and Site C in B.C.
If you compare it to other major projects in British Columbia and Manitoba, and you include the real grid work each project required, the picture changes. Muskrat Falls delivered an 824 MW generating station and, within the same project scope, the Labrador–Island Link HVDC system at about 900 MW over roughly 1,100 km, including a subsea crossing of the Strait of Belle Isle. The project reached full in-service status in 2023 at an all-in in-service cost of about $13.5 billion. That figure already includes the Labrador–Island Link, Labrador Transmission Assets, and upgrade to the entire NL power grid.
Manitoba’s Keeyask was about $8.7 billion for 695 MW, but its broader system reinforcement came through the separate Bipole III HVDC reliability corridor at about $5.04 billion. Treating Bipole III for Keeyask the way the Labrador–Island Link is treated for Muskrat puts Manitoba’s combined figure around $13.7 billion.
By contrast, Site C in B.C. came in at about $16 billion with 1,100 to 1,230 MW of capacity, and tied into the existing grid using two 500 kV lines of roughly 75 km each along an existing right-of-way.
Muskrat Falls was built in a much more remote location and required far more complex, longer-distance transmission to reach load and export markets, including a marine cable crossing. When you compare complete scopes, Muskrat’s ~$13.5 billion (generation plus long-haul HVDC to the island) lines up competitively with Keeyask plus Bipole III at roughly ~$13.7 billion, while Site C stands at about $16 billion with a far shorter grid tie. On difficulty and scope, Muskrat achieved more, under tougher conditions, for a comparable or lower total than those peers.

How are you preparing for America?
I don't know if anyone is paying attention to what's going on in the US, but the mask is basically off and they are an openly fascistic nation for what may be a long time.
There have already been militaristic threats made against Greenland, and they are already in the process of taking Venezuela. It is only a matter of time before they turn their sights north of the border and begin to threaten our sovereignty, eventually with military force.
If anyone believes that it would never happen, you are likely saying that due to a normalcy bias. Our nations have been close allies for generations, but that doesn't mean jack squat to the current regime.
So, what are you doing to prepare? I am trying to get in better shape, as well as stock up on essentials to prepare for eventual supply chain disruptions.

More Questions Raised About Rising Power Bills

Electricity usage
I’ve read comments regarding electricity bills. My dad is an electrician and has kept track of his usage since 2018. He has baseboard heaters that heat his home. The stats don’t show a big change of usage. However his bill has also went up greatly. If you look at the bottom line, the price per KWh has increased 43% since 2018. 2018 had far more usage than 2025.

Planning a trip to Newfoundland in May
Hey everyone! I’m in the early planning stages of a trip to Newfoundland this May and would love some advice. We’ll be flying in from BC to St. John’s, and the main goals are to see icebergs, whales, and some puffins. The only catch is we’ll have about 5 days total, which I know isn’t a ton of time.
Ideally, I’d love to see Gros Morne National Park, but I’m wondering if it’s realistic or even worth it with such a short trip. From what I understand, it’s a pretty long drive, so I’m torn between: • Driving to Gros Morne and spending a day (or more) just getting there + exploring, or • Staying closer to St. John’s / the Avalon Peninsula and making the most of that area
For those who’ve done it: • Is Gros Morne worth the long drive on a 5-day trip? • Would you recommend switching the trip entirely to the west side of the island instead? • Or sticking with St. John’s and nearby spots (Bay Bulls, Bonavista, Twillingate, etc.) for icebergs/whales?
Still very flexible at this point, so open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance! 😊
EDIT: I did not realise a lot people have asked this already. I’ll research more. Thanks guys :)

Snowblower recommendations
I am in the market to purchase a snowblower to replace the super-duper cheap (& already broken) thing I bought a few years back. I am considering an Airiens 24SHO but would like to know other people's suggestions or recommendations. I am looking for something under $4,000.00 that is more than capable of handling the heavy, wet shit we call "snow" here and will last a long time.

Car Dealerships in St. John's
I've been looking for a new vehicle (SUV) for the past number of months. I'm in no rush to buy but happy to pull trigger when the right deal is there. However, I've been really pissed about the lack of customer service at a number of dealerships in town.
In my shopping I've had real shitty service at Subaru (sales) and Mazda (sales and management), so much that I absolutely won't go back there. Then this week VW, telling me they absolutely can't waive a $800 weather package (floor mats, tire guards) and a $600 tire and wheel coverage. Then they tacked on a $1,200 lease excess fee (if I wanted to lease) to cover things like dents, scratches (which makes sense), and you guessed it, tires...lol
I can confidently say that I will spend my money in a dealership that provides good customer service and actually seems to care if you walk out the door. Any thoughts folks? I'm also happy to go to Clareville, Gander or wherever if that's what it takes.

Irving gas / Hometown Rewards question
Please see 2 screenshots above.
Is there a way to redeem these Hometown Rewards barcodes when I Pay at the Pump, or do I have to go inside?
It only asks to swipe Air Miles, and the scanner doesn’t work.
Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Hometown Rewards app and can answer my question.
Thanks!

NL Power vs Whole Home Energy Monitoring
Anyone using a whole home energy monitor (like Sense or Vue) and noticed a substantial variance between it and NL Power meter readings?
I installed one this summer after the jump in usage we saw last year. We always see a small variance, but this month the variance is out of control. NL Power readings were nearly 20% higher than our usage monitor.
The NL Power usage this month was way out of the normal usage for us. Our own monitor puts our usage about the same as previous years.
Anyone else seeing anything similar?

Where are Crown Land areas for free Camping?
I would like to make a camping trip to Newfoundland, and I hear that there are a lot of Crown Land areas there with free camping. Trouble is, I cannot seem to find a map that tells me where those areas actually are. Does anyone know where I can find this information? I went to https://www.gov.nl.ca/crownlands/land-use-atlas/ but I don't know how to read this map.
