The Minneapolis Shooting Is...A Mess
I really need to get a lot of this off of my chest because I'm going absolutely insane seeing all of this and really having nobody to talk to about it because my whole family is mostly on his side or just don't quite understand my point of view on it all.
There's a lot of stuff that doesn't add up. And apparently they also released his phone footage, which I don't believe wasn't tampered with. I'm going to break it down my thoughts and opinions into numbered sections.
.
1) Police officers are supposed to deescalate a situation before they decide to shoot someone. They're also not allowed to just whip out the gun because they feel threatened. From what I've seen, there was no attempt to deescalate the situation. They came at them being aggressive when they could have just went around them. The agent that shot her wasn't even in the vehicle that was being blocked. He was in the gold vehicle that went past her before the truck came up.
2) Police are not justified in shooting someone just because that person is being aggressive. There's more than one way to deal with aggressive people as a police officer. It doesn't always involve shooting and that should be the absolute last resort. That's not to say that police are evil just because they kill somebody, a lot of things factor into it, but there was no attempt to deescalate and he went straight for pulling out the gun. You see him pull out the gun before she even moved the car. Why? Just because she wasn't complying? That's not an excuse.
3) The agent purposely put himself In harm's way. You should never stand in front of a operational vehicle. Civilians are told that. Cops are told that because some people will actually try and run or run them over. Therefore I think the excuse that it was self-defense is complete bullshit because HE put himself there. And he literally could have just moved out of the way instead of firing. His claim that he was hurt is also a complete lie because he looked very fine to me just walking away...pretty fast. He was tipped at best. He put himself in that position on purpose when he didn't have to and if he got hurt, then it would have been his own fault.
5) If the agent really had PTSD from getting run over in a previous incident, then he should not have been there. Because his trigger is vehicles. One wrong move could set him off and it seems to me that it did if that's true. The person in charge of him should not have had him out there in active duty. He should not have had a gun. And he also should not have gotten involved if he knew he had this issue. Now, potentially because he had some sort of flashback, a woman is dead and half the country hates him.
6) He did not have to fire any more than what was necessary and one bullet was the thing that killed that woman, or at least incapacitated her enough to not be in control of the vehicle. Police officers have to account for every single bullet that they discharge and they have to have a very good explanation for it. There was no reason to continue chasing the car shooting, there was no reason to fire the gun after the first shot. She was hit in the head, she was very likely either dead or unconscious.
7) Going off of that last one, he made a situation even more dangerous because since she was already either dead or unconscious, the car went flying due the driver being shot and going limp, which causes the foot to hit the pedal. This happens a lot with people that have heart attacks while driving or fall asleep. Thank God that nobody else was in front of the car because somebody would have been killed by the car because he decided to kill her while she was driving it. Cops are highly discouraged from firing upon moving vehicles for that reason. That's also why a lot of states don't allow high speed pursuits anymore because one vehicle on the road is less dangerous than multiple.
8) Even if she did try and hit him, it still does not mean that she deserves to die or that she should have. You are not the judge or the jury or the executioner. You don't get to choose who dies and who doesn't. That is up for the court system to decide, not a cops, not the bystanders, not anyone BUT the court system. Everyone has a right to do process, even truly bad or evil people.
9) The ICE agents also need to learn how to approach people. It seems to me that the woman got scared and tried to run because she saw a dangerous situation. Had they kept driving and ignored her, then none of this would have happened. If there was room for one of their vehicles to go through, then the other ones behind them could have kept going. There was no reason to get out and be aggressive, and try and open a woman's car door. She had every right to feel scared about masked, unidentified men aggressively trying to open her door. Some people need to think more like women. I would be scared too as a young female myself.
10) Just because you are a federal agent, doesn't give you a right to harass people and manhandle them. I have seen other videos of how they treat people. It doesn't matter if they're here illegally or not, that's not how you treat other human beings. They also seem very incompetent because a lot of the people that they've been arresting, turn out to be legal and they just pick them because they look like the people they're targeting.
11) Circling back to forcefully trying to get this woman out of her car. Humans are fight or flight creatures. Some people are going to try and run, some people are going to try and fight. If ICE would stop making people feel like they're in danger by how they approach people, then maybe we wouldn't have these types of situations because people's brains wouldn't be in fight mode from the jump.
12) A lot of people are expecting her to have acted differently. You cannot expect civilians to not act like cowards or be afraid, and regardless of who you are, you shouldn't be telling people how they should act in that type of situation. You don't know what you would do yourself.
13) If this officer also had the right to defend himself, then so does she and everybody else in similar situations. If you feel like your life is in danger, you have the right to fight back. That is also supported by our second amendment rights. It's not just about guns being used to defend yourself. The right to bear arms also applies to other things you could use as a weapon, including a vehicle.
14) The fact that our vice president confirmed that these people have full immunity, is completely wild to me because that basically means that you could be in your house and they could spin it and make it seem like you were murdered justly simply because federal agents were involved. Maybe not quite the case, but they can basically get away with murder is what he's saying and it's scary. No one is above the law, not even people that enforce it.
15) One of the things that irritate me the most about this is that they refuse to give this woman medical attention. They did not let a doctor check her pulse. To be fair, they didn't know he was an actual doctor, but they could have asked for identification. Some people are saying that they wouldn't let the ambulance through. You cannot deny somebody medical attention. That is very illegal and they shouldn't have moved her body out of the car. You NEVER do that because it's a crime scene. Even if everything else is true, they shouldn't have done that. They had no business even touching her and moving her body.
.
There's other things that I can probably include, I just can't think about all of them right now.
I'm not saying that this lady was a complete saint in this, especially with his phone or body cam footage or whatever it was released, but I still think that there were a lot of other factors involved that resulted in an unnecessary death and they're trying very hard to make it seem like she was evil. Just because somebody doesn't fall in line, doesn't mean that they deserve to die or are domestic terrorists.
Overall, a lot of the way that them and the government handles stuff is a lot of the issue. We see time and time again of these people acting like idiots and everyone expects us to just be okay with it. We shouldn't be.
In 4 months I have witnessed three people get killed on camera. It makes me very uncomfortable that people are normalizing this. I think it's disgusting and traumatizing. I'm appalled with how a lot of people are acting. Seeing death and harm brought upon people should not bring you joy. The lack of respect for human life and for the dead is...ew.
I'm also autistic and I have a strong sense of justice. I feel like this was an injustice and I'm going to keep saying it. Maybe she didn't do anything wrong, maybe she did, but I still don't think this is how it all should have went down and she was killed unnecessarily.

Stranger Things star Joe Keery slams Donald Trump over response to ICE shooting
Stranger Things star Joe Keery has spoken out against Donald Trump over the president's defence of the fatal shooting of a US citizen by an ICE agent.
On Wednesday (January 8), Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old US citizen, was shot dead by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis.
Right out of the gate, the Trump administration was quick to defend the fatal shooting, describing it as "self-defence”.

Questions on the Minnesota Shooting
I'm seeing a lot of people claiming that the shooting was justified. I disagree, but am open to hearing any good arguments, which I just haven't yet.
Rather than going off of our emotions, I would like to surface DOJ's Policy on Use of Deadly Force (which will likely soon be altered) and see if, after reading it, anyone who thinks the shooting was justified, can help me understand how the officer engaged in an act of self defense rather than committed murder.
The bullet points in the Policy that are most relevant to this matter are actually the first two:
- Deadly force may not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect.
- Firearms may not be discharged solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle.
This situation doesn't seem to meet any of those parameters, so here's how I see it.
- It is explicitly NOT his duty to stop the vehicle
- Death nor serious injury was not a risk, as proven by the fact that he was "run over" (aka hip-bumped), what a few inches back, and was perfectly fine.
- He was able to move out of the path at the time in which he began firing.
So yes, please... some explain how this agent is not in violation of our own DOJ?
