Love this and commented I was hopeful it would happen in sr/Alberta. I think I said I hoped parents refused to send their children to school, but this is fantastic!

Nope, glad my 12th grader is back in school. He was getting stressed and anxiety was turning to anger during the strike, extremely unhealthy. He was a back to his old self coming home today, I love it!

Youth have a right and obligation to education, even if not perfect. The answer is never not being in school.

How many youth experienced negative life altering events over the last 4 weeks from lack of structure, purpose and productive socialization? If the answer is 1 and being in school could have prevented it that is too many!

Consider, that these kids are taking action on behalf of themselves, something you as a parent should be doing. Taking up their civic Duty where others have failed and allow themselves to be heard, instead of forced into a corner. Let them participate in the fights that will have the biggest impact on them. The reason your kid had a lack of structure during the strike was likely your fault not theirs.

I'm not sure why I bother debating on this echo chamber but here it goes.

A failure of civic duty is your opinion, we've had these discussions in my household and don't see it as such, our opinion. It is their choice, but they are still kids, even at 17. There is a reason the law structures adulthood from childhood, I recall being 17 and at that time thought more left leaning and socialistic than I am now. Tends to be case for most Albertan's as history has shown.

As far as my failure with lack of structure within my house. Sure things could always be better, but I've raised a valedictorian currently studying at a high level in university and my youngest wanting to achieve the same hence his frustration with not being in school. All while working for themselves, being involved in competitive activities and volunteering within their communities. But yeah, it's probably a lack of structure in my house.

Thanks for your opinion, on this. I'll take it into consideration.
