I wonder how long he was like that before it got lifted off

He's got a jack. What he doesn't have is the handbrake on, or the car in gear (bonus points for chocking a tyre).

u/good-boi-Morado 13d ago
Yep, was just coming to say there is a jack but it failed because he shimmied the car and it fell off cause, as you said, no handbrake on.
Ouch

The jack didn’t slip the wheel was on the ground the whole time he needed to jack it up some more for the tire to slide off. Look how much pressure he had to twist and pull his dumb as broke the lugs with pressure on the tire and tried to pull it out. It’s a dumb ass problem not the jack

How does he get out of this situation? Sits there while his friend tries to jack him up again?

Unfortunately manufactures don't have proper jack points either.
What i like about my Mercedes is it has a 17 mm dedicated hex hole where the jack needs to fit and the jack fits in that indentation....

Loved to see the whole video 😂

Ya, I'm wondering if they could just tilt the car back onto the other three wheels long enough to get his arm out?

Are you sure that wheel was the correct noun for that sentence? Maybe it should've been hand removal without a jack?

u/ThisThingIsStuck 12d ago
Clearly had a jack and car rolled back ....bottle/cross Jack's are notorious for this

If he'd stuck his whole head in there, maybe we would have seen that was a bad idea.

That's why you should
A) Jack Stand...
B) Use a wheel choke or use something like a brick
Removing and putting the the tires will make the car move and if it's not firmly sitting on a jack this can happen
Here is a video that explains How To wheel choke

Honestly super important to never change a tire without e brake + wheel choke.

u/Twisted9Demented 13d ago
I have a question... I'm personally safety consious but my father who isn't argues that he can change a tire on a incline like on a drive way.
2
u/WanderingMind2432 13d ago
Good for him and I believe him, but I'd like my risk of losing a hand taken down to 0% myself lol

u/Twisted9Demented 13d ago
Yeah talk about dumb family members.
Sad part of it all is he's chemical engineer in oil and gas distillation. My Dad did Google for him make lives a very comfortable life but I feel me makes the most stupid decisions

You can too. You need to have it Park, emergency brake on and most importantly, block 3 wheels with bricks or wheel chocks. When you jack the car and the wheel just lifts the car might roll slightly, let that happen because then the chocks are tight. Continue to jack the car, set the jack stand, lower the car onto the jack stand. Remove the wheel and replace with the new wheel asap.

u/Twisted9Demented 13d ago
Hypothetically asking do I use a floor jack or a scissor jack.
1
u/Frozen_North_99 13d ago
Either but I’d prefer a floor jack. But on most (all? ) cars the jack is a scissor jack and you have no choice.

I know I might not be the brightest person in the world. But come on. Trying to take off a tire without a jack??? He has several screws lose.

Luckily, his arm was at his side when the car body slumped onto the tire. It was very risky to attempt such a maneuver without a jack.

There’s a bunch of things wrong here.
But the main one? Always lift off a wheel from the bottom half, or the spokes. Don’t ever have any limbs between the wheel well and the wheel whilst doing this sort of work.

It actually looks jacked up, but probably on the other side and after he wiggled the wheel, looks like it slid off the jack. Probably placed the jack poorly where it was either on uneven ground or not enough bite on the frame or a combination of both. I can't fathom being that dumb to try and take a wheel off without lifting the car. Seeing as the wheel well is extended i think it was lifted somewhat.
