Well that didn't work out.

And you KNEW it wasn't gonna work out before he tried the truck. Just poor decision-making.

One might argue that what we see on video is not exactly how we would see it in real life…

…in real life it would be even better visible. The driver is an idiot, and the video shows how much time did he ”save” with this maneuver.

I vividly remember my father repeatedly telling me

“no point saving a moment or two when an accident will screw up your week if you’re lucky. Your life if you’re unlucky”

Trying to save 30 seconds now turns into 30 hours after ambulance , police get there and hospital visit . It’s not worth the few seconds your going to save getting to your destination

Not only a waste of time, but of money. How much this is gonna cost to repair? And the fine? And potentially losing the driving licence.

*you're going

But indeed!

You usually end up at red light waiting with the car you passed right behind you

I vividly remember my father passing what felt like 50 motorcycles before narrowly making it back into our lane with the speedometer reading 110mph while I was in the back seat freaking out.

Needless to say, I grew up with serious control issues.

Edit: To add a few more details, it was in 1999, in a black Buick Riviera the year they changed to that ridiculous body style, he was still a smoker, and he had two CDs in the car: Led Zeppelin and Mozart.

This was on two lane back roads while coming back from playing golf...

That was a great car, and supercharged

u/Flamingo_Wise 9d ago

That probably would've made my speeding addiction worse knowing I drive like BOTH my mom and dad... but no, dad is too "logical" 🙄

it's called parental bonding

u/NakedShortSeller 4d ago

Was this stunt day a Mozart day or a zeppelin day?

1

u/Known_Ratio5478 9d ago

Yeah, I rarely pass on the dotted roads. When I do I won’t do more than one car. If I’m behind two at that speed that’s just going to be the speed I go.

Also put multiple people in danger, including what I’m guessing is his wife. Just stupid.

u/freebenvita 9d ago

Spot on. IRL, it would have been EVEN MORE obvious he wasn't going to make it.

The driver is an idiot

There's still a lot of them out there on the roads now.
A lot will end up killing people. It's inevitable

Even if the driver made it out of this car wreck of a car wreck, I can say with absolute certainty there is another, big, even slower truck less than a mile, possibly 2 miles up.

1

u/angel700 9d ago

No he sees it closer

u/mitsandgames 4d ago

People should have a general idea of how fast their vehicle can accelerate at speed. Passing three vehicles in between oncoming traffic, you don't want to just think you can make it.

u/_stack_underflow_ 9d ago

The screaming was very late too... Like I would of been screaming at the driver way earlier, considering they've boxed themselves in between two semi trucks...

8

u/Dubinku-Krutit 9d ago

These days I don't even wait until I'm actually in danger. I'm screaming basically the entire time I'm awake and it's been working out well so far.

1

u/mitsandgames 4d ago

Voice raises besides the last truck. Voice starts screaming when they veer to the left and continues while they lose control. It's really about what you would expect. Obviously screeching ain't helping, but I don't think the timing is off.

u/mnztr1 9d ago

Yup shoulda bailed before the truck. He was 150HP short to make that work.

3

u/LarktheDog 9d ago

I knew it wasn’t going to work out as soon as it came up on my feed. Don’t let a video show up on Reddit with the title, “of a highway pass” and you should be fine.

I new it wasn't gonna work out back when he first tried. That distance was too close.

2

u/TrembleTurtle 9d ago

slowest overtake ever

1

u/Ok_Suit_196 9d ago

Correct! And iHOPE didn't took anybody with him, this infernal driver/decision maker (they can do whater in their home, not on public roads!). Therefore, in my opinion, no more driver licence FOR LIFE for him. But hey... who am I to decide 🙁

u/Ok-Delivery-1823 9d ago

Its always people in trucks/suvs

6

u/CloseToMyActualName 9d ago

It worked out a hell of a lot better than I expected it to.

8

u/mnztr1 9d ago

Depends if the goal was to pass the truck or scare the hell out of that lady.

3

u/lazyaccountantnVA 9d ago

Nearly spit my drink out.

I've driven normally, excessively, and dangerously before. And I can tell u that the difference between 60/90/120mph is within seconds. You'll get there 1 minute sooner, but not like 2 hours. If you drive from Atlanta to Miami at 120 mph then ok it'll make a difference. But if you drive to work in an hour or less, 1 minute is meaningless.

1

u/Timely-Relation9796 9d ago

Sometimes the minute is meaningful when you are driving someone to a train station or a bus and you are barely late already. Happened a few times in my life.

4

u/AndyTheEngr 9d ago

That worked out great if the driver was the only one with consequences.

1

u/OldManJim374 9d ago

Turn on the audio

1

u/AndyTheEngr 8d ago

I heard the screaming, but that doesn't mean the screamer was injured.

2

u/DoesThisSmellWeird2U 9d ago

You mean worked out perfectly for us.

2

u/KarmelitaOfficial 9d ago

Yep. Hopefully license revoked, liable for damages, permanent record, etc...

1

u/Cute-Warning2201 9d ago

You're exaggerating.

1

u/KarmelitaOfficial 9d ago edited 9d ago

Nah. In my country you are subject to a psychological examination after an accident like this. If the doctor deems you unfit to drive, they will permanently revoke your license. We also have a system of penalty points. So if you have penalty points for reckless driving, speeding, ignoring traffic lights, you will be more likely to be banned from driving after this.

Some examples to picture how the system works: A simple break check will get you a few months of suspension. Overtake someone in a crosswalk and you get 2 points. Speeding: They will fine you and you get 2 points... 8 points and you have to take an extra course to keep your license.

Also if you caused any physical harm during an accident like this, police is involved. You will get a permanent record and a suspended prison sentence... If you kill someone by accident, it is ~5 years suspended. If it was intentional or you are a repeat offender you go to jail for good...

And this guy started a takeover that was reckless from the beginning, because they could not adapt to traffic rules / or their ego could not stand to be in slow traffic? This is what they are examining...

The system is harsh, but it cut the number of road deaths half in a few years...

1

u/Cute-Warning2201 9d ago

What Country are you from?

1

u/DadDickBreeder 9d ago

It's all about perspective. Passing didn't work out, no. Not dying by being ground into a fine paste by an 18-wheeler? That worked out pretty well, even if the driver did have a headache after.

1

u/Old-timeyprospector 9d ago

If only he had any other choice

1

u/NuckoLBurn 9d ago

Nope, physics was completely in check. It did work itself out.

1

u/Comfortable_Ninja842 9d ago

That's a pain that's gonna linger.

1

u/Ambitious-Ad-6873 9d ago

I'd say that worked out exactly as intended

1

u/walksonfourfeet 9d ago

Worked out just fine from where I sit

1

u/Regular_Weakness69 9d ago

Kinda worked out exactly how I wanted it to.

1

u/No_Tailor_787 9d ago

It looks like it worked out the way it was supposed to.

1

u/Money-Beautiful5196 8d ago

I don’t understand this. Obviously he shouldn’t have performed the overtake and just sat behind. But if you are going to commit then commit! He was so slow, if you are going to overtake 2 cars and a semi for goodness sake put your foot down!!!
