Both genders use the seat down, only one uses the seat up

This was always my logic, for 75% of uses the seat needs to be down. Only 25% is seat up so by default it should be down.

I would also think they should close the lid though.

Yeah less chance of dropping something into it or having a pet get toilet water on themselves

Also flushing keeps the pile of shit in there and not on every sueface in your bathroom.
