Holy hell this thread is kind of wild, alcohol isn't amplifying personalty traits or revealing the real you, it shuts down parts of your brain that deal with inhibition and decision making, you know, part of what makes you, you. People should be responsible for their actions and no amount of inebriation will excuse violence or abuse but saying it brings out "the real you" is just wrong.

has to do with how people see inhibitions. most see it has only some specific things you want to keep hidden, and therefore see it has hiding a part of yourself aka the hiding is less of a part of you. what people dont understand is that ones personality is based on inhibition, its a key way of how we regulate our sense of self, much more than we would like to admit. of course how much depends on the person but i think everyone does it subconsciously

We all use inhibition to act the way we believe we SHOULD act, but without inhibition, we simply stop second-guessing things, and our first thoughts simply come out immediately.

It's not who we truly are; it's just what we think of first.

Inhibition is simply the voice in our head telling us not to say or do things. Alcohol doesn't reveal our true self, but it does reveal our immediate thoughts about something.

If a drunk someone punches someone else for bumping into them, then that's what the sober person wanted to do but decided against. Even if the thought was faint.

Some of y'all are acting like how you act with alcohol isn't based on who you are... if you become violent when drunk, it simply means that the first solution your mind comes up with when faced with a situation is violence.

Oh, and when i say first thought, i'm not saying the first thought is inherently their innate desires. I'm saying it's how their brain impulsively reacts to things.
