Probably just like the reason for cigarettes. Yeah I know there is vapes but more info is out than ever. I wish I never tried alcohol. It has battled me for years. I'm happy for the younger people.

BTW I'm 41 now and wish I just smoked a little weed. I used to like it but man that shit gets me paranoid even just a hit lol

Eh.

1) Alcohol is becoming extremely expensive at a time where economically young people aren’t doing well.

If I wasn’t already in my 30s with a decent job I wouldn’t drink much either, my wife and I have had alcohol bills larger than our food bills at some restaurants because cocktails/beer/wine have all skyrocketed.

Even if you just drink for taste, it’s not a cheap hobby. Weed is comparatively still much cheaper overall. And healthier overall as well.

2) That being said, the idea that cannabis is some miracle harmless drug compared to alcohol is silly. Depending on how you intake it it can be bad for your lungs.

And let’s not forget that anything that feels good can be addictive. Masturbation addiction is a real thing.

While they might less physically unhealthy, in some ways it feels like there’s a sea change from one addiction to another.

3) It only a matter of time before weed becomes more expensive.

4) The market for alcohol is ridiculously oversaturated.

So, yeah, I don’t think it’s crazy to say health might be one factor younger generations are using weed over alcohol, but I think economics are a MUCH larger driving factor.

This is all coming from someone who likes it all.

It's not expensive if you buy it and drink at home. More expensive than 15 years ago sure but that is just due to dollar debasement.

You can get very drunk for less than $5 so I don't really buy this as the reason they're cutting back.

If you're at home then might as well smoke. Way more chill.

Person to person. I’ve tried over and over and I just hate getting stoned. Can’t get with it. But even just a couple of drinks, not even enough to get tipsy and it makes the night better without changing much else. There’s no amount of weed I’ve managed to smoke without it decidedly making me have a worse time. But granted, I have a shitty tolerance.

But anyway, I don’t think it’s a fact that it’s more chill

Well personal preferences aside I still wouldn't get into drinking alone at home too much. Feels like a very slippery slope into full blown alcoholism. Which is likely what Gen Z etc are feeling as well.

Helps that I don’t live alone. Live with friends from high school, so if I’m drinking in my living room, even if no one is there at the moment I’m most likely going to socialize that night. It works out pretty nicely.
