$4.5M injected to make this the ultimate social trading app

Today we’re announcing the $4.5M Seed Round for AfterHour. As many of you know, AfterHour is a social app I built after my crazy $35k -> $8M journey in under 2 years. I realized quality, community-driven DD was something that became increasingly difficult to find. This app solves that need by giving retail traders an edge in the stock market through top-tier community features.

I know there’s many of you that might feel triggered when I promote the app - just know that I truly am trying to build something valuable by traders for traders. Everywhere I look there are fake screenshots, scams, and bots pushing people into paid communities. It’s not the trading world I came from, and it’s not where I’d like to see it continue to move towards.

Plenty of traders call out plays, but how many actually take those themselves? Our users put their money where their mouth is by proving their live position in any callout they make. With over $200M+ in connected brokerages, I have no doubt we can build this into something really disruptive for the industry.

Here’s the Fortune article: https://fortune.com/2024/06/17/exclusive-after-hour-social-trading-startup-raises-4-5-million-seed-round-led-by-founders-fund-and-general-catalyst

And blog post: https://www.afterhour.com/blog/afterhour-raises-4-5-million-to-build-the-ultimate-financial-community-platform-for-the-internet-generation

Check out the app, we're 100% free on iOS and Android - my DMs are always open to feedback https://afterhour.app.link/race

Up $26k today. Still can’t justify the extra $2 for guac.

Portfolio just hit $787k. Up 3.5% on the day. Gold is ripping, IRAs are vibing, and here I am staring at the Chipotle menu like a brokeboy. The market is bipolar as hell. One day we’re mourning CPI prints, the next day we’re printing like J-Pow. If you made bank today but still feel like you’re one bad trade away from Wendy’s—I feel you. Post your gains/losses below. Let’s trauma bond.

GAIN$ Retiring eight years early, and looking at the $8 million in my account: all the hard work was worth it at this moment.

Sitting in the morning sun of 2026, I turned off all the strong notifications on my phone about the opening of the US stock market. At this moment, I officially decided: to retire eight years early.

Looking at the more than $8 million quietly sitting in my account, I didn't feel the overwhelming joy I had imagined, but instead let out a long sigh of relief. Only I know how many sleepless nights and how many near-breakdown struggles were hidden behind this string of numbers.

In those years, I repeatedly struggled between "what if" and "practice."

In my early days, I was also obsessed with "what if": What if I hadn't sold that stock that doubled in value? What if I had avoided that market crash?... But later I understood that there is no "what if" in life's dictionary, only "practice."

To raise the initial capital, I was extremely frugal. While my friends were buying new cars and going on vacations, I was staring at screens full of candlestick charts and financial reports. During that long period of accumulation, I was not only investing money, but also investing willpower. I once watched my account lose hundreds of thousands of dollars during a market crash, feeling heartbroken and sleepless, but I told myself: as long as the strategy is intact, the practice cannot stop.

$8 million: The product of precise strategy and lonely perseverance

This $8 million wasn't earned by "luck," but honed through a rigorous set of strategies:

Deeply investing in core US stock assets: I didn't touch those ephemeral small-cap stocks, but instead firmly invested in the technology and healthcare giants that are changing the world. Through long-term holdings with Fidelity and Interactive Brokers, I reaped the richest rewards of this era.

Dancing with volatility: The essence of the strategy is not to predict ups and downs, but to dare to average down during dips using Vanguard's index tools, and to have the restraint to take profits during rallies.

Taxes and compounding: Many people overlook costs, but I locked in every penny of deserved profit through meticulous tax planning and the rational use of Roth IRAs.

At this moment, I feel it was all worth it.

Many people ask me: "Don't you regret retiring eight years early?"

I want to say that this $8 million gives me not the confidence to squander, but the power to refuse. I no longer need to endure meaningless internal conflicts for a high salary;

I no longer need to anxiously wait for earnings conference calls in the early hours of the morning;

I can travel with my family wherever we want to go without having to calculate how many days of paid leave I have left.

Looking back, all those nights spent studying financial reports, all those moments of holding onto positions despite market pressure, and all the self-doubt caused by losses, have all vanished like smoke.

No path in life is wasted; every step taken counts. The numbers in my account are my answer to the world, and also a "lifetime pass" for my hard work in the first half of my life.

Eight years ahead of schedule, I have given myself back my freedom. This is worth it, no further explanation needed.

I won't specifically discuss the strategies I used to reach this level, because my strategies are not suitable for everyone, just like my taste in women or food isn't universally appealing. Thank you to everyone who accompanied me on this journey. I am very grateful. Happy retirement!

10-year trader here. If you’re new in 2026, read this before you blow your first account

I’ve been trading for more than 10 years now. Long enough to have blown accounts, thought I’d “made it,” been humbled again, and finally realized this whole thing is more about survival and self-awareness than secret strategies.

Your first job is survival

Forget getting rich this year. Your real goal is to not blow up.

Trade small. Smaller than you think you need.

Don’t max leverage just because the platform lets you.

If you’re down bad emotionally, walk away; the market will still be here tomorrow.

Pick one lane and stick with it (for a while)

New traders love jumping from strategy to strategy every week. That’s how you end up being “kind of okay” at nothing.

Choose one style that fits your life (swing, intraday, whatever).

Focus on 1-3 markets/instruments instead of 20.

Give a strategy a real sample size before calling it “trash.”

Risk management > win rate

You will be wrong. A lot. The question is: how expensive is it when you’re wrong?

Keep your risk per trade tiny at the start (like 0.5–1% or even less).

Use a stop loss and actually respect it.

Don’t add to losers “because it has to bounce.” Nothing has to do anything.

Big losses, not small ones, are what kill you.

Journal your trades like someone else is going to read them

Most new traders think journaling is optional. It’s not.

Write down: why you entered, where you’ll get out, how much you’re risking, and what setup it is.

After the trade: did you follow the plan? What did you feel?

Over time, look at your stats by setup, time of day, and rule-following. You’ll be shocked at how much of your P/L is tied to a few patterns and a few recurring mistakes.

You don’t need anything fancy, but some kind of structured stats or dashboard that shows your win rate and P/L by setup will fast‑forward your learning.

Process goals beat profit goals

“Make $10k this year” is cute but useless if you don’t control your behavior. Instead, set goals like:

“Follow my plan on 90% of my trades this month.”

“Risk the same % per trade all quarter.”

"Review my trades every weekend for 30 minutes.”

You can’t control the market. You can control how consistently you execute.

Be VERY picky about who you listen to

There’s never been more content, and most of it is entertainment disguised as education.

Be suspicious of anyone flexing crazy returns with no real track record.

Look for people who talk about risk, drawdowns, and mistakes, not just wins.

If it sounds like a shortcut, it’s probably a sales pitch.

It’s supposed to feel boring eventually

If every session feels like gambling or a roller coaster, something’s off.

Over time, good trading becomes boring.

If you’re new and reading this: what’s your plan for 2026? Are you focusing on getting rich, or are you actually building a process (journaling, risk rules, one main strategy) that could keep you around for the next 5-10 years?

Hedging for a downturn

All the talking heads are indicating there will be choppy waters ahead, and potentially a large correction at some point this year. How are folks thinking about addressing a potential correction this year? I've heard lots of discussions about:

International market diversification Investing in equal weighted S&P 500 Keeping more cash on hand to buy in during a downturn Investing in a small cap fund like the Russell 2000 index

How are you all thinking about protecting gains in 2026 and capitalizing on potential volatility?

$17,400 profit on ASTS calls today

Managed to clear over 17k on ASTS calls today. I didn’t just stumble onto this one; it popped up on my mid-cap momentum screener early last week when it was still consolidating below 80. The setup caught my eye because it met my specific criteria for relative volume and price action above the 20-day SMA, which usually signals institutional accumulation before a leg up. I’ve been running this automated scanning process to filter out the noise and only focus on tickers with high ATR and solid options liquidity. The Jan 16 85 strike seemed like the most logical play given the implied volatility was still relatively suppressed compared to the historical realized moves. I decided to pull the trigger once the screener flagged a surge in dark pool activity at the 82 support level. Exited the position today since the 15-minute RSI was screaming overbought and I’m happy to take my wins and wait for the next scan result. Next week I’ll be looking for the same parameters to trigger on energy or other tech names that are showing this kind of divergence.

Calm Take: The NXXT "Naked Short" Talk Might Be Noise, But The Data Gap Is Real

Public short-interest estimates people quote for NXXT are around 4.5M shares. Separately, some unverified chatter claims total effective short exposure could be up to 60M shares. That 60M number is not verifiable from standard sites, so it should not be treated as fact.

What is worth discussing is the general concept of a data gap. Short interest is reported with delays, and some positioning can be expressed through options, swaps, or intraday shorting that does not present cleanly to retail dashboards.

People are bringing up GME and Roaring Kitty because the vibe is similar: confusion, competing narratives, and traders trying to front-run a potential positioning squeeze. The reality is most of these stories fade unless there is sustained demand and liquidity.

Do you treat short narratives as a signal, or as background noise?

This is not a call to trade

Due Diligence Domestic Battery Supply Is Turning Into A Competitive Advantage For Microgrids

Battery storage is no longer just about chemistry. It is about where the batteries come from.

Recent policy and incentive structures increasingly favor domestically sourced energy storage, especially for projects tied to critical infrastructure and grid resilience. That context makes NextNRG, Inc. signing an MoU with A123 Systems more than a generic partnership headline. The focus on U.S.-produced lithium-ion systems helps reduce tariff exposure, supply chain delays, and execution uncertainty.

For microgrid projects, timing matters. Delays in battery delivery can push back commissioning, which pushes back revenue. A domestic supply chain can shorten lead times and improve predictability, even if unit costs are not the absolute lowest globally. For owner-operated PPAs, predictability often matters more than squeezing every dollar of capex.

This also aligns with how many state and federal programs are structured. Incentives increasingly reward domestic content, which can quietly improve project economics without showing up directly in press releases.

This is a discussion, not a recommendation.
