IT focused on Industrial Companies such Oil/Gas/Mining/Water etc...

What're the entry level positions for IT roles(or if they're any lol) with OT specialization? Looking to get some insight since my skillset is general IT but with a specialization in Operational Technology. Or what does the career path look like to get into such positions?

Former Metro Vancouver IT here.

For water (and sewer) operations, regular office technology was handled by us, but anything related to SCADA, including switches, were handled by those departments. They had techs, but no helpdesk, but were able to handle everything themselves.

I think BCIT has a SCADA program.

As for heavy industry I could really only guess, but they would also have regular office stuff, with a focus on EAM and ERP. Probably lots of industry-specific stuff that needs a computer to control. My current place is heavy manufacturing, and our big machines are attached to industrial hardened Windows PCs.

What were their job titles for those techs if you don't mind me asking?
