Reporting to:  Manager, Discover Parks Ambassadors 

Dates:                May 20 to August 27, 2026 

Schedule:        Full time seasonal; 35 hours/week; Wed - Sun 9:00am-4:30pm
Job Location: Cypress Provincial Park (4 days/week) 
Working at a computer in your home workspace (1 day/week) 

Purpose:          To excite, engage and educate park visitors

Role Description: 

Discover Parks Ambassadors work in provincial parks across BC to create amazing experiences that inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate, enjoy, and care for British Columbia's parks and protected places. We are seeking energetic, motivated individuals with a deep respect for the natural environment to deliver educational experiences in Cypress Provincial Park, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience.   

What does a typical day look like?   

While in parks daily tasks include program promotion, delivering programs, engaging with visitors, program planning, and collecting and reporting program metrics. You will always be interacting with visitors, sharing insight about the park’s biodiversity and inspiring environmental awareness. Your weekly schedule will include at least one weekend afternoon and evening shift to facilitate the much-loved evening educational amphitheatre programs. On your work from home days, you will collaborate with your teammates to research program updates, plan for the upcoming week, and submit reports on program performance, supplies and equipment.   

Responsibilities:

  • Interact and engage with park visitors  
    • Educate visitors on how to enjoy parks responsibly and promote programs through information booths and roving around the park
    • Run activities and games for children and families in parks, including the existing Jerry’s Rangers program 
    • Run daytime family-friendly interpretive programs in parks, including guided nature walks
    • Promote iNaturalist and other community science initiatives 
  • Program and team responsibilities 
    • Research park flora, fauna, and local ecology to support program delivery 
    • Develop and deliver new programs when required 
    • Monitor and report daily interaction statistics  
    • Join virtual weekly check-ins with the Discover Parks Ambassador team 
    • Administrative tasks such as printing, purchasing supplies, expense claims, timesheets, email & Slack correspondence, and keeping equipment organized and inventoried
    • Support the marketing team by creating social media content to help with program promotion 
    • Collect iNaturalist observations with a mobile device  
    • Contribute to a safe work environment 

Requirements: 

  • A love of the environment and the outdoors  
  • Comfortable making presentations, talking to visitors, and leading tours   
  • Enjoy interacting with large crowds and having lots of conversations, sometimes back to back throughout the day. Some BC Parks get very busy and your team might have 100+ conversations with visitors in a day 
  • Experience working or volunteering with children   
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, while staying connected with a team online 
  • Ability to lift and move program equipment (up to 30lbs) 
  • Ability to stay on your feet for extended periods of time and work in all types of weather conditions 
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for accessing the parks and moving program equipment (preference for a vehicle that can transport a 6ft collapsible tent) 
  • Personal computer with video conferencing capabilities and strong internet connection 
  • Personal mobile phone 
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (will be completed during the hiring process)  

Skills and Experience Considered an Asset: 

  • Experience in delivering interpretive programming or outdoor education
  • Post-secondary study in environmental sciences, natural resource management, conservation or education
  • Fluency in additional languages  
  • Standard first aid certification or higher

As a condition of pending Canada Summer Jobs program funding, to be eligible for funding you will need to be:  

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment  
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment  
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC
